Wore my ******* helmet because I like my head.

Only reason that I got TBI's instead of death. I had the lovely luck of getting ******* hammered constantly in Paktika, Paktia, Khowst provinces, Deh Yak and Andar districts in Ghazni province, and Panjwa’I district in Kandahar, all way worse than our Baghdad deployment was. Cerebrospinal injuries, nerve damage, reconstructive surgery on my left elbow, left wrist and hand, and left knee. Helmets work, ******* wear them if you'd prefer to take a service-connected rating over a grave at your local VA cemetery.

Currently in the long legal battle to get them to recognize a bunch of them, actually. My initial rating, while in a ******* WHEELCHAIR, was only 40%. It's been steadily going up as the lawyers nail them though. The math is also super ******, they use a table of insanity. 40 and 50 aren't 90, they're 70 something, and so on.
I'm already priority 1 so I get full medical coverage and all that, "special disabled" designation for federal jobs and whatnot, and extra education benefits. I honestly just want the license plate lmao. I don't get why they give you tinnitus or apnea without question, but my spinal injury that requires epidural injections just so I can walk is an "issue", because it wasn't diagnosed until after my discharge and I didn't "go to sick call complaining of back pain" so it's "not in my C-file" and thus need ******* BUDDY STATEMENTS from witnesses to corroborate that I had a back injury.
Even though, you know, I was in a wheelchair until the VA diagnosed what was pinching the nerves and started giving me injections. My right leg STILL goes numb any time I take a ****. I carry a folding cane specifically for if I have to take a **** somewhere other than home and my leg goes offline for a few hours.

Keep fighting brother, I am still fighting to get my knees fixed. Yeah the ******* system for counting up the injuries sucks. I was working on and crewing blackhawks for 10 years. That was what I wanted to do after I got out. Now I can't even climb up and down the aircraft all day with my knees, twisted my right knee 330 deg torn all but 1 tendon out and cracked my kneecap. They would not redeploy me back to the rear to get it fixed so I was at FOB Shank with a lockout brace on for 3 months as I hobbles on the soft ball sized gravel with crutches then later a cane. I also had whats called cholestiatoma in my left ear got surgery to fix it but I am now deaf in that ear due to the surgery. Now I can't even have a cush crewing job. I still have nightmares of picking up the bodies and putting them on the aircraft after the battles when it was safe enough to gather the dead. But I still can only get 70% which is oddly not even 70% of what 100% of the pay would be.

Cav Scout here. Don't get why they keep trying to **** everyone over with **** like this. Like, dude, you got super ****** up, and you only got 40?! ****. That.

I've been out for a few years now, never went to the VA hospital cuz I never went to sick call like a dumbass . Pretty sure the only thing on my file is from Afghanistan, breathing in plastic fumes from burning trash.

Keep up the good fight against the VA. Dumbest thing the government did was separate DOD from Veteran Affairs.

Also, if you rolled out without a helmet you're just asking for trouble.

It is like being paid disability if you are no longer able to work. It is supposed to be based off of E-6 pay if you were E-6 and below. It will help out when you are having a hard time finding a job you can do. but that is about it. you can't live on any less than 100% out in the civilian life if you have a family to take care of.

I don't understand, but my teacher said he had 2 ranks or some such. He rambled a lot, like me, but sometimes it got hard to follow, and it sounded like he made it to Lieutenant and and Sergeant. Can you be both? I'd ask him, but he's facing possible time for cocaine possession. Sorry to keep it up, but you're a vet and would probably know, and seem non-busy at the moment.

I just want to know what is up with the drastic reduction in rank. War stories don't really click with me I have seen the horrors of combat by collecting our honored dead and it was bad enough. But if you are interested I have a couple (non-combat) stories from deployments myself if you want to hear them.

Just a regular guy. A Regular Army guy.

Seriously though, what I've seen and done and been through is no different from tens of thousands of others. Each might have a different flavor, depending on the kind of combat arms, where they're deployed, and what their mission is, but that's just the differences between being mechanized infantry on route clearance and being air assault on raids and shuras. It's not really about the size of your balls, you just have to trust your training, trust your equipment, and most importantly, trust the people around you. If you've got a good command structure, and the people in your team/squad/platoon/etc aren't idiots, you just kinda do your job.

Y'know Blackwater, before the CEO left, had a better track-record with smaller overhead and ZERO CASUALTIES as compared to the American military? Wasn't like they were doing easy **** either. VIP transport was a mainstay and one that the American military actually made harder for them by insisting on using the same routes with the same vehicles.

I know it's blasphemous to say it, but they were better, not worse.

Does the company have to pay the family some kind of compensation if they die in battle?
I presume the official military might do that, and hence has a strong interrest in keeping their employees alive.

American military doesn't give ****, nor do most of these companies as far as I know.

