Playing Dead Space 2 on Hard Core mode.
You can save 3 times and don't get any checkpoints.

hey now, don't knock the fable hero saves, thats how you get multiple mana augments even though there is only one in the game, so you can make your frying pan of infinite mana

Hero saves is a game breaker

I look at it like a win/lose situation rather then a lose/lose situation.

Yes I have to walk to where I was, but on the upside, I didn't have to backtrack to save.

Why is it a problem with Borderlands? Most of the maps are pretty small. I feel like if you could just load in wherever, there would be a lot of potential for even more exploitation.
#64 to #39 - jamiemsm ONLINE (07/23/2014) [-]
it sucks when you forget it in borderlands 2.
you are in the first map where flynt is at the end. its playthrough 3 and you dont have any good gear for it yet. you fight for what seems like an eternity. you need a break and save after 1 hour. after break you go in again. 1hour before wasted
User avatar #65 to #64 - yunogasaii (07/23/2014) [-]
I've never had that problem because by UVHM I either kill everything quickly or I don't stop until I get to the next area

Bonfires are checkpoints. You can quit the game whenever you want and spawn back in the same spot.
User avatar #92 to #53 - capslockrage (07/23/2014) [-]
But when you die that is where you go, the true nature of a checkpoint.

How dare you use that picture, ******* imbecile.
#28 to #6 - thatonesouthernkid (07/23/2014) [-]
****** , darksouls has an autosave function. you can quit the game before a bonfire.
User avatar #84 to #28 - adu (07/23/2014) [-]
It depends on how you look at it. In Dark Souls, the bonfires are the only save points in the sense that they're the only things you can go back to when you die.
You can quit whenever and stay where you left off, but it works on autosave and autosaves quite frequently. There are no previous saves, so they're not really there to "save" you like most conventional saves. If you **** up, you're ****** .
User avatar #96 to #84 - thatonesouthernkid (07/23/2014) [-]
i think thatguybehindyou put it rather well, bonfires are something more of a checkpoint rather than a save point.

User avatar #51 to #47 - nintendolover (07/23/2014) [-]
1.You can save anywhere and start from exactly that spot again.
2.When you die, the game sends you back to the last town visited with just 1HP left. No experience is lost.

I actually don't really like this in very many games. Saving in any situation in a platformer or shooter makes it really easy to brute force a game without really learning how to play the game well.

Most people think that replaying sections of a game is an inherently bad punishment, and that can be true if the sections take an hour to get through, but do you have any idea how easy the last couple levels of a Mario game would be if they let you save after every single jump? Or how easy Doom is when you can save after every single enemy?

I've tried that with save states on roms and it takes the fun out of the game, because you don't take the time to get good at any particular obstacle; you mostly just get lucky at each individual step of a level. I couldn't consistently repeat any of the difficult jumps I made in Mario, and that's because there was no real skill involved in saving after every obstacle. I was only succeeding through sheer odds after throwing myself at an obstacle and saving every time I got lucky.

Though I agree, I must say this.
You no like it, you no do it.

I play my shooters with one save per 3 hour intervals.

it makes the game a **** ton harder. but i look at a game as an actual situation. so if i die i look at how it happened and i work harder to stop that spacific thing from happening again.

Played Mount an blade like that and i got my own kingdom my army was set and i felt good about where i was at and then the Nords attacked and i was utterly ****** . 430 of my finest archers and footman held the 3,500 Nords-everylord for 3weeks.

it made it more emotionally satisfying when the lords ran out of food and had to leave. after losing 96 soldiers every round it was like Jesus himself came and died for my sins to let my kingdom survive one more day. me and 10 archers lived to build a magnificent Swed army to repel the invaders. Day 925 lvl 54 2 towns 5 forts 7 villages vs the entire map.

Is Xenoblade worth picking up? I wanted to play it for a while before it was translated and all, but never got around to getting it Well I did get it but it wouldn't work with my wii because it was broken apparently and now it's like $90 for a used copy.

Depends, what exactly do you look for in a game?
User avatar #100 to #83 - nommonsterbaa (07/23/2014) [-]
I like any RPG with a lot to do and work for, leveling up and quests. Something that'll be fun to play for a long time rather than play with for a bit, then put down because I've done everything there is to do.
User avatar #101 to #100 - swordmasterralis (07/23/2014) [-]

Oh yeah, You'd like Xenoblade Chronicles. The world of the game is huge and there's SO many quests to do and things to see.
I dont know much about how the other games in the series plays, but Xenoblade would be good.

Ah, yes.

Long live the SNES days.

I miss that kind of excitement you get as you get further into a game where you can't save, or that sense of accomplishment when getting through the tough parts.
