For those unaware of what TV Show this is. This is 'Scrubs'. An American medical comedy-drama television series created by Bill Lawrence that aired from October 2, 2001 to March 17, 2010 on NBC and later ABC. The series follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart teaching hospital. The title is a play on surgical scrubs and a term for a low-ranking person because at the beginning of the series, most of the main characters were medical interns.

SPOILER ALERT
Screenshots from episode: 'My Screw Up', episode 3:14. Dr.Cox close and only real friend that he can commit too, Ben, has died of Leukemia in the beginning of the episode. The entire episode is tricked to make the audience believe that it was an old man who died at the beginning and we see Dr.Cox pain and suffering as his friend Ben follows him around the hospital. It is only at the end, that we realise it was in fact Ben who died and Dr.Cox has spent the whole week in denial.

The Fray - How To Save A Life (featured on Scrubs) This is the scene that made me cry. Could not take that emotion.

That scene hit me hard.

They say that you should never feel bad if you make the wrong choice, and can't save someones life, because they would have died anyway. But it's impossible to shake the feeling that if you acted a little faster or spent a little more time thinking something through, you could have saved their life. That it was your ineptitude that allowed them to die, and that they could have survived.

Love Scrubs, but Ben died of a heart attack in this episode. Granted leukaemia can have all sorts of knock on secondaries and paraneoplastic syndromes which increase the chance of HAVING an MI, that's what he died of; I think JD says "15 minutes after you left he went in to cardiac arrest. There was nothing we could do".

Have I watched too much Scrubs? You bet your ass I have.
User avatar #42 to #23 - thingexplain (07/21/2014) [-]
Actually, cardiac arrest doesn't mean a heart attack. Since the legal definition of "death" is when the heart stops beating and cannot be made to beat again, all deaths are cardiac arrest in the end. What actually killed him wasn't stated.
#71 to #42 - kisushima (07/21/2014) [-]
Actually, a cardiac arrest is when the heart's electrical activity becomes abnormal and prevents a circulatory function. In a cardiac arrest the heart typically falls in to one of two shockable rhythms with a defibrillator. They are VF and pulseless VT.

An MI (heart attack) is either partial or total occlusion of a coronary artery that causes either ischemic or infarction (NSTEMI is a partial occlusion and causes ischemia and a STEMI causes infarction unless put on the ACS protocol on admission/ in the ambulance).

A heart attack is the most common form of cardiac arrest, and is also the term I used to address members of FJ because barely any are medically trained. It's also watch matches his case best and under Occam's razor is what he likely died of.
