ejew many feminists does it take to screw in a light bulb:
eone to screw it in,
eerie to excoriate men for creating the need for illumination,
eerie to blame men for inventing such a faulty means of illumination,
eerie to suggest the whole "screwing" bit to be too "",
eerie to deconstruct the lightbulb itself as being phallic,
eerie to blame men for not changing the bulb,
eerie to blame men for trying to change the bulb instead of letting a woman do it,
eerie to blame men for creating a society that discourages women from changing light bulbs,
eerie to blame men for creating a society where women change too many light bulbs,
eerie to advocate that lightbulb changers should have wage parity with electricians,
eerie to alert the media that women are now "" men,
eerie to just sit there taking pictures for her blag for that men are
unnecessary.

That chick is ridiculous...Sure, in many video games the damsel in distress plotline is rampant, but the way she acts, she thinks that video games are aimed at making women look/feel weak and worthless.

Flipside, look at two of the most popular characters in video game history, Lara Croft and Samus Aran. How can she act like that when both those characters have countless game adaptions soley about them being totally badass and awesome?...Also, Mass Effect 3 included Femshep, a woman who is the only human spectre in history AND a leader in the biggest war in the universe?....woman are NOT victims of video game 'sexism'...she's just looking for ways to preach her ******** .

The issue with this woman is she makes up problems, ignoring real problems, and suggests all the wrong remedies for it. Like the people that think that the betchdel test is a legitimate measure of female presence in a movie.

The issue with sexism in pop culture isn't that women are sexualized, a damsel in distress, a reward, or a love interest. No. The issue is the fact that that's all that the media seems to want or know how to portray women as. There's a lot of reasons why this is. Yes, it does need to change, but pointing fingers and abusing the word "sexist" is only making the real issue even more hidden from actual feminists and people who care.

There's no winning with this woman. If a man saves a woman, then suddenly women are portrayed as helpless. If a woman saves a man, then suddenly women are portrayed as objects around simply to service men. And if a woman is strong, she's just masquerading as a man. If a woman isn't strong, she's a helpless object. If anything is in any way not politically correct than anyone associated with it is a villain and how dare you make it successful.

The issue is that there aren't enough women in the media making media. Most of everything you watch, play, or anything is done by a man- and men know men. Do you know how challenging it is for someone to write in the perspective of the opposite gender? It isn't as simple as the realization that women are people with dimension and emotions, trying to get into the head of the other gender is like trying to piss through the hole of a cheerio. This is why a lot of times, women are reduced to stereotypes and archetypes.

Nothing is going to magically alter art to portray women better. No Hollywood executive is going to stand up and say, "BY GOD WOMEN ARE PEOPLE TOO" and everything will change. No. We need women directors, women game designers, women writers. Not women complaining about the portrayal of women from people who don't know how to write for women.

Good night.

How many feminists does it take to change a light bulb?

It doesn't matter. Feminists can't change anything.
#128 to #8 - anon (04/19/2013) [-]
well that sucks a lot cuz feminism is about achieving gender equality (and believe it or not. little known fact. this includes goals that benefit men too for example getting rid of the belief that men have to be macho or else they're not """real men""". feminism isnt just the feminazi "GIRL POWER KILL ALL MEN" stereotype) so please dont say gender equality will never be achieved that is extremely negative

He didn't. Also, feminism is the believe that females are superior to males, it is the counterpoint to misogyny. Actually wanting gender equality should be striving for equal opportunity, not equal output, as that would be ridiculous and LITERALLY impossible. We are a sexually dimorphic species and as such there are fields in which women will never be as useful as men, and the opposite is also true, there are fields in which men will never be as useful as women. The day we learn to celebrate those differences instead of trying to crush them will be the day when true equality is achieved.
User avatar #267 to #259 - xafwodash (04/19/2013) [-]
I totally agree with the second part of what you say about men and women having different strengths but I just wanted to point out that feminism is not the belief that females are superior to males. The aim of feminism is to "define, establish, and defend equal political, economic, and social rights for women." (taken from wikipedia) In other words, it aims to get women the same opportunities as men but never says anything about wanting better rights than men. In fact, because it's about creating gender equality, there are lots of feminists (myself included) who also see improving men's rights as an integral part of the feminist movement with stuff like paternity leave and making the retirement age the same.

