User avatar #35 to #34 - stigman **User deleted account** (05/17/2013) [-]
no we finish high school at the age of 16 and then its time for college. So basically when an american finishes high school a person in the UK has finished college.

Most people have part time jobs while in highschool. and yes, highschool till 18

Pre school/pre-'k' 4-5 (optional)
Kindergarden age 5-6
1st-6th grade (grade school) till age 12
7th-8th grade (Jr. High) till age 14
9th-12th grade (high school) till age 18

There's the breakdown for ya!

Why so much?

Nursery is optional for ages around 5
Primary school (year 1-year 6) till age 12
High school (year 7-year 11) till age 16

That's all we have. Why don't you just have that?

because the US still goes by the tradition of summer vacation (or holiday, as you may call it) for about 3 months due to the fact we were once a farming nation and children used to work on the family farm during the summer months (the growing and harvest season) and it's stuck that way though it's no longer the way we live/make a living and the first couple of months of school are used as a "refresher" from the precious year. and our government is too stupid to do anything to fix it. they think stardardized tests are the way to go.

TL;DR: our system is dated and flawed because of the summer months/vacation/holiday and the government is retarded
