Robbery isn't rewarding at all, actually, way too much hassle for way too little money. Plus potential jail time.
Plus the danger of getting killed by the store clerk/cops.
Yeah, thanks, I'd take a dead end job and drinking myself unconscious every weekend over potentially going to jail and getting shanked in the bathroom. Atleast I'd be killing myself in the way I want to.

So really, don't criticize them when you don't consider how lucky you are not to be forced to choose between a starving family and taking money off of a business - which will have that money replaced eventually, while you continue to try and find work and never come up with anything.

Many people are reduced to stealing, it's not something every chooses as their first go-to. The job economy is beyond **** right now, we've got more people killing themselves over being completely unable to find work or get government assistance for disabilities/lack of job than we've got job positions opening up.

The close distance and the very narrow space between rows very severely limits the sword's options, while the same leaves the sword guy in range of just about everything a knife can do.
On the other side of the coin, that sword looks like it might be one of a common brand of a practice sword. If that's true, and its not for show, the guy with the knife was screwed anyway.

Most robbers don't want to kill because they're desperate enough to rob for money but they're morally opposed or at least they worry if they're caught there's going to be a much larger punishment.
Psychologically in the victim, I can't speak for everyone, but they don't experience these emotions because they feel justified in retaliating to someone who threatened them, so they're willing to fight when they robber might not be.

I would. Having trained with various swords, I can tell you swinging a big ******* thing like that around in a store amounts to nothing. Honestly I'd just shoot you, or if you went for it while I was already close, just a quick half-jump over and shove my knife in the side of your neck while you're trying to hoist the blade.
