If you watch the Kinect demonstration video you'll see that the Kinect recognizes excess noise from the likes of the TV and the Xbox and ignores it when listening for commands from you.

User avatar #31 to #1 - RiflemanFunny ONLINE (06/15/2013) [-]
I don't think Microsoft put the Kinect to use during that demonstration. It was a planned demonstration.
User avatar #45 to #1 - buriedstpatrick (06/16/2013) [-]
Is that the new Kinect only? Because during the XBOX One reveal, people who streamed the event with Kinect on their XBOX 360 had a whole bunch of trouble when the guy on stage said some of the commands.
User avatar #24 to #1 - thewaronbeingcool (06/15/2013) [-]
Actually when people were watching the xbone reveal on their Kinect enabled 360s, their Kinect was picking up the voice commands from the demonstration.
User avatar #36 to #24 - aldheim (06/15/2013) [-]
Yeah, the xbox one has the capability.
Watching the reveal does not upgrade your hardware.
User avatar #238 to #24 - joehue (06/16/2013) [-]
Although it was a complete waste of money, I can vouch that the Kinect even on the 360 has some sort of voice recognition. I leave my Kinect right next to my TV speakers and whether I'm playing a game or watching something, it has only picked up the voices in my room if I want to do something with it. At least, so far it hasn't picked up anything from my TV. Still a waste of cash though, only time I ever used the damn thing was when buds came over and we'd laugh at each other play dance central.
#281 to #1 - anon (06/16/2013) [-]
You make a good point.

But people will ignore it because they already have their minds set that the Xbox One is horrible and the PS4 dominates.

User avatar #3 to #2 - MasterManiac (06/15/2013) [-]

I read an article about how a bunch of ppl who were watching an Xbox presentation on their XBox 360's with kinect on were sent out of the presentation and back to the home screen when the speaker of the presentation said "Xbox-Home." I know that applies to the current model and not the one they will be packaging with the XB1, but it shows the possibility.

The new kinect has voice recognision so yes.
User avatar #9 to #6 - shaneac (06/15/2013) [-]
But how does it tell that the guy saying "xbox off" is a voice on tv, instead of a voice in the room? If the sound is good enough, there shouldn't be too huge of a difference
User avatar #15 to #9 - comanderspy (06/15/2013) [-]
yeah, what if you are playing a stealth game, or gta... sometimes when playing gta online it gets very quiet. or you join a chatroom with friends and one of the dicks just goes and says "Xbone off"! huh! huh!
User avatar #28 to #9 - mads (06/15/2013) [-]
No as in it only recognises your voice. So it won't pay attention to any other voice
User avatar #39 to #28 - shaneac (06/15/2013) [-]
So, your friends/parents wouldn't be able to use the xbox, without going through some setup that'd probably involve them talking for 10 minutes?
User avatar #64 to #39 - mads (06/16/2013) [-]
Or just turn the kinect off. Because you can.
User avatar #65 to #64 - shaneac (06/16/2013) [-]
My point is, only one person can use the xbox's voice commands?
User avatar #89 to #65 - mads (06/16/2013) [-]
No. I think you can calebrate it to multiple people.
User avatar #92 to #89 - shaneac (06/16/2013) [-]
Ok. But still, you either have to manually register each voice, which would take a while to make sure their voice is recognized (unlikely) or have it recognize all voices, and risk having it respond to sounds from the speakers (more likely, since it's what kinects already do)
User avatar #104 to #92 - mads (06/16/2013) [-]
Or not use it and turn the kinect off

#29 to #9 - anon (06/15/2013) [-]
I believe a way to implement this would be to compare the sound the mic is recording (i.e. what swaggeryolo is saying) and compare it to what the speakers are outputing. If there is a large similarity and a small time difference then it should ignore it (there are ways to do this with artificial neural networks that work quite well) .

I really don't like anonymous, but they'd gain a lot of respect with me if they took down Xbox Live on launch week. Why? Because none of consoles will function. It would cause massive amounts of bad press, people would stop buying the product and Microsoft would have no choice but to remove the always online function to get people to buy them again.

