"Twitch plays pokemon", was originally a social experiment, and as such, I think we have learned great deal out of it.
Allow me to explain: The Basic Setup
>The players knew their goal, it was simple, and pretty much common knowledge
>They knew what actions they should and shouldn't do to achieve it
>We could say, that they knew what is Right and what is Wrong to do in the game (implying they want to win the game)
Now this is where it get's interesting:
>The people start to work toward their common goal. Of course there are disagreements, but they generally want to reach that common goal.
>But right away there are people, who are halting the progress of the others.
I'm not talking about those who don't exactly know how to win the game, or pick the wrong decisions or give commands in the wrong time, etc.
They are in on it as well, but I'm mostly talking about those who do it deliberately, who just want to cause all the others discomfort or even failure
*What do people do?*
>Trough coincidence, the inventory is opened up multiple times, and the Helix Fossil was chosen for use.
>It doesn't seem to have ANY effect but it keeps happening
>People start to talk, one thing follows another, and they start to praise Helix
Started as a joke, evolved by the creativity of others, a sort of religion was born. It was still a joke for many, but players kept mentioning it. It gave a name for a common purpose, a symbol to not give in, and keep going on.
This in itself would be interesting enough, but a series of events have stirred things up.
>Accidentally the Helix Fossil get's stored in the PC
>Two pokemon, including the starter Charmaleon get's released
>Eevee gets evolved into Flareon, despite the fact thet they need a Vaporeon to progress
No more holy grail, to turn to, two object of high importance lost , and finally an invaluable object, necessary to progress, have been misshaped so to say corrupted
One thing follow after another, and with the disappearence of Helix, new developments show:
>Some people get new object for their praise: the S.S.Ticket
>Most people however (or just the louder ones) start to blame Flareon, painting as an antichrist, and desperatley try to recover Helix
After a long time, knowing what they want, the players recover, and evolve Helix, later on winning the game
I mostly stated facts (as far as I know). I am trying to show you the pattern I've seen, but you have make your own conclusions. Please add them in the comm.
