A roman emperor once declared war on Neptune (their god of the sea)
So he ordered his armies to the beach
And had them stab the water

Yes, but wasn't that more to humiliate his soldiers than an act of actual war? I know the guy was a little crazy though.
User avatar #34 to #31 - Cilreve (07/13/2014) [-]
Caligula wasn't quite sane. I don't really remember the purpose of that "war", but I do remember that he wasn't all there.
#35 to #34 - somenights (07/13/2014) [-]
It's hard to tell when he's crazy and when he's trying to insult someone. Like when he tried to put his horse in the senate or whatever to say that a horse could do their job as well as they could.

The war on drugs turned the US into more of a police state than surveillance ever could.

The economic results (ie gangs fighting for monopoly power) of the war on drugs has result in more deaths than terrorism ever could.

Actually, the US won the "war on drugs" pretty dramatically. your simply confused as to what their goal was going in. The goal was not to end drug use in America, anyone with two sticks to rub together in their brain could tell you that's a rank impossibility. No, the goal of the war on drugs was to centralize a large portion of drug revenue to local and federal government, and to systemically inter, segregate, and degenerate black and latino men for close to 3 generations. The result has been the creation of a permanent underclass of single mothers raising children on the government dole in subsidized housing areas to keep them in bad schools, bad neighborhoods, no role models, in order to spawn another generation of criminals, over and over again. The goal was quite simply artificial re-segregation and the dismantling of the progress socially and culturally which had taken place in the black community prior to the drug war's inception. The reason the United States imprisons so many more people than any other country by an insane margin is not because we have epidemic crime (our crime rates are fairly low per capita compared to many other countries) but is instead a business that makes it's profits off the re-segregation of nonviolent people of color.

User avatar #90 to #83 - schneidend (07/14/2014) [-]
1) Implying the Federal government is coordinated enough to pull off a conspiracy this elaborate, or that its component organizations are even competent enough for that much coordination to matter.

2) If all those black and latino "men" weren't selling illicit substances, participating in gang culture, and committing all sorts of other felonies along the way, maybe they wouldn't have been arrested.

3) Where's you're tinfoil hat?
#94 to #90 - teranin ONLINE (07/14/2014) [-]
1) No major conspiracy was needed, once the pieces were set in motion with the structure of our law enforcement the "plan" as it were became fire and forget.

2) Start from the 1970s, after the civil rights act and martin luther king. When the laws were established initially the arrests were overwhelmingly black and male. When 50% of you're country's drug arrests are black men and black men make up (at the time) around 4% of you're country's population, something doesn't quite add up. All studies have shown that white people do cocaine and heroin at a rate equal to black people across their racial group. When you have ingrained hatred like we do, especially when it's fresh, and then so heavily empower one side to wrong the other, you no longer have to manage any conspiracy, you just watch the dominos fall.

3) Considering I never claimed this was an elaborate conspiracy, beyond the initial intentions, which were contained to a tiny handful of people in the executive branch, and also claimed that it was presented as a war on drugs and then got carried off on it's own momentum, I'm not really sure you understand the difference between paranoid delusion and flat logic.

Feel free to not believe my assertion, I certainly can't prove intent on this one. If you have some alternative theory as to the cause and effects of the War on Drugs by all means keep believing it. Won't make what happened any better, but maybe it'll make it tolerable for you.

the war on drugs has been going on since the 1890's, it has only been slowly getting worse and worse over time, and for what....
so a bunch of corrupt bastards in power can milk taxpayers for money to 'fight' it and pretend theyre trying to help usa at the same time the cia helps import drugs in their private planes flying to south america and back to make sure usa has a ready supply of drugs coming in to be confiscated over and over

plus how many high-level drug dealers are locked up as opposed to simple kids with a small amount of weed being put in jail

User avatar #93 - rootintootinputin (07/14/2014) [-]

I watched a comedian, can't remember his name, he's dead, so if anyone knows, sauce for others. He basically said (and it's paraphrasing, I was stoned, can't remember it fully):

Marijuana is a plant, a natural thing. Of nature. No chemicals. Grown, harvested, done. Trying to outlaw something made of nature, by nature and for nature is like trying to say God made a mistake.
#73 to #8 - anon (07/14/2014) [-]

look, everything is about money, if people were to sell these things, someone would want to try regulate is someway or another. this goes for everything, including weed. here in the netherlands, its being regulated by the government, and is an established business. in america its still a taboo to the superiors, even though it's widespread usage among the poulation.

on the other hand, alcohol is A-ok, which i feel is bulldigestive end product

If you really want it to stop, get an already popular petition and share that.

If you want it to stop and your goal to actually work, the representatives have to actually listen. If you want that to happen, you'll need to get involved in wolf-pac.com or mayday.us and restore democratic power in the people by an Article V convention called by your state legislators for the 28th Amendment of removing corporation power from politics.

If we don't live in a Democracy, then your opinions are irrelevant.
