a friend of mine is actually #74 on that list. he said he had to slow down because his steam level took over his life and he wasn't even enjoying video games. now he's hardly ever online.
I'm level 20 and only started doing anything on steam this summer. Git gud.
Seriously though, the easiest way is by using steamtradingcards.net You don't even have to work at it - just visit it during loading screens and stuff. It makes trading cards super easy.
It's basically a bot - as long as it's in stock then guaranteed you can trade unless somebody else beats you to it (which isn't too often).
They give you credits with the bot for trading your stuff in, so the value still needs to add up. But it's a lot easier than trading with people. And if you want, you can easily buy low, sell high to get more credits with the bot.
By and large it just makes everything easier. It does have a few limitations to bear in mind though: if you trade for a card they only have 1 of, you get charged 1.5 times it's normal worth. However there's a setting on the site to make it so that if that ever happens to you, it automatically declines the trade instead (as if it was out of stock).
Also, if one of their cards is "overstocked" at 8 cards, you'll have to wait to trade it in until it's at 7 cards or less.
And it only does normal cards: no foils, no emoticons, no backgrounds.
Lastly, you can only have 100 credits at a time stored with them. You can store more credits' worth by just gathering cards that you plan to trade in later, but there is a small risk to just gathering any cards because if they're overstocked when you need to trade them in, you won't be able to. Not very important but good to know.
I've also been on Steam for years and i'm still lvl 6. I guess this is how it goes when you don't spend hundreds of bucks on games you'll never gonna play (the magic of steam sales).
steam levels have nothing to do with play time or really anything about games really, to get it you just have to spend money/time trading for cards and making badges
Honestly that's why I was mostly unimpressed by these. Steam is still lacking a number of basic features that would really improve performance, so we would have a fast program as opposed to a slow program. Steam doesn't even have things like hardware acceleration, and still uses a ****** webkit (i.e. the Steam page is just a copy of their actual website) which ultimately suffers from the aforementioned lack of hardware acceleration coupled with the fact that webkit in of itself is reminiscent of the 2000s.
Steam started as a 2000 era program, and lacking any sort of real updates is still a crappy 2000 era program.
...who gives a **** ? steam is great except for the ****** bugs.
just play your games. dont add all of this needless facebook tier customization. no one cares.
oh yeah. because I like to stay around their profile and examine every detail and gimmick they put up to impress themselves for more than 6 hours, I agree.
I know most people probably think it would be stupid, but i would like for valve to add avatars similar to xbox live or mii's. I just like having more **** to personalize on my profile
hey you do know friends list thing is there right?
i have it so that when im on my laptop playing whatever game it says im away.
kinda annoying if im wanting to message someone cause i have to change it.
to mess with it open steam client and left hand conner friends just hit offline and your good, that's what the accurate profile status is about.
A few of these i find useless because they're "Minor" features, a few others i would definately be into
Especially if the bookmarks told you if there was a price decrease / Increase, Like you could set it to tell you if a price has changed by at least a dollar, and it'd send you an email.
A few are just minor gripes, Or things to make it look "neater" (I use a custom steam hud so *Shrug*) If anything i want them to update how we look at games In game.
Example: I'm playing dota, And i can't tell if i have doubles of an item or not. I'd rather just have a feature that i can click and it'd select all my doubles so i can just trade / sell the ones i don't need anymore.