What they DO actually offer is really high life insurance payouts. SGLI, VGLI, USAA, etc, can cover up to a million if you work it right. The military automatically takes $29USD a month from your paycheck, and pays out $400k automatically in case of death. Since the operators are almost all vets, they get USAA and VGLI to cover them.
Now, here's where things get funny. I personally opted out of the life insurance, because statistically, a deployment in Afghanistan is safer than driving a car on the highway. You're 8x more likely to be killed by an American cop in a misunderstanding than by mujahideen in Tora Bora.

It amazes me how ignorant and brainwashed some of these guys are by their 'patriotic' media, when the reality is most of our countries are messed up due to puppet governments and militias funded by the West.

In Syria, we're gonna be suffering that issue with the Kurds for years to come, as they are now heavily weaponized and funded by America. But no worries, America said 'We'll take the weapons back when they're done fighting ISIS', so we'll take their word for it.

You know what's funny? When the Kurdish separatists movement started in Syria, which is 100% communist btw, the first nation to recognize them was...*drum roll*...Israel. No joke.

It was on the news. Israel gave a green light and approved of it. This was back when Obama was still around.

Come 2017, Kurds are now given tanks, Humvees and weapons of all kinds, including training and PR work from the CIA to...'fight ISIS'. After that, what happens next is...well, your guess is as good as mine.

Divide and conquer. With all the money the West has, they'll spend trillions just to keep the East fighting each other. They know building a Kurdish army will bring havoc to the Syrians, Turks, Iraqis and Jordanians but as usual they claim 'it's just an accident' the same way Taliban coming to power was 'just an accident' and the same way ISIS was 'just an accident'.

We're their sandbox...but their time is coming.

What goes up, must come down.

we are indeed their sandbox. but whats worse though...is that our leaders are so easily corrupted and easily fooled by them. money and power buys them. the west can easily implement a new leader in the country and that leader can easily destabilize everything.

i think it's up to us as citizens of those nations to fight for our own country and take it back. i hear people say it all the time that we need a better leader. but no one is ever willing to step up to be that better leader. i think it's because all of us are just too lazy to even try or just too ignorant. sometimes, the barrier for entry does exist but it's simple to break with a strong mind and a strong voice. i don't know if anyone would be willing to stand up and fix these issues, but hopefully one day it'll be better soon as it was before.

It's always important to be positive. Change will come when the pain of staying the same out-does the pain of change.

That's what happened in Syria. It was so painful to just live another day under that government, that they committed to changing it.

The will of the people was so powerful, that Bashar not only had to get Hezbollah, but now Shia armies from Iran, Iraq and now Afghanistan...whom all failed, and now we got a world power nation fighting us called Russia but we still here lol.

It's all Allah's plan. He helps those who helps themselves.

Each day passes, and the Ummah is more unstable and weakened. Genocides, corruption, fake leaders and poverty...but now the white blood cells are building an immunity and insha'Allah we'll get our strength again.

For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

    See the flawed logic?

Additionally, the conversion of Abu Sufyan to Islam is a huge factor of Islam spread. To claim that is false would be to claim Georges Washington was a fictional character.

Read, read, read history, because it wasn't fictional characters that defeated the Persian and Roman Empires.

I say it's important to make a judgement based on knowledge. Doing so based on 'how you feel' or 'what you think' can be dangerous.

People say "Oh, Muhammad was this and that!" yet they don't show proof but instead say "Did you see what the news said about this one Muslim maniac?"

We're a huge religion. The second largest in the world. If we all really did love a criminal, trust me, you'd all be destroyed because we commit to our religion.

Instead, you have millions of innocent, trustworthy Muslims who work, pray, give charity, fast and chill. We're humans like you.

Are there criminals that are Muslim? Indeed. Are there criminals that are non-Muslim? Indeed. That's human nature. There are always bad eggs. Rapists, murderers, liars, thieves and cruel people, but they've been around since the dawn of man.

You speak of half-truths, yet many times European news channels are full of such things, saying nothing good comes from Muslims, when in fact we have countless doctors, scientists and techies working in your countries.

I agree that full context would be more enlightening but world doesn't revolve about Islam and there's much more in play so when I will go and learn something about it, I will always look for more compact info. As long as its sourced, its good.

As far as I am concerned, religion is useless apart from serving as comfort to us in the face of infinity of our unknown. However, that doesn't mean I won't oppose things like Islam when I really dislike them. FYI terror attacks done by Islamists media often try to actually put under the carpet like in Germany.

I'll give you the full context, so instead of picking 1 verse, I'll let you in on the rest of it:

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.

And fight them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah . And if they cease - then indeed, Allah is Seeing of what they do.

But if they turn away - then know that Allah is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and Excellent is the helper.

    8:38-8:40

From the beginning, Allah says if they stop, what they did before will be forgiven.

Context doesn't offer any saving grace at all. Its still the same if they don't stand in our way, leave them be. If they join us, offer them our community benefits. Islamists can just move to other countries, out-breed local populace, push for more laws in their favor and when met with resistance, this exempt gets into effect and warrants violence against non-muslims.

You are, in fact killing other people with this.

Dude, this is strictly a Shia thing. The minority sect which we got beefs with...and they do Taqiya on us. We don't do Taqiya.

