(Concept art: Dryas Elk)
"Speaking of Northerners, while I'm not allowed to give away any details yet, I can let it slip that the design team has been working on the different Tribes of Mann (previously called bloodlines). Each Tribe represents a group of Mann that has gathered in a single biome or region and through a process of evolution and adaptation, has acclimated in the best way possible to their surroundings.
While there's nothing official yet, the work we've been doing on the Tribes this past week is pretty exciting. Once we've nailed down the design of the current Tribe we're working on more completely and have got some concept art to share with you, we'll let you in on the first publicly announced Tribe in Chronicles of Elyria."
In essence, this means that when you pick when you want to start, you're given characteristics specific to that region. I really like this idea, cause it adds quite a bit of realism. A guy born in a desert community, is probably going to be a bit darker than someone born in the far north.

"Over the last several weeks our environment artist, Raevantiel, has been working on the playable areas of the Prologue. The Prologue, which currently has a playable region of roughly 8 km x 12 km, includes forests, plains, a river, lakes, and mountains. Scattered throughout are small hamlets, animal dens, a few forgotten ruins, and of course, the village of Silver Run and the town of New Haven.
While the southern regions of Titan's Steppe borders an actual Steppe, the majority of Titan's Steppe lies in the Taiga/Boreal Forest biome, with Alpine Tundra and Tundra along the northern region.
Below are some Work-In-Progress screenshots of some of the areas of Titan's Steppe that have never been seen before. We hope you enjoy!"
On the first Tribe of Mann:
"As with last week, I'm unable to reveal much of what we've been working on lately, however, I can tell you we continue to work on defining more details of the different Tribes of Mann. While I can't say much now, I can say that the first one we've been working on we call the Joru Tribe, pronounced Yor-oo. Members of the tribe are referred to as Joran (Yor-uhn).
If you sense a bit of a Nordic flare to the name, you're not wrong. As the design currently stands, the Joru are a northern tribe, accustomed to the harsh winters of the Tundra and Taiga.
One final note, someone in IRC earlier asked where we draw our inspiration for the Tribes of Mann. We responded with a combination of things including:
The adaptations of animals/creatures within a biome
Real-world people and cultures for a biome
Look for those in equal measure within most of the Tribes"
(Concept of the new Otter Bear)
The Otter Bear, taking after otters, can be found in most biomes given a river or body of water. The only biomes they wouldn't be seen in are the extremes such as the Tundra, Taiga, and deserts. They don't migrate, but they travel up and down rivers.
Like most bears they're omnivorous, but prefer meat if available. They'll wait for animals to go for a drink of water and then pounce when they least expect it. Then they'll proceed to eat while floating on their backs, avoiding nuisances such as scavenger animals. That said, if necessary, they'll travel on to land in order to find a food source.
They will most often either be alone or roaming in groups of 3-5. Generally docile towards humans, they have playful attitudes with one another and are tamable. If provoked, however, such as threatening their young or explicitly attacking them, they are relentless and are a considerable threat thanks to their agility in both water and on land

"On December 12th we did a live Q&A on Twitch about the Biomes of Chronicles of Elyria. There were a lot of really excellent questions posed by the community in this reddit thread. For those of you that missed it, or just like to hear the sound of our voices, you can watch the recording with chat feed on Twitch.tv for a limited time, or on our YouTube channel forever.
I'm sure someone has already put this on a wiki page somewhere, but the list of Biomes that Souzou read during the Q&A is:
Deciduous Temperate Forest
Evergreen Temperate Forest
Grass and Shrub Savannah
Lower Montane Forest
Rocky Mountain Temperate Steppe
Tree and Shrub Savannah
Additional biomes that are totally unique to the world of Elyria may be added, so don't take this as an immutable list, okay?"
"In a previous update, I showed some of the concept sketches for some hairstyles we were going to be adding. We've modeled a couple and I'm certain you will enjoy seeing the finished product. Each hairstyle can take a character artist anywhere from 2-6 days depending on complexity. We'd like to include a variety of hairstyles for people to customize their characters with in game, so our character artists will be sick of hair at some point. These ones were done by Van"
Now, I agree, these hairstyles look pretty bad, but they're just the beginning, I expect many better looking ones to come out.
Anyway, that's just a broad overview of what's been happening, read up more on the Chronicles of Elyria Website: chroniclesofelyria.com/
