I think he's just plain stupid, surrounded by parasitic "friends" who just keep praising for his bull **** thus providing him with this sense of pseudo intellect. I guess, what I'm trying to say is that he's a rich fedora, with enablers.

Zoolander is the exact same thing, but since we're the audience and not the people experiencing it, we think it's funny.

Rhetorical question, It could mean that the book's in such high demand that the store always needs to keep it in stock or that the books was so unpopular that not enough people bought it for the store to get rid of their first shipment. However, I do find this idea stupid because the popularity of the book doesn't necessarily mean that the books is well written, that can be only determined after you know what to look for in a good book. For Example Twilight and Fifty Shades of grey are popular books but if I had to be honest I'd say they're complete **** where as Lord of the rings, A song of ice and fire and to kill a mocking bird are amazing books and deserve the respect and popularity that they have earned. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, your opinion doesn't necessarily matter just because you read a book, you also need some sort of connection to the literary arts and you should know what a good book should consist of. Sorry this is the best I can explain it.

I was thinking that it could actually be a valid question from a business/sales perspective. Say you own a book store, and you often look at the store of your competitor down the street. You notice that wile other books come and go, there are certain ones that always seem to be in stock. If you were wondering whether it would be a good idea to carry those books in your own store, you would need to figure out which of those books was always there due to it being well stocked, and which ones were just taking up space on the shelves that could be used for more popular/ better selling products. I've also have had similar thoughts after buying an obscure book at a bookstore. They would have only one copy on the shelves, which i would end up buying. Then a few weeks later i would be back and i would notice another copy. The question that would bring up is did i possibly create the illusion of there being a demand for the title, causing them to order more copies, or did they constantly have to restock it, and just keep most of the copies in the storeroom?

See, I get your point but your logic is still flawed, a book store wouldn't need to go through the trouble of creating an illusion for you to buy a certain book, as long as the customer is buying any book the store owner should be happy and at that point the simple rule of supply and demand comes into play. If a certain book is in demand at a certain time then the owner would simply order a larger shipment of those but for complete customer satisfaction he would still buy a smaller shipment of books that aren't as popular but would still get him a sale. In special cases your logic may be applicable like if the shop owner needs to get rid of a certain low demand title as quickly as possible to create space or to get a high priced book off his hands.I guess what I'm saying is at one point or another every book gets sold but if you want it gone as soon as possible a tactic such as implied by you can be applied.

Probably should just clarify that the book store would not be the one creating the illusion for you to buy the book; the bookstore might mistake you purchasing the book as a sign that there is a greater demand for the book than there actually would be.
