>be 16
>move to new town (dad's in the military)
>had been talking to this one girl prior to the move, really felt that I loved her
>three days after moving I found out she had slept with my best friend and his brother
>at the same ******* time
>get super depressed
>parents decide to get me a dog to cheer me up
>she's a mutt, got picked on by her siblings all the time, basically the runt of the litter
>identified with her, she was the one
>took her home, loved her, walked her, fed her, played with her, became inseparable
>fast forward three years
>taking dog for a walk, pass a house where people are moving in
>squirrel comes out of nowhere runs across street, right in front of us, to get to a tree
>a tree in the front yard of said house
>dog bolts, lose grip on leash because I wasn't expecting all of that to happen so fast
>dog is barking her head off at the base of the tree, someone comes out of the house to investigate
>really cute girl, my age, helps me get my dog back after calming her down
>start talking to her, ask her what she thinks of the neighborhood, she thinks it's okay
>point out my house, tell her if she ever wants a tour of the area, all she has to do is let me know
>become fast friends, eventually becomes something more, we start dating, can't be happier
>fast forward another eight years
>have moved into an apartment with gf, dog obviously comes with us
>dog is old as hell now, arthritis and other problems have made her existence painful
>can't bring myself to put her down

one day I decide I'm going to propose to my gf
>wait for gf to leave for work, I have the day off, she thinks I'm just going to watch the apartment all day
>tell my dog to wait for me, I'll be right back
>go to parent's place, get family ring to propose with
>come back, dog isn't greeting me like usual
>going through all of the rooms, getting frantic, can't find my dog
>suddenly hear whimper from under my bed
>look under it, it's my dog
>she's bleeding from the nose
>flip the bed over, don't care what I break
>grab my deck, pull her over to the wall where I slump down because I already know there's nothing I can do to help her
>she starts throwing up blood, it's going to happen soon
>just start petting her, tell her how much of a good girl she's been, that it's all going to be alright
>biggest ******* lie I've ever told
>start sobbing uncontrollably
>dog lifts her head up, licks tear off my face, then gives one last sigh before dying in my arms
>stay there for the rest of the day until my gf comes home, crying the entire time
R.I.P. Mocha. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. You led me to the greatest person in my life and stayed with me until you thought you were no longer needed. But you were wrong, Mocha...
I'll always need you...
