Funny... I always thought that woman is something that costs a guy more money than anything else.

Ehh. For the most part, the wage gap for genders is due to the actual jobs men and women are doing. There are a lot less women in high risk and physically demanding jobs, which tend to pay more.
User avatar #12 to #7 - lesrin ONLINE (09/23/2013) [-]
im so ******* glad someone finally pointed this out, its the same reason why on average women live 10 years longer, its not often you hear a women working as a coal miner or in a logging camp (2 of the highest mortality rate jobs)
User avatar #13 to #12 - arabiddrummer **User deleted account** (09/23/2013) [-]
Any time there's a post like this, there's generally a ********* that follows arguing the "wage gap" issue, and the majority usually falls in agreement with this. I figured I'd preemptively strike and (hopefully) cut down on it.
#18 to #13 - anon (09/23/2013) [-]
Um while that may be true in some cases, most of the wage gap issues are created when men and women doing the same job in an office, lets say, get paid completely different salaries...
User avatar #28 to #18 - nogphille (09/23/2013) [-]
that's true, and in those cases, men even tend to earn less than women.
#27 to #18 - Aejax (09/23/2013) [-]
That's because men statistically work longer hours (despite working the same job as their female counterparts), are more likely to ask for a promotion, and are more likely to ask for a raise. Women need to step the **** up
User avatar #17 to #7 - helenwheels (09/23/2013) [-]
Except physically demanding jobs for the most part pay like **** .

One of the best paid jobs in Australia (not including doctors and things, be realistic) is working in the mines because it;s a risky job.
User avatar #41 to #7 - metalmind (09/23/2013) [-]
Plus on average women have less job experience, since they often take a leave to raise children, which means that they don't progress in their job in that time.
Also, many employers see that as a risk they don't want to take.
And their work differs, even if it's the same job.
And you have to factor in 3 sick days per month, which accounts for 10% work time loss.
But they should get the same pay for the same work, just like men should not be treated worse than women, which they are outside of places like the American south, where transvaginal ultrasounds are mandatory before abortions, or where in some places spousal abuse of the wife is legal.
But we need harder punishments for people who accuse others of rape, or any pther crime (at least the maximum punishment the person that was wrongly accused).

Someone actually did some calculations abou the average wage gap, and then the average cost of dates, etc justifying the fact that men er paid more.

Since the costs of an average man to go dating, movies, dinner etc with a woman, pretty much adds up to the wage gap. I can't remember the study, but it was pretty accurate.
#69 to #37 - anon (09/23/2013) [-]
In other words it evens out since men are usually the ones that pay the most in the family.
#48 to #7 - anon (09/23/2013) [-]
There are other studys that say that woman get less paid in jobs where woman and men are doing the same job, same hours.

Does anyone have that story about that woman who started a production agency or something and hired only women and they were complete bitches who put her out of business? I would like to read that again.
User avatar #23 to #14 - meestaa (09/23/2013) [-]
A pleasant comic relief story...

BUT, what if there was a TV company only hiring men? We'd be reading a whole other news story, one about sexism, misogyny, and a bunch of other words referring to the evil tyranny of men who blatantly still control the world
User avatar #26 to #23 - psydoc (09/23/2013) [-]
That's what I kept thinking while I read it. I thought this was the funniest part though:

"Though I will not absolve myself of all guilt, I believe the business was ruined by the destructive jealousy and in-fighting of an all female staff."
(She blames herself and her female staff for the failure)

And while I stand by my initial reason for excluding male employees - because they have an easy ride in TV - if I were to do it again, I'd definitely employ men. In fact, I'd probably employ only men.
(She now considers men as superior employees, yet still maintains that things are too easy for men. She's feels there should be some sort of unnatural way to level the playing-field for women, and she would still consider that just.)
#29 to #26 - meestaa (09/23/2013) [-]
She's a perfect example of somebody who thinks too much, about the wrong things.

