If you like it, I can make tons more of Elite gifs/videos. Funny, informative or with a specific reason, let me know if you have questions that need answered!

The game is called Elite: Dangerous, a space simulation. It includes an open Milky-Way galaxy with over 400 BILLION stars you can explore at your free will (yes, you read that right, unimaginably large number). Tons of ways to tackle the galaxy such as: Bounty hunting, Pirating, Exploration, Trading, Miner, Smuggling, Military.
The new expansion coming now is called Elite: Horizons. It enables players to land on every *land-able* planet they find. (400 billion stars, on average, each with 8 planets, do the math). More updates on Horizons include (from what I've heard) Base Building, Crafting, etc.
I had to look into it. It seems you are correct, you can keep on playing like that. As it usually happens, I had listened to ******** from other people on the internet and thought it was true.
Horizons is an expansion pack coming out now on Christmas in beta. It will continue to expand until late 2016 and a lot more content will be added in it (as I mentioned base building, crafting). At the moment, you can only land on the planets and get out of your ship in a SRV (Surface Recon Vehicle) and do whatever (mine, explore, fight)
"An open milky-way galaxy". Milky way is the name of our galaxy. Our planet is part of a solar system that is part of that galaxy that is part of space. There are many galaxies in space, for example Andromeda.
Not to sound condescending, but I am very aware of how solar systems, planets, galaxies, group of galaxies, the observable universe, and most of anything else fits.
What I meant by "an open Milky-Way Galaxy" is that, so far, we have only managed to map a very very small portion of stars in our solar vicinity (about 3-4k light years bubble + some distant stars, not to mention other galaxies). The Milky Way galaxy in the game is fictional, apart from these stars that we actually know of, and know their position (note: Elite: Dangerous team has a few astronomers working for them or at least supplying information about stars)
Example: stars beyond our galaxy core. There is no bloody way in hell we know where they are, we can only assume that they are there. Since this game has stars with fixed coordinates, they are a mere speculation. Let me know if you have any other remarks (or if I didn't explain it properly, english is not my first language).
Oh OK. I know they are trying to depict our galaxy as close to the original as possible but the way you had phrased that sentence made it sound like there were many milky ways, and I thought I should make it clear.
It is, but if you find yourself in a ship you are comfortable with, you can probably chill in it for months doing missions and other things before you start to really grind for credits. Expensive things take effort in this game, but once you have money, it's easier to make more. Lots more. It's worth it I think.
Only No man's sky will let you walk and explore all planets-moons and every single cubic centimetre of the entire space they have created that will host thousands or millions of galaxies and not just one.
Yeah, I've made the video just for gags. Black holes in this game are actually not that deadly. If you look closely, before I select the object, there is a bright yellow circle around it. That's the radius at which I could have gone to and be ejected from supercruise next to it.
I really love this game but I dont play it that much. The reason being is that it scares the crap out of me. Its not a horror game or anything but its just space itself scares me and I dont know why
I understand you buddy. I am in the same situation, especially with black holes. And you might not think that since, well, I've just uploaded a gif of one. But I do have bad dreams most of the time involving them. hold me
If Star Citizen allows multiple people to be in the same ship (I think it plans to) it'll definitely succeed. Even relatively boring activities can be supplemented by a community aspect, especially if the game can be played with friends, not just random strangers.
Then good. Think of World of Warcraft: The dungeons are boring as **** if you're playing alone, but the community aspect of working together and talking to people while doing mindless combat is what makes it addictive. If people can cruise around the universe, explore planets, fighting pirates, and hunting for wealth, all while talking to their friends and cracking jokes, the game becomes fun even when it's not fun.
No Mans Sky is looking promising, but Star Citizen is looking more and more like a cash n grab. I mean really...$15,000 bundles? Claiming theyre running out of money because they decided to hire big name hollywood voice actors for their single player campaign? They're so focused on selling everybody ships before theyre even able to be used that it looks like it's going to be a flop. Elite at least is starting out a mile long and an inch deep so they have a playable, working framework from which to make deeper and deeper.
that a Vulture? **** man I had one for like a couple weeks and been tried several others since, especially Imperial ships but there's nothing like the vulture..
I'd get this game i:
1) It weren't so goddamn expensive. And
2) It weren't multiplayer only yes, I know there is single player, but you have to be online to play, so what's the point?
So you'd rather download several TB of game and leave it running perpetually in the background to make sure the simulation is accurate just so you dont need a tiny amount of bandwidth of internet connection to play?
Then play Solo mode. That way you're the only human player around. You'd still be influenced by other players in that the economies of systems will change depending on how much players are trading in those areas, causing stuff like more pirates to show up or certain things to be outlawed, but that happens dynamically even in systems players aren't in. Really the only noticeable thing you'd see is if you participated in a Community Goal, and if that's what youre doing, the only influence others players would have on you is a positive one, as it would increase the reward tiers and get you better payouts. As far as player interaction/pvp, there's none of that in solo mode.