Sony still takes **** for the PS Network outage. Picture that, except the entire console doesn't work. If that happened on launch week the fallout would be biblical. That's what it's going to take to get Microsoft to remove the feature.
User avatar #190 to #154 - jorah (06/16/2013) [-]
Except anonymous isn't as powerful as you think they are, and couldn't take down xbox if they tried.
Not to mention they are jumping from 15,000 online servers to over 300,000.

also you're a ******* dickhead, you're basically saying you want everyone to be disappointed just because you don't like the xbox one, even though there isn't really much wrong with it.

User avatar #194 to #193 - jorah (06/16/2013) [-]
Why is the internet thing so bad?
It even has its benefits.
Did you know it automatically patches all your games discreetly so you don't have to download updates when you start them up?

And if your reasoning is "oh well there are kids in africa that won't get to play because they don't have internet" (or something along those lines) then don't bother, because they shouldn't take away a good security feature just to please less than 1%

modding consoles and pirating games is a bigger problem than you would realize for the 360 and ps3.
User avatar #201 to #194 - I Am Monkey (06/16/2013) [-]
There are no benefits to the player for always online. Anyone that can be online is. The feature is entirely self serving to Microsoft so they can fight piracy.

Microsoft ignorantly assumes (as do you apparently) everyone has a stable internet connection. Much of the country does not. During Sandy I lost internet for 3 weeks, I would have been **** out of luck with an Xbox one. This obviously isn't an every day occurrence, but it would have been a needless inconvenience Microsoft would be subjecting their customer to.

Even if you are not directly effected by this, you should still be pissed off. This is Microsoft attempting to seize back control from your property. You're not renting the ******* thing from them. You're paying $500 to purchase it and they think they can dick with it to save them some money.
User avatar #204 to #201 - jorah (06/16/2013) [-]
Yes but it's not a big enough problem to by itself make the xbox one junk.
The DRM policies aren't as bad as everyone is making them out to be, especially how all the used-game fees are only optional.

Well if your internet goes out, your Xbox does in fact become junk. It's bricked.
The used game fees being option is a crock. Giving EA the "option" to remove used games is laughable.

They can't remove used games, the worst scenario is them adding a $10 fee to activate it, and it could even be $5.

And internet going out for usually never more than a week in bad cases isn't that bad compared to the 5+ year lifespan

People like Microsoft rely on people reasoning with "It isn't that bad".
They always inch the line of ******** forward. Only this time they pushed it a little too quickly and people realized.

No, they rely on people seeing a good product for what it is, a good product.
People just like to hate on things, and right now it's the Xbox one.

I read something earlier this week about ms possibly increasing the gap between the net check to something like a week.

Now if they never remove that feature at least changing that to once a month would be preferable and maybe adding the ability to not only do it manually but also give ms a notification that you won't be using the internet for some time.

>a good security feature

***** what?
User avatar #200 to #197 - jorah (06/16/2013) [-]
I already explained it at the end.
User avatar #203 to #200 - AnonsForSure (06/16/2013) [-]
Well, that's a security feature for their end, but I don't see why that'd benefit me.

Them losing millions and millions of dollars on pirated games made them take action, if not this then it could have been worse, so in a way it could have benefited you.
User avatar #206 to #205 - AnonsForSure (06/16/2013) [-]
No offense, but that's ******** , and you know it.
User avatar #207 to #206 - jorah (06/16/2013) [-]
Not really.
No company enjoys losing millions of dollars, them trying to stop it isn't really all that surprising.
User avatar #208 to #207 - AnonsForSure (06/16/2013) [-]
It's not surprising, but it still doesn't show me, why I benefit from the always-online DRM.
User avatar #209 to #208 - jorah (06/16/2013) [-]
You don't have to benefit, I never said you benefited, I just said it's not that big of a deal.

Oh yeah I forgot what a shame it would be if MS lost millions of dollars to piracy, because i forgot that they aren't a multi-billion dollar corporation that are desperate for some money.
#218 to #154 - anon (06/16/2013) [-]
except thats ******* stupid.
youre a prick
people are going to buy it because they want to use it and youre trying to **** with ****
its really not that big of a deal to check in every 24 hours. most people will be online all the time anyway