Regardless, here's a funny picture to make everybody's days better
User avatar #34 to #26 - deadrifler (09/23/2013) [-]
Problem with her is, she doesn't recognize the biggest issue of why her company failed. **** management. you can't have a GM who doesn't crack down, or a boss who doesn't play bad cop. If you have behavioral issues in staffing, replacements can be filled easy. In the TV industry there are people who would kill to get those job opportunities. Blaming it all on her women staffing is a scapegoat. Sure some of the reasons behind the failure were an all women staff, but also an owner who didn't know when to put her foot down, hiring incompetent individuals who can't differentiate work from a social mixer and just incompetence on budgeting.(High salaries for most the staff. Boo hoo hoo, women are underpaid so I am gonna overpay my entire staff to compensate.)
User avatar #105 to #34 - psydoc (09/23/2013) [-]
I think she partially recognizes it, but not fully. Also, my philosophy on employees is that if you can't train them to do their job without constant supervision, then you should fire them. It's a huge waste of time for me to supervise someone doing something I could probably do quicker and better myself. There's no reason to pay for that.
User avatar #113 to #105 - deadrifler (09/25/2013) [-]
Exactly. Bothering to get staffing and delegation of duty is pointless if what free time extra staffing clears up is overtaken by having to constantly babysit who ever is supposed to do it.

No company in pretty much any country advertises a job then lowers it based on your gender, you get less because you work less, simple as that.

Women only business.
Quick someone link the picture with the woman who gave up on her business because an all female staff resulted in horrible bitchiness etc.
User avatar #21 - herpaderderp (09/23/2013) [-]
OK, I've said this before, and I'm going to say this again. Women do not get paid less for doing the same job. Any company that tried to pay anyone differently due to gender or race would immediately find themselves in many massive lawsuits. The reason women get paid less as an average is because they work lower paying jobs.

Feminists use the medical field as an example, arguing that men get paid way more than women in hospitals. This is because there are different jobs within the hospital. Salary is based on the job they do. You can't expect a nurse to get paid the same as a doctor.

More to the topic of this post, not only would you have to pay women the same, but due to things like maternity leave, you would actually have to pay more. Ergo, you would lose money if you tried undercutting competitors.

That's not how it works, only an idiot would make it that obvious.
It's in the job titles, same job, different titles, different pay cheques.

I have studied this, it does happen.
User avatar #35 to #21 - thirdjess (09/23/2013) [-]
Also a lot of women get optional benefits the men would not, which gets taken out of their pay. So if a man and a woman both get paid 500k a year ( ******* hell, I wish), and the woman elects to receive dental, health and salary care, she ends up getting paid 487k while the man elects none of these and gets the full 500k.

I can see it now,
Scene 1:Some woman would come into work at least some of them would be worrying the same outfit fight breaks out, those woman don't talk to each other ever again.

Scene2: Gossip, Some woman would be Gossiping about each other who slept with who calling each other whores and sluts behind each other back, someone calls it out and another fight breaks out.

Scene3:All the Woman complain no work gets done, company fails the end.

I'm pretty sure there could be so many scenes just these are the ones i can see happening like instant.

Women do start their own businesses. When they do, they get paid much less than men.

User avatar #103 to #66 - psydoc (09/23/2013) [-]
Self employed women tend to make significantly less.
User avatar #104 to #103 - cdsams (09/23/2013) [-]

User avatar #107 to #104 - psydoc (09/23/2013) [-]
I'm not sure what you're asking, and I don't know why self employed women make significantly less than self employed men, but I'm sure it's for a variety of reasons.

In Canada:
"Self-employed women earn approximately $0.60 for every dollar earned by self-employed men."
User avatar #108 to #107 - cdsams (09/23/2013) [-]
I don't know how you Canadians work your businesses, but in America, self employers can take as much cash as they want for themselves from their own business.
User avatar #109 to #108 - psydoc (09/24/2013) [-]
I'm not Canadian - you however tend to make assumptions thus lead yourself to misunderstanding. Also, you can't take cash you don't have.
User avatar #110 to #109 - cdsams (09/24/2013) [-]
My assumption came from the fact that you had used a Canadian statistic. Also, how is the revenue that your own company pulled in not your cash? fyi, taking out a loan, while having interest and an obligatory payback method, is taking cash you don't have.
User avatar #111 to #110 - psydoc (09/24/2013) [-]
First revenue does not equal cash. Cash is an asset, revenue is, well, a revenue.
Revenue - expenses = income
income + retained earnings (beg) = retained earnings (end)
retained earnings + capital = owners' equity
owners' equity - liabilities = assets
assets - (all non-cash assets) = cash

Second, nobody said self employed women have the same revenues or profits as men.
FYI, If you take out a loan for cash, you then have that cash. That's a very temporary solution for a cash flow problem though.
#112 to #111 - cdsams (09/24/2013) [-]
