Hearing all the college students on FJ worry about finales got me thinking: I'm 19 and still have no plans for college. My main problem is that I'm afraid to make the wrong choice and get stuck in expensive classes that I don't like, to someday work in a job I hate.
Then I thought to myself: Where are there people are are just like me? Here! I'm not saying we're all the same, but I have more in common with you guys than any other place in the world or on the web. So, my question is, what are YOU going to school for?
Second year of becoming a Systems Analyst, so I'm learning lots about computer programming and web design and web development (as well as stupid shit like how to make presentations and technical reports). If you find a degree that gives you a lot of skill sets you'll be more likely to find one specific thing in a specific class that you really like and can find ways to focus on that. I didn't start college till I was 20 cause I didn't know what to do, I suddenly decided I had a decent idea and went for it. The worst case scenario is you waste a semester's worth of tuition, it sucks but it could be worse.
I'm in my second year of psychology and frankly i thought we would be doing alot more...psychology i mean instead of studying how the brain works and anything to do with mental illness i can tell you all about memory and theorists. Its pretty hit and miss but over all im glad i took the degree now instead of waiting to be sure even if we never get round to the stuff i specifically want to do i'll come out of it with a degree and be able to get the job i want
you should think about your career options then choose the class you need to get it
I put myself in debt to pay my college fees for something I thought I wanted my entire life. Within the first year I was the most miserable I've ever been in my life. I had to leave or I would have put a bullet in my head.
All my life I had wanted to be a nurse, so I studied children's nursing. What I hadn't considered was how hard it would be, I thought I had a thick enough skin to see tiny children in a bad condition, but I really wasn't. Day after day I was seeing children who would die before they reached puberty and they were none the wiser, also children who were only in there because their parents had beaten them to a pulp, then we had to be nice to the parents despite knowing that they had done this to their infant child. I'm just too soft for that shit, and that's something that didn't hit me until I was there.
What I'm really trying to say is, consider EVERY aspect of the career you'd like to pursue before you make any moves towards it, don't do what I did and spend a lot of money on something I just couldn't handle.
I haven't been interested in school after leaving elementary school to be honest.
At the moment I'm focusing myself on getting a full-time job to pay for my personal training certification, no school required, but I need to study and get the money for it.
Even between that in my spare time I'm starting a new gaming channel focused towards helping players in World of Warcraft and introductions to new games.
I went to college for about 2-3 weeks and it didn't suit me like usual. If things don't workout with my new plan, I'll still be having fun.
Gaming and lifting all the way ^^
