-30 minutes till end of shift, prick boss says hurry up and says I am purposely slacking
-He stands and watches me for the next 30 minutes

I'm curious. Can you tell a story or two about frighteningly horrid donations?
#73 to #34 - saxong (11/26/2013) [-]
Einsty, there was one occasion upon which someone thought it would be appropriate to donate a suitcase full of puke. Another time a childrens diaper box came in with several half used sample packs of extenze and candy boxes. Piss stained mattresses are practically a weekly thing, mementos from the homes of elderly women who no doubt finally succumbed to their umpteen-thousandth pack of cigarettes judging by the stench of every single thing that is in the donation. Sex toys, purses with tampons (luckily only one ever was used), just about anything you would every think "Oh no, that's never going to be anything but garbage." people have donated with every expectation of it being sold.

Both the boss and the leader are flawed the best way is one where the guy is up top normally and he's directing them around obstacles while keeping an eye on the big picture and if needed jumps down and helps pull until they get through the rough zone. While the one on the bottom looks like he's the best he can be more occupied with pulling and what's right in front of him to see the big picture and the best path and leads them right into quicksand.
#45 to #16 - anon (11/26/2013) [-]
Your pseudo-intellectual ******** pisses me off. The leader is a leader for a reason, and most get there with their powers of observation. So, using the metaphor "leads them right into quicksand" is not only ******** , but completely undermines the statement in this image. The leader leads by example, period, and since we are social animals we rely on leadership and experiential learning to better understand our progress and shortcomings. When people undermine the leader and find ways to legitimize the boss [who is NOT depicted here "jump(ing) down" to help others] in their tyranny is tantamount to giving into slavery.
User avatar #50 to #16 - bookyle (11/26/2013) [-]
no, the power of the leader is to be able to both direct and do the work at the same time.

A leader is not a blind do-er. It's not the same as your ******** highschool group work leadership where the "leader" just tells other people what to do.

Your view of the leader is flawed.

This is actually a modern leadership approach. Unlike what many people here seem to misunderstand, that does not mean that the boss is doing the same work as his employees. It just means that the leader does not give orders for the sake of giving orders.

There is now the concept of a "servant-leader". That would be a boss who would allow his team members to manage themselves as much as they are able to, and his main job is to remove any problems they are encountering. Obviously, this won't mean that the team members can do whatever the heck they want. It just means that the manager does not micro-manage every second of their day purely due to being a power-hungry SOB.

to be fair, a company has thousands of teams. A boss can't be expected to lead all of them...

I think you are confusing the word "boss" with the word "CEO". Each team has a boss, and that boss is supposed to lead the team.

Why would a boss want to micromanage with his delegates? That's the whole reason he hired employees, so he has time to do other things...
thats business, folks.
If we're tlking war or leadership for some kind of movement then I would understand where OP is coming from

I just put my two week notice into my job today. Let me tell you, i am the only guy out of 20 other employees. I do all the heavy lifting, ladder climbing, tedious tasks, and the boss tells me "she counts on me for everything" when i gave my two weeks. Some boss's just take advantage of the good workers. I don't think "boss" should be a thing anymore. Everyone should know what needs done, and freaking do it. If you sign a paper saying you can lift "50 lbs" then you need to lift 50 pounds and freaking help. I say the boss can't operate without the little guy. If all the little guys quit, what's the boss going to do? What's the company going to do? Of course they'll hire more people who end up hating the companies policies and leaving. I hate corporations. Lowest scum of the earth.

I work my butt off, i worked my butt off for a promotion that she said was available. And gave it to a girl who's been there 2 months. While i've been there over a year busting my butt. That's why I gave my two weeks. Don't work for people who use you because you work hard. She didn't promote me because she counts on me for too much.
User avatar #51 to #42 - kaosminett (11/26/2013) [-]
I had the same situation as you once, and did the same thing. And after I quit they begged me to come back because they got overwhelmed. But I'm making twice as much now and do less work so they can suck it. I would have stayed if I got a promotion or a raise which I definitely deserved but they kept going "ask again in summer" and in the summer "ask again in the winter"

Sucks doesn't it??? Were being taken advantage of so badly that we can't get a promotion because we work too hard in our area now and they can't rely on someone else to do it so they keep you where you're at. Its pretty pathetic. When I put my two weeks in, i was like there's no opportunity for me here so i gotta go. She seemed pretty upset about it! But whatever man that's what happens when you treat people like they don't think for themselves and will just mindlessly do what you say. My only problem now is finding another job which i don't really see as a problem! Just might have to take something cruddy for a little wihle as long the statement is there that I won't be used anymore i'm all set.
#104 to #103 - justwhatevs (11/26/2013) [-]
Yeah, I'm pretty ******* salty about it. I've been there for just over a year now. Got promoted once because I asked for it and I work my ass off. So I wasn't a manager yet, but I was technically training for it. They had me doing the manager duties though (because ****** right). Then they decide to transfer over another guy from a different store who was in the same position as I am. So now he's the manager and I'm still in the in between position. The guys been there for six ******* months.

It is kind of nice though. Now I just **** around and the store is getting worse every day because of it. Nothing I can do though. If I continue to work my ass off he just gets the credit. Because again, **** me.
#105 to #104 - underthetable (11/26/2013) [-]
That sounds EXACTLY like my situation. She was training me on EVERYTHING. I was superior to everyone, got commented constantly on how hard i worked by other managers and they know it. One manager left, and i was like i'll take her position she said she'll "try." They brought another girl from another store over. Then hired this other girl on and then they promote this girl 2 months into getting there! Drives me NUTS. My store is also falling apart, the managers sit in their offices while we run the place by ourselfs. They are just "reading e mails" And when is first started there, they were never in the offier. just the past like 3 months they've been nothing but hiding int he back room while we work, and its usually just 2 of us sometimes just me running the whole store. that's bull crap
#107 to #105 - justwhatevs (11/26/2013) [-]
Sucks. Dunno about you, but I've only been out of hs for a year. My whole life has kind of been revolving around this job. My friends are my co workers. Handing in my two weeks would be sweet though.

yeah dude i went to college, graduated, couldn't find work, got stuck in this crap. figured i'd make the best of it and go for a promotion. my suggestion is go to college for something in demand! nursing, programming something like that. I'm going to be a police officer now but its taking me almost 10 years to figure out that's something i wanted to do.

I'm doing a four or five month course in January actually at a local college. It will at least get my feet in the water. Deciding what to do with the rest of your life at 18 is ******* retarded. I'm also trying to get into a uni for this coming September. Applied to courses that I thought would be universal enough to help me get a job anywhere. Getting my manager position sure would have helped out though. But again, **** me.

yeah dude i'm 26 right now. don't wait around just pick something you like and do it. If you don't like it 5 years down the road you're barely in your twenties or you'll be my age and you can just do it all over again but at least you'll have a good job while doing it. Just my 2 cents

A leader is supposed to be able to get many different people to accomplish many different tasks at the same time to accomplish an overall goal.

Any time he takes direct control of a single task, all the other tasks lose his supervision. A good boss delegates to competent personnel, not micromanages everything himself.
