regan used to tell this all the time.
a russian dog, an american dog, and a polish dog are conversing about their countries.
the american dog says first, "You know, if I bark long enough, someone will come around and give me meat"
the polish dog responds "What's meat?"
the russian dogs says " What's Bark?"

#56 to #39 - anon (11/12/2013) [-]
It's a joke about men, represented as dogs: polish people didn't have food while russians weren't allowed to speak freely (due to communism).
User avatar #82 to #56 - wliia (11/12/2013) [-]
Oh. I guess I completely misunderstood the joke then. I thought the dog was saying that because there's litterally no bark in russia because it's so cold and there's no trees.

I still laughed

Money spent on foreign aid last year:
United States – $30.46 billion
United Kingdom – $13.66 billion
Germany – $13.11 billion
France – $12.00 billion
Japan – $10.49 billion

Yup, don't care.

well the netherlands is pretty rich compared to other countries...., pretty complicated health care system, i live there and have no idea how it works.

not directly vikings but i'm sure if you go back a little there's some blood mixed in there..
dutch people don't eat englishman ...but one time a few hundred years ago we weren't happy how **** was done so we ate the prime minister.

And the turkish and marokkan people are slowly taking over here...
User avatar #100 to #99 - hudis (11/12/2013) [-]
Foreign people aren't really taking over any of the Scandinavian countries, tbh. I'm assuming you are joking, but it's an issue when people speak of it that way regardless.

We also don't share the same history, the saxons and vikings do look a like though.
#65 to #44 - therealsupanova (11/12/2013) [-]
% GDP doesn't translate to more money though.. If i was a poor foreign nation I'd rather have 30.46 billion over ".99%" of the swedish GDP which equates to a mere fraction of 30.46 billion...

Thats like saying you're giving away food and I can give you 100 units, which is 1% of my total unit output. But this other guy can give you 2 units, but thats 20% of his total output. Yeah that's a nice sentiment but at the end of the day no one gives a **** because if you go with good guy number 2, 98 more people go hungry
#71 to #65 - anon (11/12/2013) [-]
But it still doesn't mean you care opposed to Sweden...
#103 to #71 - therealsupanova (11/12/2013) [-]
what a sweet sentiment. I'd rather have results than a get well soon card.
#72 to #65 - anon (11/12/2013) [-]
You do know a ******* of that money is because we blew up the country we're sending the money to first right?
#84 to #44 - anon (11/12/2013) [-]
I really don't think those countries getting aid really care how much of the GDP percentage the country gave, i'm sure they'd rather have the 0.19% GDP from the US than 0.99% from Sweden.
User avatar #93 to #84 - hudis (11/12/2013) [-]
I don't think it's about whether other countries care or not, it's about what share of your total GDP you choose to spend on foreign aid so it's more a matter of principle and priorities rather than how much money is actually spent. In other words, the U.S. could spend more but it doesn't.

I'm just clarifying the point, anyway, not looking for a discussion.

Races, not god-damn nationalities.
User avatar #58 to #54 - crycamellia (11/12/2013) [-]
I think nationalities is actually right in this situation.
Imagine if all these students were the same race, but born and raised in other countries. They would have the same physical characteristics, which would be their race, but they would retain the mindset of the country they were born and raised in.
User avatar #68 to #58 - akho (11/12/2013) [-]
I firstly considered that they were sorted on national basis, but then I thought that it's acting under certain assumptions like 'all Europeans are legal entities', but considering that assumptions can be challenged, the broadest way to encompass all entities under one heading is 'race' for you cannot be raceless. But, you could be an illegal immigrant. I could go on and on but really what you need to consider is this:

tl;dr races have no geographical boundaries where as historic nationalism does. If we don't want to be controversial, using races as a broader term is safer.
#61 to #54 - alexanderh (11/12/2013) [-]
list of races in the post above:

list of nationalities:
american
chinese

And then we have african and european, which are closer to nationalities than races.
