Okay so after drawing bunnibear's picture (can be seen below somewhere. Try drawing her, it is fun!! ) I got sincerely inspired to try and draw (and also FINALLY succeed) in drawing my first self portrait. And after what felt like forever (and getting lazy towards the end and I know I messed up on the upper lip, but I shall fix that....someday....but for now, I shall bathe in my happiness) I FINALLY frickin succeeded in my first self portrait. (I tried multiple times with the drawing tablet in the past but I just never could get the hang of it. but now that I have. I am truly happy. And I just want to thank bunnibear for helping to inspire me to fulfill my goal that I have for quite a while. I will post the comparison picture below.

Okay, with the lips, do not do outlines like that. That is not how lips are. I know it's is a B&W drawing, but still, it doesn't need those lines. You only need one line for the part, a small line underneath to define the lower lip, and a bit above to show the swoop in the center of the upper lip. I drew it out, with colour, it's really quick and crappy but you get the point. Also I accidentally made the lines to dull, but whatever.

Thank you for the advice! :) I know I shouldn't fully outline them, i usually don't, but I thought that since I was wearing dramatic make up (red lipstick but it probably looks pretty dull in this picture below) that I should fully outline it anyway since i never planned on coloring this picture, since it is a somewhat old picture of myself (I would bother coloring it if it was a current picture of myself). but thank you :).

No problem :) And yeah, i can see where you're coming from. It's just that outlining lips tends to (and no offense) make the piece seem childish. But yeah, It's an awesome piece!

Also, I was just wondering, what kind of tablet do you use? And how well does it work?

none taken, I understand completely where you are coming from! :D If you look at bunnibears picture (should be on the first page of /art/ i think) i didn't fully outline her lips and i was liike OMG THIS IS AWESOME but yeah lol. and thank you :)

I use a bamboo capture, but I also have another drawing tablet from 09 or 08 and thats the bamboo...uh i can't remember the name, but its a bigger sized tablet. but for this i used the bamboo capture. And I would say it works excellently for a small tablet. Before I wanted a big sized tablet but I am pretty comfortable with this tablet despite the small size. I still use my bigger sized bamboo tablet of course, but I really enjoy both. Basically, for beginners with digital (such as myself) I would highly recommend bamboo by wacom :)

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a bamboo connect. I already like to draw in PS, but I'm using the trackpad on my laptop and it sucks :/ It's just.. once I come upon a problem, it takes to much effort to keep trying over and over again, but I think it would be much easier to draw with a tablet. Here;s something I'm working on now, But I keep messing up the face and everything, so I'm waiting until I get a tablet to finish him. He's a request drawing someone wanted me to do, you may have seen the post a couple weeks ago asking for someone to draw 4 characters; I took the job. Luckily my birthday is in a week tomorrow, so I can get that tablet soon.

I don't really come to this thread much so I haven't seen it but its really good this drawing!! :D I like it! and i promise you, you will be happy to get a tablet when you do! :) Also, what program did you use to draw that out? because for your birthday maybe you can get this program called "manga studio debut"? it's the program I used to make my self portrait and also my anime related stuff as well :) plus it can help make great comics!! :D this is something I drew for my friend.

I just used Photoshop, and I have some interesting brushes on there that can make manga textures (in the pic), which is pretty neat. But yeah, seems like a pretty cool program, I might check it out sometime :) And thanks :3