You need to be online to play because the players shape the galaxy as the game unfolds. Even if you play solo, your actions influence that of other players depending on which Power Play faction you choose, if you discover something first (get a name tag) etc.
Well, then I was originally right: the game IS multiplayer-only. Luckily I still have my X games to scratch the space sim itch, and I don't really see what really new stuff Dangerous is bringing to the table...
Well I'm not not an expert, but I always found X3: The Reunion to be quite enjoyable. It's got space combat, exploration, and trading aspects pretty much polished.
You can definitely look it up if you are interested or just genuinely curious. Whenever I find out about space sims in general, I look them up to see what new things they bring. Without trying to influence opinion, between Star Citizen and Eve Online, Elite is my kind of thing, coming from a former Freelancer player.
I've heard it's on sale, however, if you want to get the Horizons as well, I might suggest buying that when it comes out, as it gives you Dangerous as well. (not 100% sure, please search more about this topic)
You would be correct. "Elite Dangerous: Horizons includes all Elite Dangerous content to date, and all players will continue to fly together in the same galaxy." Taken from their website. Also owners of Elite: Dangerous have a £10 (maybe $15?) when purchasing Horizons.
yeah Hel's only 15 jumps away at the moment, do you play solo or private? I usually play private cause I tend to spend most of my time doing cg's and im not a huge fan of pvp outside cqc I'm bad at pvp
I mostly do open. Haven't had any issues with players so far save for one instance in the Kaushpoos CG where some asshat in an ushielded eagle kept suicide ramming everyone outside Neville Horizons to make the station defenses kill everyone.
Too bad that i'm bountyhunting in some random ass LTT system LTT 15278 , but the station has a Fer-De-Lance and the RES was like 50Ls away from the station. Currently working on making the system Zachary Hudson's place so i can get the multiplied bounty. Sadly it takes a while with the whole 10LYs of jumprange on my Viper.
I just want a sexy Fer-De-Lance, but my Viper gets torn apart within seconds of bounty hunting. I don't get that many good runs.
Well, with an A-ranked python, it'll indeed be easier. Hazardous might be doable.
My biggest issue with bounty runs is that i'm either not getting System Authority condas to tank for me or the people with bounties just kinda vanish.
I'd get 1 or 2 Fer-De-Lances or Pythons to show up before it's reduced to Sidewinders or Imperial Couriers.
Oh yeah, i got plenty of chaff to **** out if they point there guns at me.
Plenty of speed to get out of range aswell. Currently i'm just sporting gimballed Beam Lasers and those automatic guns. So i can manage, but i get wrecked if anything goes on the offensive against me.
Then again, when you're allied with the system authority, i think they send in a wing when you get attacked. Best i've gotten is a wing with 2 Condas showing up and both of them ramming the Sidewinder that was attacking me. Made even more hilarious that it was a CMDR trying to take my bounties.
Dammit, why does this game only go on sale only when I'm so broke I can't afford it anyway? It looks so ******* awesome. I definitely want to see more Elite gifs.
I tried to get the game, but the stupid game's startup menu cut off the top and bottom important parts on my screen, no matter how I changed the resolution and the stupid website wouldn't recognize my purchase of it on steam even when I had clearly purchased it. I was pissed and returned the **** . Oh how I wish it actually functioned properly.
**** yeah, Elite. I bought it when I was supposed to be studying for my exams. Sank almost 200 hours into it over three weeks and failed 3 exams. I mean I was gonna fail at least two of them most likely, but it really didn't help my chances. Not doing anything that stupid again. Great game though. The gameplay is smooth as **** . Polished to perfection.
I don't know what happened? That *screech* was meant to be a shotgun blast. Error in the recording, and it ain't gonna get any better than that. I used my ****** built-in microphone to make it sound like a phone call rather than my good one.
By the way, Addy, fantastic new feature.
I have over 600 hours logged on this game in the 6 or so months i've had it and have actually made a channel for it here on fj: /channel/elite-dangerous
Any questions about the game, feel free to ask me!
I dunno man.. I've wanted this game for a while and now its on sale... but this whole Horizons **** puts me off. I mean a DLC which costs as much as that full price game? Might just wait for that and grab it instead since apparently you get the full game with it..
Their business model is as such: "We don't want publishers getting in the way of our vision, so we're funding this ourselves. To do that, we've decided to release the game in seasons, with each "expansion" coming out once per year and including all major content updates for the following year with it."
This essentially lets them build the game in building blocks, with each finely polished release laying the framework for future things. Example: the base game laid the framework for all the space and flight and background mechanics. Horizons will add in the framework for planetary activites and character creation as well as their loot/crafting system. Theoretically, the 2017 season will start off with the framework for EVA and on-foot activities such as on-foot exploration and first person shooting.