Our Quran is public. Our records of Prophet Muhammad is public. We say Allahu Akbar every day in our mosques for all to hear and know what we believe in.

We got nothing to hide and we're told not to hide our religion.

Taqiya arose among the Shia, when fearing persecution from Sunnis, so they're permitted to 'pretend to be Sunni' and pray with us. I've lived among them for 7 years and I know this.

On top of that, people with your religion get often manipulated into carrying out (someone's) special interests.

To this I agree with you 100%.

Muslims are not in a great position right now.

Media freaks out, so people freak out, then ignorant Muslims freak out and start doing stuff in 'self defense'...but it actually comes off as cruel, which it is, and evil.

These extremists are a minority, but they're definitely attracting a lot of attention and giving Islam a bad name.

However, if you have the time and patience, I would wish for you to read the Quran fully.

Mute the noise and the gossip and the shouting from media and people, and just read a book.

From the first pages to the last, it promotes inner peace, understanding of the world, and the truth that there is a God watching and his prophets worked hard to reveal his messages, from Moses, to Jesus and finally Muhammad, peace be upon them all.

That good people will be rewarded, and evil will be punished.

People who are impatient and cruel at heart will, just like with any ideology, take things out of context to make themselves powerful.

But I was raised a Muslim from my birth, and all my friends and family are passive.

My mother actually converted to Islam and got married. She loved everything it taught and she wouldn't hurt a fly.

I don't want to take too much of your time, but if you want more knowledge about what majority Muslims actually follow, watching videos from people like Mufti Menk, Omar Suleiman or Nouman Ali Khan. Public speakers who clarify all the verses and meanings of Quranic verse and Hadeeth.

I hope you persist on looking or the truth, and I thank you for being civil about this.

Man, Ben Carson thinks the pyramids were built to store food. The guy doesn't know **** about anything outside of the medical field. He's not some religious scholar. The guy's knowledge on Islam is comparable to your average Facebook uncle.

The WAPO article has references to hadiths, verses in the Quran, and Islamic history. You can't just pick and choose what's true and what's not because it doesn't fit your narrative.

The first link I posted also had references to hadiths, verses in the Quran, and Islamic history and not just cherry picked ones to spread your lies. I "can't pick and choose what's true and what's not because it doesn't fit [my] narrative" but you can?

That link used out-of-context verses and hadiths. It also cites an anti-Muslim preacher as a source for the information, which tells you all you need to know.

One of the hadiths that it references as an example of 'Muslims being told to lie' is in the context of the early Muslims facing persecution. The hadith is basically saying that you're allowed to deny being a Muslim and god won't judge you because he's merciful, understanding, etc.

The Quran verse about 'not taking Jews and Christians as allies' isn't some broad command, it's referring to a specific group of Jews and Christians that the early Muslims had contact with.

The whole concept is intellectually dishonest, 'oh, whenever a Muslim acts in a way that doesn't fit my narrative, they must be lying! Taqiyya!' It's literally just a tactic by bigots to smear peaceful Muslims. I'd recommend you talk to someone who comes from a Muslim background if you want to learn, or at least look for a neutral academic source. You're not going to get good information from websites that have an agenda to push.

You are so big on "muh persecution." Who the **** is persecuting you? The entire history of Islam is them conquering the middle east and northern Africa through warfare and then raiding and pillaging southern Europe for centuries.

RAYMOND IBRAHIM LOL. Dude, look that guy up. He's one of those guys who thinks Obama is a secret member of ISIS. I think he's also talked about how Muslims need to be genocided. You literally can't find any credible sources.

Here's the thing m8, it's not a thing. Go ask any Muslim. Go ask any *ex-Muslim.* Most of what the American right 'knows' about Islam is complete ********.

You keep talking about Islam as if it's this monolithic, singular entity. It's a massive and ideologically diverse faith. You might want to read up on the history of the conflict in the Middle East, m8. It's political, not religious.

random question for those who have seen active combat. is this what some of it actually looks like?

it just doesnt look right with the clothing they are wearing, the AKs around an abram tank, running out in the open like that?, seemingly standing out in the open, etc.

only real combat footage iv seen is WW1 stuff, random clips of Japanese kamikazes in the pacific, and tons of fire from bombing runs in Vietnam. no idea what "modern" combat looks like.

Looks like PMCs, the mixed races, the use of AKs, the civvy clothing mixed with military hardware makes me think these guys are mercenaries.

They're part of the Free Burma Rangers. They do a lot of humanitarian aid missions and are a volunteer paramilitary force that fights oppressive organizations and regimes.
So yeah I think Free Burma Ranger is a pretty cool guy, eh kills trerorists and doesn't afraid of anything.

sounds like a cool group, however i hope they dont supply too much aid.

big problem i noticed is that providing aid means they dont need to develop them selves and they just grow in population as they get more and more food/supplies.

also strange that they got their hands on Abrams.. not something i expect anything but the US military to have in their arsenal, hell even japan/korea have their own tanks.

Last I checked it was a sign of respect, doesn't really matter to whom or the context but the gesture still stands.
