that it can recognise the antigens of the virus

My boyfriend's brother is so into this **** that it's a little scary. Anti-medicine in general, because it's all just corporations trying to make money. While I do believe that doctors are very quick to prescribe harsh medications, I also dont think that everything is killing you.
He also won't drink fluorinated water because it makes it easier for you to be controlled.
It's hard to talk to him sometimes.
#127 to #38 - friendlyanon (11/11/2013) [-]
Fluorinated water makes you easily controled...? Well, that's... New, to say something...

It's true, to a point, that the pharmacological industry, and all the medic world in general, is nowadays more focused in making money than in really caring about health (World Health Organization ****** up pretty good with all that scam about some time ago, creating unnecessary panic about a kind of influenza just to sell more vaccines, *sigh*).

But that's all. There is no evil mastermind trying to slave us through secret drugs. Fear and missinformation are way cheaper and simpler.

Well, just try not speaking with him much, for the sake of both 3 of you
User avatar #266 to #38 - brenton (11/11/2013) [-]
Doctors may be quick to prescribe, but most states in the United States have a system in place where a Pharmacist can review the medications you're taking, call the doctor and question anything unnecessary, and request changes be made to the doctor's choice in medicine right there over the phone. Pharmacists actually do this whole review and check for adverse interactions process for every prescription that comes in, which is why when everyone asks us "Why does it take half an hour to fill a prescription? Aren't you just counting pills back there?" we get kinda frustrated (but never show it). I'm currently a PharmD student/intern. A very small portion of our 4-year curriculum is actually about drugs. The rest of the time is filled with how to detect anomalies, deal with patients, administer vaccines, and council patients on their specific disease situation and what is being done to help them medically. Also, we're taught to try and administer healthcare using the fewest and most mild drugs possible to get the best outcome possible, because we aren't paid based on the number of meds we dispense. We gain nothing by pushing pills and looking the other way when an MD is prescribing too many.

Over prescribing does exist, but pharmacists do their best to stop it from happening once the patient reaches their stage in the healthcare system.

The assumption that something containing Mercury or "Amonium Sulphate" is automatically considered a health risk by these people really grinds my gears. The single elements that make up a compound don't automatically indicate its effect. Even hydrocarbons can kill you one way or another, even though they only consist of elements that normally would not cause your ignorant alarm bells to ring.

#237 to #233 - tyroneisanigger (11/11/2013) [-]
Wow, that's actually really interesting. I'm not sure what I think on the increasing rate of children diagnosed with it. Something's definitely going on, I think.

My theory on how Autism / Asperger's is developed is that it is hereditary. I was told (when my doctor explained it to me when they found out I had Asperger's) was that say your great grandfather had mild anxiety / social awkward tendencies, he would then have children (grandparents) with slightly increased anxiety and Asperger's - like symptoms until the gene was handed down into the current generation. If I was to have children (which I'm only 18 so I wont for a while) there would be increased likelyhood they have would Asperger's as well.

Sorry if that's a little bit of a rant but posts about "Vaccines causing Autism" are complete ******** .
User avatar #268 to #237 - certifiedidiot (11/11/2013) [-]
That's cause in the old days they didn't have things defined as **** like this, they're making the term more broad and act surprised when more people get ******* diagnosed.
User avatar #244 to #237 - playerdous (11/11/2013) [-]
Actually I think you might be touching on the subject of "Ghost in your genes", its a segment about how we can temporarily pass down genetic alterations. Basically it was about a community that suffered from starvation during the great depression and their grandsons and great grand daughters had a high risk of diabetes or some other weight problem. Honestly my opinion on the chart is that were either getting better at reporting it or including more things as autistic. Like how technically there are more trees today than 100 years ago.
#246 to #244 - tyroneisanigger (11/11/2013) [-]
That's definitely true that they are getting better at reporting it. Though I believe that the amount of children diagnoses with it has actually increased. There's this book that lists every known neurological disorder and before 2011, Autism and Asperger's were considered different syndrome. Since then, it was change to "Autism Spectrum Disorder". That's because there's so many symptoms that are associated with Autism. Like you may have social awkward tendencies yet you lack many of the other symptoms. So that may also have a role in more doctors diagnosing Autism. For doctors to recognize it as Autism, there has to be 8 of 16 different symptoms noticeable.
User avatar #247 to #246 - playerdous (11/11/2013) [-]
I did not know this. I find it too hard of a feat to try and draw a line of where "social shyness" ends and autism begins.
#345 to #247 - tyroneisanigger (11/11/2013) [-]
Social awkwardness is not wanting to talk with others and be around other people voluntarily. Autism is the inability to want to talk with others and be around others, failure to recognize social cues (facial expressions). Due to not being able to recognize facial expressions they do not know what to say next when this happens I just kinda go "Mhmm" nod my head and wait until they're done and walk away.

I never really understood people who are anti vaccines.

I mean, theres smallpox. The first record of smallpox is ancient egypt. It killed people all over the world.

Smallpox is now erradicated thanks to the vaccine.

Then there is polio. Do you know where polio still pops up? African countries where they think the vaccine is a conspiracy. We have almost completely erradicated two diseases (one being the disease that probably killed more humans in history) and yet people are against vaccines. It does take a great level of retardation.
User avatar #117 to #78 - jtwagner (11/11/2013) [-]
Smallpox is not eradicated, and still exists in lesser developed countries, including Haiti and most of Asia, and the reason both these diseases are still prevalent is because vaccines are expensive, and most distributors are unwilling to sell them to these people at an affordable price. Paul Farmer, a medical anthropologist writes about this exact thing.
#251 to #117 - lozarus (11/11/2013) [-]
You have a source for that?

According to the WHO, smallpox is indeed erradicated, along with rinderpest.

To quote the WHO: "The last known natural case was in Somalia in 1977. Since then, the only known cases were caused by a laboratory accident in 1978 in Birmingham, England, which killed one person and caused a limited outbreak"

not arguing your statement, but... to be fair,
One on the leading theories in the medical field is that AIDS is a man-made disease witch had it's outburst in early polio vaccine tests on Apes and Humans in Africa...
but then again, that was back in the 1950s, and science has evolved tremendously since then.
but i can kinda understand the Africans skepticism as they have been the "West"s Ginnie-pigs more than once.

It started because autism happens to manifest itself around the same age that most children are receiving vaccines, so a guy named Andrew Wakefield decided to do a study on it.