tldr: feminism isn't 'I hate men! Women are better! We should have all the rights! All men are rapists!" It's fighting for gender equality so that both men and women are treated fairly and aren't affected negatively by stereotyping.
(sorry I wrote so much)
User avatar #268 to #267 - teranin ONLINE (04/19/2013) [-]
On the surface, yes, but were that the case being a "feminist" would be pointless, instead you would be an "equal rights activist". "Feminist" implies a specific concern for that gender, which has already gained superior protection and advancement under the laws of most western societies, so if you continue to identify as a "feminist" when equal opportunity has already been achieved, you are showing a lack of satisfaction with said opportunity, instead being driven to equal output, which is a fallacy that twists an ideology that was once a good thing into a path to a gender biased autocracy (although it's clearly obvious that the vast majority of people who identify as feminist don't actually think that way, generally they probably think they are still victims of society thanks to the extremely effective feminist propaganda machine currently wrapped like a serpent around our society, or alternatively they simply think it is synonymous with equality which is again the position of someone who is simply not informed of the reality of the situation.)
User avatar #269 to #268 - xafwodash (04/19/2013) [-]
I really dislike the word 'feminism' and massively prefer "gender equality" but I just wanted to point out that technically feminism isn't the belief that women are superior.

It's true that in the US, Canada and most of Europe the gender equality situation is vastly improved but there are still a lot of ways in which it has a long way to go- in protecting men as much as in protecting women. Also, it's a little narrow minded to think that the western world's gender equality situation is good enough so we should just drop it now. I'm currently living in Japan which is generally considered a well developed country but women are expected to quit their job when they get married to dedicate themselves to looking after their husband whilst men are expected to be the earner.

I don't know what country you're from but having grown up in the UK, I really don't feel that there is an "extremely effective feminist propaganda machine currently wrapped like a serpent around our society" and actually think that there's a lot of problems that no one picks up on, or at least don't complain about. That could just be that we've grown up in different places though.
User avatar #276 to #259 - peteryt (04/19/2013) [-]
Feminism is absolutely not the belief that women are superior to men. There are most certainly a lot of people who define themselves as feminists who believe this, and I will not even for a moment deny that. Those people are walking **** , though.

From Wikipedia: "Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment."

And if you honestly think women have an equal standing in society, you are one of the following:

- In denial
- Angry at women
- A woman dealing with internalized sexism

I don't know if you have ever listened to most management types, but they are usually some of the more sexist people I have encountered. If I weren't a male privy to a lot of conversations, I probably wouldn't believe it, either. I am not a woman, you know. But I have worked in a wide range of industries, and I think I can recall literally only one entirely gender-neutral management team. I've worked in janitorial to media positions. It's the same.
User avatar #277 to #276 - teranin ONLINE (04/19/2013) [-]
I agree that equal opportunity has not been fully realized, however, the bar has traveled so far in some areas that it is no longer about equal opportunity. Look at the amount of false statistics presented in the media, look at all of the female-specific programs to provide them with cheap college and provide an onus onto employers to hire women through tax breaks, regardless of that woman's capabilities vis a vis the job in question. Look at the fact that almost 50% of domestic abuse is done by women, and yet this fact is commonly hidden in our society. Look at all the occurances of falsified rape claims in our society, trust me they are not even close to all discovered. Look at the fact that men are not allowed to sit near children on national airlines flights. There comes a point when equal rights are no longer the goal of an organization fighting for the rights of one group, and that point flew past us a decade ago.

I'm happy to see so many green thumbs for my comment, thanks for the support, FJ!
Special thanks to feraltoast and mrchubs.

But to respond to the Feminism argument...
Though I joke here, because A) It's goddamn funny and B) It's ******* relevant, I do support feminism and equality for all. As a college student, much of what I study (psychology, philosophy, and sociology) is focused on women's rights, racial equality, especially with regards to interselectionism. I don't feel as though this particular joke detracts too much from the feminist movement because it does speak to the lack of unity among many feminists, mostly due to the multitude of aspects of feminist theory, and I also feel that it is important that people learn and practice to laugh at themselves.
As a feminist/man supporting equal rights for all people regardless of race/gender/etc, I'm also poking fun at myself here.

ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Asians hide their mind reading abiliities by having completely expressionless faces to avoid accidently showing facial expressions when people think things they don't Ike, find funny, astonishing etc, and they segregate so their not nearly as susceptible to that happening. Asians also segregate and are very untalkative to avoid accidently saying things that are similar to what people are thinking and going to say.

Try thinking and visually picturing things that are as wild as you can when you are around Asians, and look for Asians who give people dirty/particular looks for what appears to be for no reason.

PLEASE SPREAD THE MESSAGE!!!!!! THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!!!!
