Can anyone give me a detailed back story to this. I'm British and been away from media for a while

Long story short.

Obama wants his healthcare act passed. Republicans in congress are downright refusing because they hate everything Obama does, regardless of the fact that nobody really knows if the healthcare act will help or hurt until it's tried out. They told Obama they would refuse to pass a budget involving the healthcare act. Because of this, Congress cannot pass a budget for anything.

Republicans last week told Obama they'd rather shut down the government (lol) than pass his act. Obama told him they're GOING to pass his act and called them out on it. So they shut down the government, all but the essential things like police and hospitals.

The affects are pretty minimal so long as it only lasts a week. Longer than that and we could have some problems as nobody is getting paid for anything, even essential workers who have not been told to go home aren't getting paid.

Obama won't back down or he'll look like he's a smalldicked wuss. Republicans won't for the same. So they're both in a my cock is bigger than your cock battle and honestly I think they shouldn't be getting paid for it.

"So they're both in a my cock is bigger than your cock battle and honestly I think they shouldn't be getting paid for it." This is why you're getting my thumb.

not to mention that all smaller hospitals will be shut down
User avatar #272 to #268 - elcreepo (10/02/2013) [-]
They'll get shut down without a government budget anyway. Either way this situation could get bad, and that's my point.

no they wont because small hospitals such as the jordan which my mother works at is funded by the state,
User avatar #275 to #274 - elcreepo (10/02/2013) [-]
And WHERE does the state get its money?

The government is the top of all money distribution. This government shutdown WILL cause a lot of grief to the medical system just like any other government-funded operation.

"nobody really knows if the healthcare act will help or hurt until it's tried out"
you serious bro? My parents work in a hospital and there was a poll across the country. 93% ofanyone in the medical or pharmicudical industry says the bill is going to destroy the industries. U.S. has always had a shortage of doctors but now no one is going to want to be one, and the ones that already have positions as doctos will not be able to schedual every single person in america in. life expectancy is expected to drop by 20 years

Also much of that is conjecture. You won't know until you try. The act will likely not be permanent if it has ANY ill effect.

Again, not here to discuss politics. Two differing views we have, and I'd like to keep it that way. Go look for your political fights elsewhere.

I'm not here to discuss politics.

Also, it might not have that affect. People just THINK it might.
User avatar #271 to #269 - IamEllis (10/02/2013) [-]
NO. Thats how the bill is designed, thats the known drawbacks hence why everyone in the medical field despises it. Also why would anyone want to be a doctor now that when you have to go through more than a decade of school and you cant even set your own rates?

if you're not here to debate dont put up ******* arguements then
User avatar #278 to #276 - elcreepo (10/02/2013) [-]
You're the one who started with it. This is why I DON'T discuss politics, because people like you are aggressive about your OPINION.

I'm putting up arguments passively. I've repeatedly said that we are of two differing views and I'd like to keep it that way. You seem to be almost forcing me to give my opinion, I give it while asking you to not **** on this simple explanation.

Geez, it's people who can't learn to compromise and get along that are the reason we ARE shutting down the government.
User avatar #283 to #278 - IamEllis (10/02/2013) [-]
no you put up your point to make then say afterwards that you don't want to argue which is pretty stupid. Its like you're saying i'm wrong then just running out the door

and yeah people dont agree, its one of the downsides to voice our freedom of speech but we'll have to deal with it. We've been here before and survived havnt we?

Politicians are the worst people to have in charge of the world. Anyone who aims to seize power doesn't deserve it
User avatar #264 to #260 - elcreepo (10/02/2013) [-]
I almost forgot to mention, every single time the House (GOP-almost all republicans this year) voted to strike down Obama's act, the Senate said to pass it and would not agree . This is also why we're at an impasse. The system can only get things done when people compromise, and well, politicians don't compromise.
