Yea I agree with you on the whole Putin thing. I don't trust him for a single bit. Lousily allowing homosexuals to be brutally beaten and humiliated. There's so much wrong in Russia.

Not sure about Ukraine, though. I'm not well educated about the current state of Ukraine.
#125 to #40 - stalini (01/22/2014) [-]
I ******* hate you dumb retards.
"homosexual problem" is the least ******* problem of Russia. It's like the most irrelevant thing there, compared to other things and you mention only that. **** you
User avatar #136 to #125 - furrypuppy (01/22/2014) [-]
Calm your tits. I can say little about the other problems Russia is facing because frankly, literally nothing is told about it.

All we hear is about the anti-homosexual laws, thus we can only fret about that. I know Russia has massive other troubles, but I can't judge over that because there's no way for me to actually find out more about it.

Way to give the worst impression to people who care about the problems, man.
#137 to #136 - stalini (01/22/2014) [-]
"All we hear is about the anti-homosexual laws"

Exactly what I was talking about.
It's not even relevant. All they did was ban the homosexual parades and stuff like that on the streets.

"OMG HOW CAN I LIVE NOW, I CAN'T JUST HAVE HOMO SEX IN MY HOME, IM NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE IT TO THE STREETS, THIS IS EQUAL TO KILLING US"
User avatar #139 to #137 - furrypuppy (01/22/2014) [-]
Please calm your tits before making any further comments.

"All they did" considering homosexuals keep getting beat up by some ********* extremists, I'd consider it a bigger problem than just taking their rights to parade.

But enough about homosexuality, I'm genuinely interested to hear what the biggest problems are that Russia faces. You seem to know so much about the subject, and I clearly do not, so go ahead, enlighten me.

While it's not relevant to the topic, it's still relevant to the world. Russia (and some ex-USSR countries) are VERY racist and homophobic.

I agree with your view on putin, but I'll avoid commenting on the ukraine's political situation as I'm not entirely educated in that matter.
Putin seems like he's trying to rock the boat intentionally with his anti-homosexuality thing, Not to mention the entire North Korean slave labor gig.

So if anyone is actually interested in what's happening, here's what's going on.

1. It started quite a while ago, because the Ukraine had the possibly of joining the EU, and thus the majority of the people wanted that. The government however said **** your brahskiz and went to the Moscow rule. That sparked huge protests.

2. Police brutality is a huge problem in the country, so this is also a reaction to a fight that's been going on for years. One might say that they've poked the lion one too many times, and now it's pissed.

3. After the riots stopped last time, the government soon after pushed a law through, illegaly, that was also unconstitutional, that prohibited people to gather in large masses, and made protests illegal.

Combine those 3, and you have a country full of people who feel neglected by their own government, who feel they're losing their human rights, their rights as a people, and want to get their democracy back.

I have nothing but respect and support for the people of Ukraine. And yes it might seem violent, and you might think that it's not okay to attack the police, but you have to remember that it's a revolt. You don't overthrow your government in modern society by yelling bad words and holding up signs.
You might even call this_ the slavic spring_. jk

Maybe they should take a leaf from the Czech Republic and Slovakia in their revolution.
So free of violence, it is called the velvet revolution. And who doesn't like velvet?
User avatar #73 to #72 - iforgotmyothername (01/22/2014) [-]
Well seeing as the Ukranian government is going full North Korea on their citizens, and illegalized protests with punishment of up to 15 years in prison, i doubt any peaceful protest would work.
User avatar #75 to #73 - Loppytaffy (01/22/2014) [-]

I know about the velvet revolution, but that was in 1989. Any peaceful protests in modern society, the government just brushes off as minor inconvieniences.

Nothing about your sentence makes sense. UE = Union Europe? You mean EU i assume? Also, you can't maintain good relations with both the European Union and Moscow, because they have different trade laws and deals, which null each other. Putin offered $16B to fix the Ukrainian economy, but the corrupt government isn't gonna use it on their people.

Also, EU, socialist? What are you, 12?

unconstitutional? Does that actually apply in the Ukraine?

