A recent incident in Australia may serve as a reminder to be careful about what you post online.

A family in Sydney found out the hard way after a 17-year-old girl posted a picture of cash on her Facebook page.

Maybe she was just showing off for her friends, but the picture also got the interest of two bad guys.

They reportedly showed up at the home of the girl's mother, busted in, and started asking about the "girl with the cash."

When mom told them that her daughter had, in fact, moved out, the guys rummaged around the house, stole some money and other items, and took off.

For the people fighting and bitching in the comments saying "he didn't deserve it. Would you say the same thing to a rape victim? "

You can replace money, you can't replace your body.

This guy's an idiot. Yes he pretty much did ask for it. Deal with it.

virgins bodies are ruined and i dont think getting your money stolen has a chance of psychological effects and if it does cause any it will be pretty damned temporary. i dont even know why people would compare the two, rape is always gonna be worse. if i saw a guy sitting with 25000 dollars in his lap taking picture for more then 5 seconds then ya id think a few times about stealing it.
#55 to #47 - Sataria (02/02/2014) [-]
To a lot of rape victims they feel disgusting and like their body is ruined. Unforchantly a lot of people actually do find rape victims "less desirable" (for lack of a better word). Your body it's self may not be changed but your mind set will be, and life won't ever be the same.

Cut's will heal and so will bruises, money can be replaced but you can never get your virginity back or take back that someone just used your body for their own gain.

I actually want to give everyone a scenario: Someone you love if you hate everyone, just use yourself the person who you care for most on this planet, they are kidnapped and you have a choice. You can either pay $25 000 and the one you love is let go, no harm done and everything is fine OR they have to unwillingly be raped. They get no say in the matter, their body just get's defiled.

What would you choose? I bet some of you are going to choose let them get raped just to try and shut me up

His point was that regardless of what was flaunted, the same basic principle applies.
Put another way, if it is wrong to steal a piece of candy, it is also wrong to steal precious diamonds. The diamond's value doesn't suddenly make stealing wrong, and the piece of candy's lack of value doesn't make stealing right.

1. He is an idiot for making himself a target
2. He is an ass for bragging about his wealth
3. He is pathetic for squandering his wealth and for trying to seek pity from the same people he bragged to earlier

User avatar #34 to #12 - noblexfenrir (02/02/2014) [-]
Are you a goddamn moron?

At most, and this is really a ******* stretch, he should be upset with himself for having it out so openly. But in no goddamn way did he deserve to be robbed, are you implying that if I see someone take their wallet out and I see some of their cash when they're pulling out some bills, they therefor deserved to be robbed by me because they flaunted their cash?

1.) Sure whatever, he can be an idiot. Most people are on one occasion or another.

2.) Who gives a **** ? It's his money. He should be able to do anything he wants with it.

3.) Again, his money, he can do as he pleases with it, and the people that were interested in his message beforehand most likely give a **** about him in some fashion and so they would obviously be the best group to look for sympathy from.

Word of advice: Stop being a ******* moron, it was wrong that he was robbed regardless. Was he stupid? Yeah, but you don't sit there and justify the crime due to the idiocy of the victim.
User avatar #39 to #34 - Yojimbo (02/02/2014) [-]
I'm implying that if some guy is walking down the street, bragging loudly to everyone about how much money he has on him, and then walks down an alley, gets robbed, and then comes back out and expects pity and attention from all the same people he just bragged to that he does deserve to get robbed. I'll flat out say that.

1. I love the "everyone makes mistakes" argument, so easy to justify anything anyone does. So Hitler did some bad things, who hasn't?

2. Apparently you do. Apparently I do. You are vehemently coming to this strangers defense just like I'm arguing against him. Apparently we both care about the comings and goings of Joe Nobody's wealth
3. It's still hypocritical, and I reserve my right to judge him for it. And the very fact that he is looking for sympathy is still pathetic. It is. To brag to everyone and then turn around and expect them to feel bad for you is sad. Plain and simple.

I do just sit here and justify the crime. Because I can. The law may see it as wrong but I see it as him getting his just desserts.

1.Shes an idiot for making herself a target of rape.
2.She is an ass for displaying her body
3.She is pathetic for exhibiting her body then trying to seek pity even though she was asking for it.

Doesn't sound so acceptable now does it? It's just as wrong to say someone was asking to get mugged as it is to say they were asking to get raped.

User avatar #19 to #17 - komandantmirkoo (02/01/2014) [-]
you're ******* stupid. you can't even compare that. that would make sense if your hypothetical woman was walking around naked covered in maple syrup, because that's basically how this guy looked with 25k on his seat.
User avatar #20 to #19 - lazypaul (02/01/2014) [-]
So are you saying that it is a rape victims fault if she was walking around covered in maple syrup?

Of course it isn't. My point is that even though both things are incredibly stupid to do none of them were asking for it and it's not ok to laugh at a victim of a mugging and say it was his fault.
User avatar #23 to #20 - komandantmirkoo (02/01/2014) [-]
answer me this. what are the chances that he was going to get targeted if the muggers didn't see the $25000 on his passenger seat? the only reason he did get mugged is because he was an idiot. nobody likes saying that people get targeted because of certain things but it's the ******* truth and there is no was to go around that. a rapist will more likely rape a woman in a short skirt rather than a more dressed one. same goes for muggings. you don't see homeless peope getting mugged.
#22 to #17 - anon (02/01/2014) [-]
I agree. same applies for both
User avatar #35 to #17 - Yojimbo (02/02/2014) [-]
I would argue that you're trying to compare apples and oranges.
#122 to #17 - anon (02/07/2014) [-]
Its the difference of "asking to get robbed" and making oneself more of a possible target. in this posts case, bragging and flaunting your wealth will make you more of a target. same goes for some ( i say some because we all know that we are all different, and not all of us can dress to impress and look like a million bucks ) woman that will dress in a provocative manner and look more appealing than others in a rapists eyes. Its none of this "asking for it" bull, its all just making yourself more of a target.
#25 to #17 - anon (02/01/2014) [-]
hey man if some bitch is walking around naked, with a neon arrow sign flashing at her love cave screaming "I WANT SUM **** " and grabbing at dudes dicks then that isn't rape.

i mean, waving around $500 or so i could see your analogy working but the way it be, your analogy is better suited to some whore spreading her cooch, winking and saying "c'mon boys, i'm easy"
User avatar #27 to #25 - lazypaul (02/01/2014) [-]
In the situation you described she asked for sex so it isn't rape. The guy in the pic never asked to get mugged.
#29 to #27 - anon (02/01/2014) [-]
yeah he did, if you have a stack of money and you throw it off a building and run downstairs to pick it up and other people have picked it up already and they are gone then are they thieves?

and she didn't ask for sex from anyone specific and she is charging them with rape just afterwards i made it up so my rules.
#26 to #25 - anon (02/01/2014) [-]
in both of those cases, if we didn't live in a female dominated society, she would be guilty of sexual assault or abuse or something.

as it stands, a woman could probably call that her right to express herself and get away with it.

There is a difference between bragging and being proud of something. You can usually tell by what people write which they are trying to convey. For instance, a proud person would say "$25,000. It took me 3 years of hard work but I finally have enough to buy that x that I want."

A braggart would say "I love ben franklins 25,000 on top of my pants because I can" and take a pic including all his gold jewelry. I doubt he believed it to be the greatest thing that could have happened, but now he hopefully knows the most likely thing that could happen when you take a pic like that.

And if you get upset over people judging others over the internet, you've come to the wrong place my friend.
