As someone studying to be a teacher someday, this thing about dealing with angry parents is one of the things that scares me about the profession i choose.

Kids are kids, i learned that, no mather who they are or where they came the things they do are because they are innocent and they where educated that way.

In my country is not common to see a male teacher, so when people see one they tend to criticize him very fast and always see the bad things about everything he does.
My mom used to be a teacher too and i always saw her with kids around her, holding them up and giving kisses to them, normal affection to a child. I know that if i do that there will be somewhere an angry parent that will think of me like some sort of pedophile and that is something that i know i will have to deal someday and makes me angry and scared.

Such is the way in a country where, eventually, we'll all be shut in our homes and raised incorrectly by the internet. If there's one bad apple, the whole tree is bad in the eyes of parents.

If you really want to be an elementary school/primary school teacher, then good luck, you'll probably be more annoyed about the parents than the children, not even as much because of what you said, but because kids are dickbags. Seriously, the stories i've heard from both of my teaching parents about their student's parents are endless...

The thing is that its a good job, it opens a lot of doors to other things more important and i will get a job for sure when i graduate, we need teachers so i will be in front of a class for sure

The solution to that is deal with Highschool students, sure they're little ***** , but at least their parents believe that they're little *****

The sad part is that that's totally understandable nowadays.

School started up again for me last week, and after getting to know my teachers, I learned my AP Lit teacher, an excellent teacher whom everybody likes, has a very strict policy: If you want to meet him before/after school, that's totally fine, but there has to be at least one other person there, doesn't matter who. He said, "because these days we have to cover our asses."

Somehow that seems wrong. He shouldn't need to have to cover his ass, but the way things are these days, it's such a shame.

That's what one of my teachers told me when i was doing the internship i have to do to pass a class. Never be alone with kids, and if something happens in the school do not intervene, so if 2 kids start to beat the **** out of each other leave them alone basically :/
User avatar #146 to #145 - usamajime (08/12/2014) [-]
I suppose that makes sense. But how else are you supposed to break up the fight, cold water?

The same teacher also said that when he receives emails from the students, he logs them in the gmail archive so in case parents want to see them, he can pull them up right there.

We have a police officer at my school, so him or one of the security guards takes care of it. I plan on becoming a teacher, but that **** scares me

I finished my education training last year and I am a male... There is a lot of double standards when it comes to making contact with kids. I think a pat on the back is fine, I have a good relationship with most of the kids and sometimes they come up and hug me or when we are walking places I hold their hand but i was told that these things aren't on and shouldn't happen as people might get the wrong idea... In my eyes sometimes a hug or a pat on the back is all a kid needs as they sometimes don't get it at home. I then see other teachers around the school hugging, having kids sitting on their laps, holding hands, rubbing their back and not a word is spoken because they are female... nothing worse than seeing a kid that has fallen over and just needs a little rub on the back or an arm around their shoulders to calm them down but you can't in fear of losing your job.

There came a point in time where parents began to blame the teachers instead of the kids. Especially when they weren't doing their jobs as parents. We breed people with a lack of responsibility for their own actions and their kids will be just as bad if not worse. We need to bring shameful punishment back to the schools imo. It's the only way those brats and their horrible parents will learn.

giving kissed to someone elses kids. idk but that sounds kinda wrong no matter your gender. hugs seem acceptable in my point of view for a kid teacher relationship
User avatar #52 to #45 - inuzukaa (08/12/2014) [-]
I mean a kiss when the kid comes and says hi or for goodbye, no kissing a kid all day, especially if isnt yours, maybe i wasnt clear enough there, but yeah now that you say it it really sound weird

That's Paul de Leeuw, a Dutch comedian/singer/TV-host. And that was just a sketch he did, the kid was playing along. Before the show started he even asked the kid if it was all right in front of his parents and the producers.
Don't be hating on this man, he is a genius on the Dutch TV and would never do anything like this in real live.