No i meant constituion. Just looked it up. What's your point?
#86 to #85 - ryendan (01/22/2014) [-]
Didn't mean that in a dickish manner was asking seriously as in I was unaware that the Ukraine had a constitution.
User avatar #87 to #86 - iforgotmyothername (01/22/2014) [-]
I think we're misunderstanding each other, i didn't mean it in an angry way either, i just didn't understand. All countries in Europe, be they under Moscow or Union rule, have a constituion.
#88 to #87 - ryendan (01/22/2014) [-]
I knew you actually didn't, just wanted to clarify mine wasn't meant that way. That's actually interesting I thought a constitution was more just an american thing and other countries called their base laws something different.
User avatar #89 to #88 - iforgotmyothername (01/22/2014) [-]
Well they used to be called baselaws/groundlaw/Basic Law, but since the states became superpower the new generations started saying constitution, so now that word is valid as well.
#90 to #89 - ryendan (01/22/2014) [-]
Ah so I just wasn't aware that they changed the wording of it to reflect the US. That actually seems kind of silly to have done but I guess it was done more than likely to eliminate confusion on things
User avatar #91 to #90 - iforgotmyothername (01/22/2014) [-]
Well the word constition is just a word that describes the exact same as the others do, so i don't see why it shouldn't be used. Try googling "base law of the united kingdom" and the first page will be "constitution of the united kingdom"
User avatar #92 to #91 - iforgotmyothername (01/22/2014) [-]

I don't mind that they're violent provided they have a justification for it, but vandalism (even if it's not that much of a thing it still is) is kind of different.
User avatar #64 to #59 - iforgotmyothername (01/22/2014) [-]
It's easy to say you don't think vandalism is cool because they're destroying the city, but that's because you're not thinking it through. How are they supposed to scare the government? Do you think the government gives 2 ***** about a dozen cops getting hurt, or do you think they care about paying millions to clean off their government buildings? There's a reason this isn't like the London riots where they just smash and steal, this is going on near parlament, city hall, government buildings. It's political vandalism justified by their fight for democracy, which if you ask me, is more than okay.

Both sides are bad but the police has restrictions.
Catapult/Molotov/Fireworks/etc > Batons/Punches/etc

In America they would have showered them with ruber bullets etc.
#150 to #52 - fargtwo (01/22/2014) [-]
Uh, no they don't as of a few days ago.
The protest has never exactly been peaceful, but it's always been entirely justified. The government is corrupt beyond your wildest dreams and the people know it and they want change. The police in Ukraine is a ******* joke and is almost as corrupt as the government.
#113 to #52 - anon (01/22/2014) [-]

South Korean riot police. Served from late 2009-2011. One of the biggest protest I was involved with was the SsangYong Car riots. Look it up on google to see what it looks like. You can actually see a picture of two riot policemen on fire from a molotov one of the rioters threw. It wasn't just molotovs, they had slingshots, homemade mortars and etc...

Oh and the funny part? The media started blaming us for police protest, not giving two ***** about injured or crippled officers.

Debris and regular(?) projectiles I guess? Yes. Not firebombs though....Oh...no.

The shields that we had were relatively new, that replaced the old shields. I hear now the boys actually got new better armor and shields in the South Korean riot police.

I remember hearing from some of my seniors that the early shields they had in early 2000s couldn't even stop nailgun projectiles and one guy went blind because of some crazy ****** with a nail gun.

User avatar #182 to #157 - wooyoungkim (01/22/2014) [-]
Can't say off my head but I say including small to big ones, 30-40. This is including us just being called to provide protection and etc. Actual riots, not so much. Less than 10. Things have gotten real better since early 2000s. However, its 99% the labor workers who do the most intense protests. These guys bring in nail guns, slingshots, molotov and even homemade mortars.

The worst one I've been is one of the first riots I've been sent to. The SsangYong motors riot. These guys were holed up ontop container boxes throwing molotovs and rocks. When we tried to arrest them, they pushed us off and etc. Many of us got injured.
