True story.

I was in a Job Corps center in Kentucky. Dunno if any of you have ever been in the program, but if you wanna learn more about it, it's pretty easy to check out.

Anyway, people from literally all over the country were at this place. There was one girl from Tampa, Florida, who had never in her life seen snow of any kind, except for on television and **** . Well, come early November, we start getting some serious drifts rolling through. The very first day it snowed, though, I found her just standing outside, looking up, and just staring into the clouds. I asked her if something was wrong.

She turned to me and, with tears in her eyes, she gave me the biggest, stupidest happy smile I've ever seen, and with rosy cheeks, she said to me, "No, James. This is just about the best day of my life."

**** was so profound, I just stood there and stared at the snow with her for ten whole minutes.

That 'winter storm Cleon' that passed last week hasn't melted here and yesterday my grandma and I slipped down our driveway (it's a hill) and my shoes went flying and she was unconscious and we both lay on the snow silently and I just watched it blow around in a frozen daze.

I've lived in Louisville, Kentucky all my life. Weather here is ******* insane, we get snow on thanksgiving and rain on christmas, and the occasional sharknado rolls through. What kills me is when family comes from out of town to stay and this very thing happens.

User avatar #34 to #30 - kanatana (12/11/2013) [-]
Nah, it's okay. I didn't ask her out or anything. I'd known her for a few months by then, and we had the same classes. She was more like a sister than anything else. Not trying to sound beta or anything, but we just weren't ever that attracted to each other. She was pretty enough, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't ever really like that. I still talk to her on Facebook occasionally, and she got married a couple years ago. She's a dynamite gal.

I can completely sympathize with that girl. Not only do I life in Florida, I attend college in Tampa. Every year when christmas rolls around, we're still stuck in the high 80's and the whole holiday-season's feeling gets lost on most floridians.
Not to be a sap, but a few years ago my family flew up to Minnesota to have christmas and when I saw snow, I surprised myself by actually tearing up.
A lot of the northerners weren't expecting something as simple as snow to have such an effect on me or my family, but it felt ******* magical. Like every holiday movie was finally coming to life
pic relevant. Me and my cousin in florida ON christmas last year.
User avatar #136 to #130 - kanatana (12/11/2013) [-]
Very cool. Listen, I've grown up around snow basically since I was a kid. I was in Oklahoma until I was eight, then we moved to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. But every other Christmas, we would go to my grand/ or great grandparents' house up in Michigan, and there would be hella snow to play around in. From there, when I was ten, we moved to Germany, which is... well, a VERY snowy place. Needless to say, I'm used to it.

I don't wanna be that guy, but your cousin is hot. I don't care which one you are, your cousin is hot. Did I just make this weird?
User avatar #154 to #136 - kailybailybo (12/11/2013) [-]
It's so weird to realize how much certain small things can matter so much for some people, while being taken for granted by other's just by living in different area's. Not saying you take anything for granted but I know a lot of people hate and get annoyed whenever it snows.

and no, you just made this interesting. -bowchickawowow-

Tell me about it. Like, I went to San Francisco for further schooling, right? So, there I am on Treasure Island, the island between San Francisco and Oakland, and it's my second or third night there. I'm standing above the breakers on the shore, just looking out over the Bay at the city's skyline, just taking it all in and I'm just in total awe. To my left, the Bay leads out to the Pacific Ocean. To my right is fukkin Alcatraz A bit further on beyond that is the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm just sitting on the rocks there, like, "Holy. **** ."

I never grew up in anything more than a quiet suburb before then, so life in the city for the next year was... Interesting.

Two months later, I got caught up in the middle of a Gay Pride parade, but that's another story.

And the plot thickens. Boom shakalakalaka.

As a Minnesotan, I think we enjoy snow quite a bit the first couple times it does in a given year. We only start to take it for "granted" when it keeps snowing into even May (as happened last year)

There's goods and bads. Snow is indeed beautiful...but you've probably never felt the below 0 wind chill, it's pain all over. Skiing is fun as hell however, and as bad as snow gets, seldom does anyone die as a result of it excluding driving accidents, but fatalities from those are low as well . I'm always relieved I live in New England when I see tornadoes, earthquakes, wildfires and the likes happening elsewhere...no catastrophic disasters here.

I live in Canada, when it starts to snow everyone always gets upset and hates it so much, but i love sitting and watching it slowly blanket everything, especially on benches outside of school at lunch. It's always so serene and quiet at a place and time where hundreds of tiny things moving around usually adds up to huge garbled voice that surrounds you like they do, but these things just slowly float in the wind, without making a single noise, it's awesome.
