I can do with the intelligence for my spells. Does it add any health or mana? I could really use the mana.

User avatar #123 to #122 - angelious ONLINE (12/11/2014) [-]
its not low self esteem. when it comes down to it this is mostly done with cnc and autocad. also since the cnc at my old workplace was **** it ****** up the depth of the carvings so you cant see the birch underneath the oak veneer properly.

inlay the grooves with some white wood veneer to make it more awesome
User avatar #78 to #65 - angelious ONLINE (12/11/2014) [-]
the main piece is made out of birch. it has just been covered with oak veneer and then the symbols were carved on it with cnc and an icepick(cnc screwed up the depth of the carvings so you cant see the birch properly underneath it)

i dont have the tools to make these things anymore. sadly.

i was an industrial carpenter and most of my works have been done via high grade equipment (cnc being one of my strong points)

but if i ever get the chance to work with cnc and autocad ill certainly think about making one of those.

sure man. Ive made at least 12 different rings, metal ones too. So if you want a custom one, I can probably make it.

Just wondering, how much would you charge?
User avatar #167 to #51 - mikemeiers (12/12/2014) [-]
It would depend what wood youd want and the style. Not over 50$ in any case. Average of 20-30$ maybe if shipping is covered.

Hi,
So, can I have some info on these rings?

Or why not make an eBay shop, or an etsy?

Make a post of you making them, and then sell like mad!

User avatar #170 to #117 - mikemeiers (12/12/2014) [-]
The only problem I have with making an easty shop is the demand. I'd need to produce a lot, since they would sell rather well, and I am a student so it would be near impossible. What info where you looking for?
User avatar #173 to #170 - connorjay (12/12/2014) [-]
How long does it take you to make?
Is it a hobby you enjoy?

I was just thinking, make them at your own leisure for a few months/years, and then once you have a fair few, make the shop / ebay and sell them.

Posting the process on FJ, Reddit and any other sites would ensure a decent response.

I was just wondering how long it took you to make, how much you'd sell them for, what ring size do you usually make? I would assume for your own ring / middle finger.
User avatar #175 to #173 - mikemeiers (12/14/2014) [-]
I do enjoy it, but to get it right it can take 4 hours a ring. My hands are pretty big so Im usually a 11-13 depending on the hand.

User avatar #50 to #49 - mikemeiers (12/11/2014) [-]
well, OP's rings are a bit easier and time effective. Ive done essentially the same thing but with veneer. It's a lot less intense but offers less options.

This special ring crafted in an Eastern land is made
of gold, but with a wood grain crest on its surface.

Agents of subterfuge in this faraway land are particularly
fond of the dark gold wood grain, which greatly
alters its wearer's rolling action.

ATTENTION FJ: I have a special request due to my lacking in carpentry skills and just crafting skills in general I would like to inquire making one of these for my GF of almost 3 and a half years coming up as a promise ring to add a much more gold and sparkly one later... What would be the best wood to use here to match her middle name Rose and how would go about getting the strips properly and what rock for the engraving would best match her birthstone Opal... It would be greatly appreciated and I would gladly compensate thumbs for any advice Thank you its much appreciated

#113 to #112 - isonig (12/11/2014) [-]
Yew is a very bendy wood, you need a planer to strip it. Quartz can be pink-red and is very commonly found in gravel. Opal is the colour of the rock opal.

Did you really not know about rosewood?

I mean..."My girlfriend's name is Diamond, what rock should I get her on her wedding ring?!"

Also stop dating strippers. They're never worth it.
#115 to #108 - battletechmech (12/11/2014) [-]
You could use rosewood, and you could use mother of pearl or quartz for the engraving. They're both white, and opal can be lots of different colors.

Ok awesome Thank you as well all advice is greatly appreciated. OP will deliver results of ring when finished!!
