the moisture on your fingers gives them better grip.
more friction means an easier grasp of the page from one side, thus, an easier page flip.
youre supposed to lick the fingers that are flipping the pages, but this kid obviously has no idea what the **** hes doing.

ok, i was merely suggesting that, based on personal experience, it isnt that difficult to turn a page without the necessity of doing this. i suppose the way i worded it did make it seem as though i didnt know the most obvious ******* thing about this; the only reason i posted this was to show my lack of comprehension for more of why people do this, not so much why it works.

it just makes it easier. even if its really easy to do it without licking your fingers, its just another way to make the task at hand a bit less difficult.
even if its fractionally easier, its still easier.

as for why teachers tend to do it, teachers are lazy ***** most of the time, (from personal experience)
