Back story on the statue one.
So when they said they were building that statue for William Wallace, the Scots were like, "oh sweet," but then they made the statue of Mel Gibson as William Wallace, so the Scots were all " **** that" and defaced the **** out of it.

How the heck did someone get my picture?! The pic with the foot and the trash can is one I took over 3 years ago in a bathroom at the library at my university. I still have the shoes I was wearing in that pic. I NEVER EVER POSTED THAT PICTURE OR UPLOADED IT ONLINE. The cellphone it was originally taken on is still in my possession. Thanks FJ I'm officially freaked out.

But mayne some pure coincidence, and that someone else took the same picture as you?

Anyway, it's probably just very freaky and NSA has the fault.

Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep and shes sleeping soundly therefore that is not irony
User avatar #62 to #60 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
...Actually, that would be irony if that were what insomnia was. If the book makes you think they're unable to fall asleep, and they fall asleep reading it, that's absolutely irony.

It's not irony because insomnia is not the inability to fall asleep.
#63 to #62 - WMDxVeLoCiTy (05/06/2014) [-]
in·som·ni·a
inˈsämnēə/
noun
habitual sleeplessness; inability to sleep.

<---------again
User avatar #66 to #63 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
"People with insomnia have one or more of the following symptoms:

Difficulty falling asleep, difficulty returning to sleep after waking prematurely, or difficulty falling asleep at appropriate times
Waking up often, too early in the morning, or mid sleep-cycle
Unrestfulness after waking, sometimes even after appropriate sleep; low quality of sleep,"

If you're trying to understand a medical condition, you want a medical dictionary, not a websters. Look up 'insomnia' on any medical website instead of in a dictionary and you'll get the same.
User avatar #67 to #66 - WMDxVeLoCiTy (05/06/2014) [-]
in short the inability to sleep, sure they can fall asleep or theyd be dead but most of the time its very challenging
User avatar #69 to #67 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
...No, it's not the inability to sleep in short. You would be dead if you were unable to sleep (minus a couple of people with very odd conditions where their bodies don't need sleep at all.) Insomnia is the inability to sleep properly, not the inability to fall asleep--and crashing to sleep in an airplane seat during broad daylight because you got awful sleep the night before is *exactly* what an insomniac would do.

You can have absolutely no problem getting to sleep and still have insomnia if you wake up frequently or don't enter deep enough sleep cycles to actually become rested as a result of your sleep. In fact, that's far more common than just not being able to GET to sleep.

You both are straying from the point.
User avatar #110 to #105 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
...What point were we supposed to be making? I wasn't aware this was a sponsored debate. I was under the impression that this was a conversation on the internet and that we could discuss anything we wanted to, but excuuuuuuse me for 'straying from the point.'

Do you walk up to people in real life who are talking and say 'No, you're straying from the point' when they're not having a conversation about what *you* want them to have a conversation about?
User avatar #112 to #110 - matttboyagain (05/06/2014) [-]
I was only trying to help but if I'd known you were going to be nasty to me I wouldn't have said anything.
User avatar #114 to #112 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
And yet, I have to imagine you know I'm going to continue to be nasty to you, and yet here you still are, responding to my comment *twice.*
User avatar #115 to #114 - matttboyagain (05/06/2014) [-]
Wow. How do you have any friends?
User avatar #116 to #115 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
Well, I can tell you that butting into other peoples' conversations and telling them how to have them is *not* how to make friends.

There are plenty of people who don't get their poor wittle fee-fee's hurt from someone being 'nasty' on the internet, and it's from those people that I choose my pool of friends.
User avatar #111 to #110 - matttboyagain (05/06/2014) [-]
I didn't ask for an attitude. I just wanted to point out what started the conversation so it could come full-circle. The person with the book on insomnia. Is that ironic or not?
User avatar #113 to #111 - penileburglar (05/06/2014) [-]
...The definition of insomnia was also part of my original point. Obviously, it was the one I cared more about, since it's what I chose to focus on.

No one needs your help to have a conversation, and you should expect attitude when you needlessly try to take control of other peoples' conversations--makes you look like a massive ass.

Helmet laws do suck. Not wearing a helmet is stupid. I wear a helmet, but do i think other people should be forced to? No. If they dont value their life enough thats their issue. More and more the governments are telling us what to eat, what to do, where to work.
User avatar #30 to #23 - mymommasallama (05/05/2014) [-]
a biker can also be stupid while wearing a helmet....
i once passed a guy going down the highway on a harley...it looked like he was messing with one of his mirrors or something. nope he was just texting while doing 70mph. i always give people on bikes plenty of space, but once i saw his shenanigans i put aloooot of distance between us.
User avatar #34 to #30 - carneymaster (05/06/2014) [-]
oh yeah most definately. I just dont like that there has to be a law for it. Its like those labels on products that you really really really shouldnt stick in your mouth. But there is a label for it regardless. "Do not injest". And its on borax. Who.. what... why?! Why does that exist?! Why do we have these rules and laws and **** for obvious stuff.
#36 to #23 - John Cena (05/06/2014) [-]
It's not as simple as that. Increased head injuries = more braindead or less cognitively aware people -> increased serious accidents requiring hospital care = increased healthcare costs
User avatar #56 to #36 - carneymaster (05/06/2014) [-]
There are options on insurance to pay more to ride without a helmet. In states that allow insurance companies to do that.
User avatar #141 to #23 - PubLandlord (05/06/2014) [-]
yeah but then you got to think how does that play out with insurance, if i hit you in a car accident and it's all my fault should my insurance company still have to cover your medical bills ?

Secondly if you live in a country like the UK where the healthcare isn't private a simple law like this will help reduce the costs of treating people who have injured themselves in a retarded way, freeing up money for other illnesses.

Thirdly with a law of no helmets it is more likely going to convince younger children and adults that it's fine and safe to ride without a helmet, you can use the ******** "natural selection" but at the end of the day no one actually wants more injured people.

User avatar #154 to #141 - carneymaster (05/06/2014) [-]
Well the us does helmet laws state by state for the purpose of the health insurance providers being able to give an option or not. That the UK health insurance is public would make sense for it cause it does effect everyone. In the states we have a choice between 4-5 providers who may require you to wear a helmet even if the law doesnt, or dont require you to but the law does. I prefer the first one. Because you choose that insurance. But in the UK they dont choose it so it effects everyone.
