One time i was going to sleep and i thought to myself "Maybe god doesn't talk to us these days because we keep killing each other in his name and he was mad at us for being such dicks" and suddenly i felt the word "yes" vibrate throughout my entire body, like every cell was vibrating to form the single world shaking its way straight into my brain, sounding like the gentlest whisper, that could shake an entire mountain. Then i snapped straight up and i wasn't sure if that was a dream or not, and i decided to stop being agnostic and went back to being Christian.

I used to be an atheist. However I found much of my life has been a timeline of events leading to me to certain areas of my life where I had nothing but Him to turn People who say that God never speaks to them is upsets me. Mainly because it's not that He isn't, it's just that they can't or won't hear. Many people oppose my faith and say I'm "stupid" or "wrong" but I only have one thing to say in my defense. Even if I'm wrong, I got nothing to lose. But if you're wrong, you certainly do.

People actually belive **** like this...? Do you not understand that there is a border between fiction and reality? Dude no one can magically "whisper" to you, this isn't ******* World of Warcraft. I've had crazy dreams before too, but they are just that; dreams... How can people be so quick to decide that "Ok, something happened that i can't really explain, and i happened to be thinking of something closely related to god at the time, therefore, it had to be a message somehow sent from god". No i'm not sorry, your beliefs are retarded. We live in the 21th century...

Seeing is believing my darling. You cant truly judge something unless youve expirienced the exact thing yourself.
User avatar #79 to #72 - drekinn (10/21/2013) [-]
bad example, i don't have to see infrared to know it exists. seeing is not always believing, that's literally what illusionists depend on.
#83 to #79 - tinypoodle (10/21/2013) [-]
Eh fair enough. But you get my point.
User avatar #88 to #83 - drekinn (10/21/2013) [-]
i get your point but i disagree with it, experience does not equal reality, people with psychosis might see Jesus, does not mean Jesus exists. we should always think critically, even of peoples experience.
#91 to #88 - tinypoodle (10/21/2013) [-]
Of course, i just mean in this instance, anon was very upset as to how someone could belive that and i was attempting to explain how they could.

#81 to #72 - anon (10/21/2013) [-]
What about optical illusions. They are there to trick how your brain perceives things. So therefore, seeing is not really believing.
User avatar #58 to #29 - onkii (10/21/2013) [-]
Yeah I recently had a moment very similar. I've been seeing signs. Subtle ones, yes, but they are there. I've been a firm atheist for about 5 or 6 years now but not too long ago I switched back to being Catholic.
User avatar #98 to #58 - alexusapi (10/21/2013) [-]
could you explain further? how did those "signs" convince you that Catholicism is true?
User avatar #109 to #98 - onkii (10/21/2013) [-]
It's not really something I can explain clearly. It's really more of an internal discovery within myself; that's where the signs lay. Honestly I would explain them to you if I could but I can't come up with the words to describe them.
User avatar #114 to #109 - drekinn (10/22/2013) [-]
hehe fair enough, but you must see how that's not very convincing to others? you can believe what you believe, that's absolutely fine, i'm just trying to understand where you're coming from. I've had weird experiences but i didn't interpret them as any religious message, that would just be a irrational conclusion, you may have felt something but why do you interpret it the way you do, and are you open to the possibility that it might have been something brain wise messing with you? it happens to a lot of people and can be explained scientifically.
User avatar #117 to #114 - onkii (10/22/2013) [-]
I'm not trying to convince others of what I believe, because I know people are going to usually stick to their own opinions, and that is okay. You might be right about being able to prove my thoughts and feelings by using science, and that would be okay too. In the end it won't be hurting me or anybody else. Death is death.
I wouldn't consider myself to be a naive individual who goes out and randomly follows beliefs or ideas without heavily thinking about them first, so trust me I've weighed all the possibilities and I believe most possibilities could be true. I'm not saying Catholicism is the one, true and only way to find god, of course not. For all I know we could come from Zeus or Ra or even be headed to a place as vague as Sheol. This has just felt right for me, so that is what I will be doing.
User avatar #119 to #117 - drekinn (10/22/2013) [-]

Actually god says that he will destroy the earth again with fire. Not water. Then a city will come down from heaven, and jesus will live here with his people for 1,000 years before ascending to heaven.

If i remember right. Pretty sure...No god's not part of the fire nation. Or water tribe.

It's like what we as Christians are supposed to go through. The baptism by water(cleansing the spirit) and then by fire(making it a holy spirit). It's symbolism for the purification of the earth.

he is also more powerful than we can ever begin to understand, and people still claim they know what god's will is. even if the bible was the exact word of god, it would be far beyond most humans to understand exactly what was meant.

