Many view gay marriage to change the fabric of society just as the main difference between a bra and bikini top is often just a change of fabric.

To everyone saying they aren't the same: You may be right, but only technically, and for very superficial reasons. Just like the perceived differences between hetero/homo marriage. At the end of the day, both items achieve the same goal: protecting and supporting the ones you love.

Do I think I gays should be allowed to marry? Yes.
But I also think gays should shut the **** up about being gay. "We just want to be treated like normal people." Then stop dressing in incredibly flamboyant clothing and marching through the streets. I don't go walk down the street grinding and dry humping every girl I see, so you and your boyfriend don't need to wear leopard skin shirts and short-shorts while sucking on dick shaped lollipops. It sickens me how now-a-days people get put on a pedestal for being gay. Some football player comes out of the closet and the president calls him and tells him he's a hero. So then what are the firemen? Or police, or soldiers or anyone else who endangers themselves everyday for others? Are they just regular people? I think gays should be treated as equals, and to do that we need to take them off of this social high horse.

Idk... sometimes I think that, if a guy just wants to oversexualize himself because he likes it, im ok with that. The only problem is this 'trend' thing involving being gay. It's like stoners that make their whole personalities float around 420. Its just plain retarded

I hope don't you mean gay pride marchers. I don't see anything wrong with those. But walking down a street putting your sexuality on display doesn't help anyone, I agree with that.

I feel that Gay Pride marches should have a different name, but I don't have too much of a problem with them, unless they have little kids dressed flamboyantly. I'm talking about gay people who will for no reason act like a super diva and dress in so many different shiny colors that it looks like they took a shower in rainbow jizz.

That doesn't mean one serves as a fork or knife. The point of it is that there is no chopstick. Just because one prefers to be the holder/grabber, doesn't mean it has ambitions to be other cutlery.

Since everyone else (including the president) is treating gay people like golden angels, I refuse to believe that they're the same.

Think I'm joking? A mediocre football player got drafted no earlier than the second/third round, who also happens to be gay, got a phone from Obama congratulating him on his bravery. So if gays are so different then their marriage should be too. In all honesty, I don't give a **** . But, because of how superficial the world is, no, they're not the same.
User avatar #74 to #13 - jakefenris (07/30/2014) [-]
Fifty years ago it would have been an outrage for the president to congratulate the first black football player to make it into the major leagues.
User avatar #85 to #74 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
And now the president is black. But the difference is people are considerate of everyone now, except a few people. So now, everyone has to make a huge deal about people like this to prove a point. But, if you really gave a **** about the gays, you wouldn't bring it up. When Jackie Robinson was playing, black people were abused, spat on, and called racial slurs in public, and no one gave a **** . Now if you call a gay person a fag or homo or even just gay in some cases, you'll be beaten, or spat on. Yes, times of change, but that's the point now. No one cares what your prefences are, but people act like you do. The first Australian player just got signed in the NHL, but no one gives a **** . Why? Because no one thinks that they're "oppressed". Gays aren't oppressed, so why should I give a **** ?
User avatar #88 to #85 - jakefenris (07/30/2014) [-]
There is still a huge gap between same-sex and opposite-sex couples, in most states people can be fired for being gay. Religious institutions and right-wingers are attacking people for their orientation and trying to use religion as a reason to prohibit them from accessing basic rights. The biggest reason gay teen suicide is so high is because of all the negative imagery and attacks on LGBT people. Just because black people no longer have to sit at the back of the bus doesn't mean people aren't still incredibly racist and biased. Until LGBT people cannot be fired simply for being gay, or forbidden from marrying or walking down the street without getting jumped, they will still be and are oppressed.
User avatar #94 to #88 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
Here's the thing, black people didn't suicide or do things gays do now to "prove a point" or hold parades (if you can even call it that. It's more like soft-core porn). You know what they did? They buckled down, held their own, and advanced. Gay people are too influenced by places like Tumblr and such that support it to a point of suicide. And suicide should never be the answer, unless the question is "What's it called when you kill yourself?". Gay people now aren't looking for progress or anything else. Gay people are looking for the world to be given to them because they are "different" or "special". If I wore a thong and started flailing my dick around, I'd be arrested. But oh no, you can't arrest a gay for that because you're oppressing them and challenging their ideals. Which brings me back to my original point: People give too much of a **** about gay people. If they were normal, like everyone else, no one would care.
User avatar #103 to #94 - jakefenris (07/30/2014) [-]
There is a big difference between an internet gay and a Stonewall gay. There are very professional people, who dress respectably and who fight as the original advocates did. I agree in most cases the parades are a disgraceful and pathetic display. And I am unimpressed with many youth gay clubs who's primary focus is sex and alcohol instead of fighting to bring light to many issues people face.

Too many young gay people are, people who are gay who happen to like other stuff, instead of being people who happen to be gay. No suicide is not the answer, but when everyone from the school system, to fellow students, religious officials, politicians, are telling kids its sick and wrong to be gay, and that they're broken, I can see why it would start to wear down on them. Take a look at the trevor project.
User avatar #105 to #103 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
If I can tell someone is gay without them opening their mouth, those are the people I'm refering to. If you need to make a point of being gay, then you're not helping **** . All you're doing is enforcing stereotypes and proving that (some) gay people are doing **** just for attention and not because of personal life decisions. Like people who are vegan so they can just prounce around acting like they're superior.

If you're talking about Michael Sam, he was actually drafted in the last round of the draft. Much lower than I believe he should have gone. Before coming out, he was named defensive player of the year in what is arguably the best conference in college football along with being named an all-american. If anything, his ranking dropped because no team wanted to draft a gay athlete. Get your facts straight before making accusations.

He won SEC defensive player of the year this past season and put up some pretty good numbers considering the offensive powerhouses he was playing against in the conference.
User avatar #121 to #116 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
Even still, he was never projected to go that high in th draft. For example, in the NHL draft, players with 100+ points in about 50-60 games didn't even go top 10. Playing well in the minors doesn't make you proven. Look at that list. Do any of those names shine out? No. They don't. None of those guys are HUGE NFL players.
User avatar #122 to #121 - hipickausername (07/30/2014) [-]
I never said that. He just deserved to go higher than the last round with such an impressive pedigree.
User avatar #125 to #122 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
That's common. It happens a lot. Connor Brown got drafted 6th round by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was over a point a game, then got the OHL player of the year. The Heisman (I think that's right) trophy winner has played in the CFL I think 5-8 times. This trophy has also gone to people like Tim Tebow. People who win stuff in college don't normally bring it to the NFL. Best example:Johnny Manziel. He was supposed God-Tier, and now the browns want to trade him because he's not performing well. Michael Sam's skills probably won't transfer to the NFL for at least a couple years.
User avatar #112 to #111 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
He was top defensive player in high school, not university. Also, he was a decently low rated player in uni. He's alright and nothing secial.
#30 to #13 - anon (07/30/2014) [-]
Firstly, I doubt that the football player in question requested a personal phone call from Obama. Like that, gay people can't control what the media says about them, and it's a nice change from the past few hundred years of oppression.

Secondly, depending on where the kid's from, it does have a certain form of bravery for it. Plenty of gay people drop sports from school because they're either bullied off the team when they come out or they quit because they're terrified they'll get found out. Obviously, this varies hugely from area to area, but it's a factor.

You seem to want to punish gay people for the way the media, something they have little to no control over, portrays them. Why is that?
User avatar #52 to #30 - buttholee ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
I don't want them punished, I want them to be treated literally the same. No "Look at this gay couple walking together", I want it so people don't give a **** about gay people, the same way no one gives a **** about straight people. It doesn't matter.
