Is "striven" a word?

Wouldn't you just say, ".. Scientists have strived to find its chemical..."

They're scientists, not English majors. They contribute to society, after all.

No, the past participle is striven, so "has striven" and "have striven" are correct, but "have strived" has been used so much that it is considered to be acceptable.

Strived implies it is entirely in the past while striven leaves it open.