You're right. That's why there's an Old Testament and a New Testament. Because he never, ever changes his mind about anything.
#48 to #21 - anon (10/21/2013) [-]
Most of the Old Testament was rules that the Jewish people were suppose to follow to keep the raise pure for when Jesus came. Now that Jesus already came and went we don't need to follow those laws anymore.
#46 to #21 - anon (10/21/2013) [-]
Aaaaand the new testament keeps the laws of the old testament, but instead offers salvation through Christ rather than a sacrifice with a high priest every time you screw up. Same basic principle in both: "Don't be an asshole."

#85 - beren (10/21/2013) [-]
Because this logic is totally legit. Come on, OP. Just because people are born a certain way does not mean that God endorses their actions.

inb4 "ZOMG but homosexuals don't hurt other ppl!!!!!!" It's a critique of the logic, not a declaration that all gays are as bad as serial killers. Same reason why people use Hitler as an example. It's about the logic itself, not the examples.

"If God Could See Us Now" - implying he hasn't seen us do the exact same horrible things for the entirety of human history. As the anon said in comment 23, this is just a way that people who believe that sort of thing can justify their beliefs. I don't like this comic because it is extremely manipulative, and puts their words into the mouth of God, when in the end it's merely opinion or faith whether one believes gays are born as such or the Bible is too old.
#7 - anon (10/21/2013) [-]
I was on board the whole time save for the argument of using the document's age as a mark against it. The age of a document does not discredit the legitimacy of the writings.

"Play nice" - Me

No but seriously, take the Bible with a grain of salt. Some old **** with a crown changed the Bible just so he could divorce his wife, I'm pretty sure mankind has changed the bible plenty since it was written to better control others.

If the Bible was really written by some omnipotent being, the initial script is probably in broken pieces. I'm pretty sure this comic is not far from that being's imagination. Be kind to each other. Nobody is perfect and everyone is a dick at some point, just try to make the best of it.
#84 to #60 - verby ONLINE (10/21/2013) [-]

User avatar #99 to #60 - Furubatsu (10/21/2013) [-]
That's pretty much my thoughts on the bible.

If my English class has taught me one thing, you can read 70 different meanings from one paragraph of Of mice and men, of course people are gonna read what they want in the human manual.

And then people have to remember that the bible was written in Hebrew, then Greek, then Latin and then every other known language in the world. Of course things are gonna get lost and/or corrupted in translation. Not to mention I doubt with a book that powerful there wasn't some powerful figurehead breathing down the scribes neck, telling them to make some alterations to certain things.

I mean, my mother used to go to mass where it was held 100% in Latin, she had n clue what the priest or anyone else was saying (he'd say a special phase and the entire church would reply in Latin) so sometimes translations are needed to get the word across, but I do think the general thing people should walk away from the bible with is "love thy neighbour" and anything within that tone.

In reality Abraham just sat on his ass and God came down and said:
"Thou shan't dick about others busniess Abe," and then left and now we have a brick made out of paper that people have beaten each other to death over/with for millenia.
Comment written with humoristic intent and not to be taken all that seriously, it's motly a parody, if I knew what parody is

User avatar #106 to #41 - quadrilateral (10/21/2013) [-]
Well, there are many reasons. One might receive what they feel to be a sign of god, and believe it, they may have been raised into it, or it may have simply made the most sense to them.

User avatar #59 to #41 - mitchr (10/21/2013) [-]
Eh, it's just how some people are raised.

I don't care if people are Christian, or Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh but that last one is because Sikhism is badass , whatever. So long as they are polite, can hold an intelligent discussion, and don't try to force their beliefs upon those who don't want them, I'm fine.
Yes, I am aware that spreading of the faith is a major part of every religion. That's changed now, in the modern day, I believe. Everyone knows about Christianity; they'll turn to it if they are in a spiritual crisis. Otherwise, they probably won't.

Christians say that babies, young children and other people who can't understand "The Word" pretty much get a free pass into Heaven, right?
So why would they be so against abortion?
Wouldn't the mother pretty much be doing them a favor by sending them there?

inb4 someone more versed in scripture than I comes and totally blows away my argument.

Not all christians believe this. Some believe that you have to be baptized, and saved before you enter into heaven. Which is true except i am not 100% sure about baptism. I'm like 80% sure baptism is just part of acceptance of Christ. But God also says that he knew us before we entered into the womb. So...I think it's murder on the people who perform the abortion, and get the abortion. They are giving themselves a one way ticket out of here. The baby though...i'm not sure...I guess we'll find out when we die.
