That's in Norway. I live here, and I can relate to that man... We also had some nice floodings, so riding your bike to school was more like sailing across a miniature ocean or something. Mix that with some ice and you have a perfect way to ruin everyone's day,
User avatar #51 to #2 - thalfak (12/30/2013) [-]
I think it was the same storm that also hit Denmark and caused massive floodings in the major inlet here.

Because I've watched the video... Walkin' in the Wind: People blown over in streets as Storm Ivar hits Norway
User avatar #48 to #38 - odonnell (12/30/2013) [-]
Norway gets the police out to help people when its windy?
How nice.

In Scotland we just get left to fend for ourselves. People getting hit with wheely bins and trampolines on their way to work, your lucky if the police even turn up to close off roads when trees fall down, they just send out the fire brigade or road workers.
User avatar #56 to #48 - learnthisline (12/30/2013) [-]
The police helped a few women out, mostly elderly ones. Isn't that literally their sole function: to help the people?

It's not a competition mate.
User avatar #57 to #56 - odonnell (12/30/2013) [-]
No, the polices job is to serve the law. Some laws are there to protect people (not help) other laws are there to make money. Eg: If someones a murderer, it would protect the people by imprisoning them. If someone litters, or downloads a pirated copy, it doesn't protect anyone, its just there to make some money via fines.

PS. I'm not saying all fines are only there to make money, parking fines etc are there to make roads safer by reducing the amount of people parking on busy streets etc.

I wasn't trying to compete, I was just admiring how nice the Norwegian public services seem compared to British ones. British ones just hit you with any piece of **** they can find, you're more likely to catch AIDs from a bus than reach your destination. I know Norway has a higher tax rate to fund the better services, but Britain could afford it easily with the same tax rate, considering its population is about 12 times bigger. They could also scrap the Nuclear sub they have zero intention of using and that'd free up a few billion pounds each year.
User avatar #58 to #57 - learnthisline (12/30/2013) [-]
I live in Manchester, and I've never experienced a dick head copper.

They may not be perfect, or anywhere near, but they're certainly some of the best in the world.

And the police are "public servants", their sole function in society is to protect the people, and the serve them.
- Police are not there to make money. Who the **** told you that? Seriously, that's one of the most disgusting assessments I've ever heard. How can you think that a policeman, someone we ALL employ via taxes, is there to make money off me?
Under our corrupt system, yes, they do make money off us. But that doesn't make it right. That's like saying, in the 1700s, "Oh, women should never have the right to vote, etc. because that's how the system is, and it should never change."

We could save a lot of money on taxes mate:
1. Get rid of MP's "expenses". What the **** do they get paid for if they're not going to use that money!?
2. Stop funding Israeli Apartheid.
3. We're missing billions from tax-evasion (mainly from Tory Party supporters)
- We're missing billions from Apple, Google, Amazon, etc. (So we need to boycott Apple & Amazon, which I do. It's pretty impossible to boycott Google as it's literally linked to most other search engines, barring Bing)
4. Abolish the Monarchy. I mean c'mon, how the **** did the Queen get a £33m pay rise this year, when we have people in fuel poverty and using food banks.
5. Tax the **** out of the super-rich. It's been proven that they can't, or rather won't, put their extra money back into the economy. They've got millions, if not billions, rotting in their vaults.
6. Abolish the privately owned central bank ("Bank of England") that prints money with debt already on it.

But back to Norway, yeah, it's good that they've got a policeforce that's willing to help it's people rather than oppress them. Let's be thankful we're not in America, Spain, Brazil, etc.
User avatar #59 to #58 - odonnell (12/30/2013) [-]
I never meant to say its the police officers that are cunts. I meant to say they do as they're told, like any other employee in general, and they're told to serve the law. I also never meant to say it give money to the police, the police don't make the laws, they only enforce them. Its Westminster that writes up the laws and then all the money from fines goes to them.

Thats just the tories for you, they're only in it for the money. I don't know how the **** they got in. Everyone I've talked to about it (Scottish and English) has said they were against the Tories. So there must be a fair sized group of people from N. Ireland and Wales thats sole purpose it to **** over everyone else.

The Monarchy's a tough topic, they bring in their fare share via tourism. With the birth of the kid while back it generated about £500million. But, what the **** are they going to do with £33million ) They already own a house in pretty much every country, they've already got their cars and private drivers. No-one needs £33million a year.

Again, private ownership is all down to Westminster, they just promoted the privatization of the royal mail.

Tl;dr. Its all the tories fault, maybe Scotland wouldn't be wanting to leave the UK if people in the rest of the UK voted sensibly, and didn't **** everyone over.
User avatar #60 to #59 - learnthisline (12/30/2013) [-]
The Tories only got in this time because the Lib Dems sold out.
That, and their constituencies are down South, and they're smaller sized, so they can fit more "voters" in, if you catch my drift.
It's hardly a democracy at all, and that's why I was so pissed off when the AV referendum failed, because that would have significantly helped the democratic process.

However, it doesn't really matter which Party gets in (out of the main 3), as they're all bought off by big business anyway. Why do you think Wonga, etc. is still legal? Because Wonga funds the Tory Party.
Worse than that, they're all bought off by the banks, especially by the Rothschilds. The only way that we'll become a free nation (including Scotland, although I'd rather Scotland go independent if we stay the way we are, as it'd **** up the oil companies badly) is if we gain control over our central bank.

But the Tories are by far the worst puppets, especially Cameron and Ian Duncan Smith, laughing at the fact that more people are forced into using food banks.

IDS goes on about "scroungers", but he lives rent-free in his wife's mansion, uses ******* expenses (if they are benefits, then what the **** are?), and doesn't even pay tax!

One of the worst aspects about our culture is the Tabloid Media as well, as such "news" outlets as the Daily Mail, etc. all spin hatred against the poorest members of society.
They get the idiots that read their paper to hate their own people, distracting them from the real scroungers: the bankers and the politicians.

The only virtuous politician I know of at the moment is Galloway, so hopefully his Respect Party can get some seats in the next Election.
