Idk, I feel sad for countries, people that need to have guns to feel save... Where I live we dont even close our door, ever. Its not needed, the building is 120 years old and noone has ever stolen anything. We live 5 people in here, with instruments, pc's, everything. Our friends always just enter the house whenever they want, its common to have 10 people at home. Its as beautiful as it sounds.

User avatar #48 to #35 - jackknapp (11/07/2013) [-]
We should rename Shotguns Self-Defensers!

"I self defensed the **** outta that guy."
User avatar #105 to #35 - commontroll (11/07/2013) [-]
Assault rifles are very hard to come by in America. Unless you mean a civilian version of a military assault rifle. AR-15s are semi-auto, and the rounds are actually very small.

In fact, an AR-15 is a better weapon to defend yourself with because it is accurate, so you won't hit innocent bystanders, it is less likely to penetrate through your whole house than a hunting rifle, and the bullets are specifically designed to wound, not kill. That means less firearm related deaths if we use 5.56/.223 rounds. Don't forget about the fact that it is an intimidating gun, possibly more so than a shotgun.

But go ahead, say how it's much better to use something that can cause more casualties and deaths than necessary because it looks scary and has a lot of small rounds.
#79 to #35 - pebar (11/07/2013) [-]
Home Defense: Double Barrel Shotgun vs AR15 now you're just being retarded...
Also, assault rifles have been heavily regulated since the 30s. It'll cost 10s of thousands of dollars to get one.
Or do you mean semi-automatic? that's completely different.......
User avatar #124 to #79 - completeaddiction **User deleted account** (11/08/2013) [-]
That's a person trying to make a biased observation that AR-15's should be legal. Self-defense is NOT being in a shoot out, self-defense is someone breaking into your home in the middle of the night, and you, being uncoordinated, needing to kill the man inside your house. For self-defense in Detroit (when I lived there) I had a 12-gauge shotgun with a pistol grip, easy to handle, not much aim needed, shortest barrel allowed in the state. From a 20-foot distance that thing could put a hole about 1.5 feet in radius into anything in front.
User avatar #125 to #124 - pebar (11/08/2013) [-]
they already are legal
you said AR-15s are not a reasonable option for self defense and that's just plain ********
User avatar #127 to #125 - completeaddiction **User deleted account** (11/09/2013) [-]
I know they're legal, I was referring to the attempt to ban assault rifles. And any gun is a "reasonable option" but if you truly just want to defend yourself, it's not what you'd pick,

We should be teaching kids about firearms and how to safely behave around them, rather than teach them to irrationally fear firearms like the schools do.
#62 to #45 - anon (11/07/2013) [-]
That's wrong because schools don't teach kids anything
User avatar #70 to #62 - durkadurka (11/07/2013) [-]
All of the irrational panicking over anything vaguely related to a firearm IS teaching the kids something: It teaches them to irrationally fear something instead of understanding what it does, how it works, and how to be safe.

And what's the worst is that it comes from the people who insist on teaching sex ed. You think they'd get the importance of educating kids about potentially dangerous behavior.
#85 - yuukoku (11/07/2013) [-]
Every kid that I've ever known whose family owns a gun has had that talk with their father about never playing with or showing guns to their friends. When this happens, it's the fault of the parents and sort of the fault of modern media, but let's not get into that and nobody else.
User avatar #106 to #85 - commontroll (11/07/2013) [-]
Agreed. My dad trained me that whenever I pick up a gun, these are the things to do:
1) Don't put your finger near the trigger
2) Make sure there are no cartridges in the chamber, be absolutely certain it is unloaded
4) Always act as if the gun is loaded, so no pointing, keeping your finger off the trigger, etc. Even when I know it's unloaded I'm still wary, in case my memory is fuzzy.
User avatar #107 to #106 - yuukoku (11/07/2013) [-]
Yes. This is the same **** that I learned as a kid and it's the same **** that everybody else should know.
User avatar #108 to #107 - commontroll (11/07/2013) [-]
Indeed. Guns are only a problem when people take them too seriously, or just treat them like toys. Too many people now just want to say something is bad, instead of teaching their kids and themselves that they're only bad when they're misused.

It's the same thing with a car really.
User avatar #112 to #108 - yuukoku (11/07/2013) [-]
Modern media misleads people into having extreme ideas about guns. People also just like to try to push their ideas on others and talk down to people, which is why you hear many celebrities and like people talking down to the population that enjoys gun rights. They're the same people that like to think that they're being progressive, but they're not. They're making the same mistakes that people made four hundred years ago, which makes them hypocrites.
User avatar #113 to #112 - commontroll (11/07/2013) [-]
Yeah, it's really unfortunate. In my opinion, if you don't want to have guns, great don't buy them. If you do, great, buy them. Otherwise shut up and let others make their decisions.
User avatar #114 to #113 - yuukoku (11/07/2013) [-]
Yeah. Live and let live, right? It gets at me that there are people out there that think that they should make decisions for other people.

You and me both dude. You and me both. Unfortunately, it seems that it will be some time until Libertarians actually become popular enough to start changing this crap.
User avatar #116 to #115 - yuukoku (11/07/2013) [-]
They'll gain footing. People just need to realize that less government control is better for both liberals and conservatives to some degree, though it has its drawbacks for both as well. I like the Libertarian view, but I won't say that there aren't any problems with it.
User avatar #117 to #116 - commontroll (11/07/2013) [-]
Yeah, eventually. But yeah, I'm fine with states choosing what happens and all, to a certain degree. It's just our country is too diverse for us to decide what the entire country has to do. If the country managed to get a 51-49 on some big topic of debate, then we would still have over 150 million people who are getting jipped because of a 2% difference.
User avatar #118 to #117 - yuukoku (11/07/2013) [-]
Agreed. That's why amending the Constitution is so rare. I think that some matters are best left up to state and local governments. However, politicians don't always do what's right. House members are always looking to get more votes to be reelected, so they will do whatever lobbyists tell them to or whatever. It's saddening.
#86 - alecope (11/07/2013) [-]
His father isn't very smart to leave it in a drawer like that. And with live round in it? He shouldn't have that firearm in the first place. At least have a trigger-lock on the thing. I'm going to blame video games once that kid flees from not playing.
