The Suit

DARTH VADER' S ARMOUR
The suit provided a wide variety of Airsupport systems, the most Important
among them a complex breathing apparatus, and gave Vader relatively free
movement His armour was made mostly of Durasteel
To escape the armour' s claustrophobic nature, Vader had several meditation
chambers built, in which he could remove his mask and sat and still survive.
However, Vader longed to be less dependent on his armour
Various displays inside Vader' s helmet supplied him with a steady stream
of data amplifying his already formidable connection to the Force. His helmets
eye coverings provided infrared and ultraviolet vision. allowing Vader to see
clearly even in complete darkness
ntu' Mask
Besides protection his helmet stuck needles into Vader" s skin when fixed in place
which teed neurological data on brainwave activity to the central chest computer
and possessed radiator conduction pads were Installed into the helmet as
a means to allow excess heat to bleed through the metal surface
The shoulder armour weighed 12. 2 kg overall, was resistant to both blasters
and energy blades A drawback, however, is that its weight made it difficult for
Vader to raise his lightsaber to full height, though he could still raise
his hands above his head, but with great difficulty
Vader wore a padded multiply body glove that covered everything
below his neck The flexible, quilted suit was
and was made of a fireproof material that provided some protection
against flames and corrosive gasses There was also a gasket within
at suit that accesses the cartridge containing chemicals
to lessen Vader‘ s perception of pain
Darth Vader' s right glove that covered his cybernetic hand was constructed
using were Kaan' s indestructible Sith amulets The gloves, or gauntlets. were
also made of a Microsites Mandala: an iron weave to protect Vader against
glancing lightsaber blows, as well as deflecting a direct hit from a blaster bolt
The suit was equipped with a sensitive system
which could be controlled by a function box on his belt. This unit was
powerful enough to allow Vader to walk the surface
of Hoth without any additional protection
The synthsage that substituted for the skin that was seared
from his bones on Mustafar itched incessantly, and his body
needed to be periodically cleansed and scrubbed of necrotic
flesh and the incessant rasp of his breathing interfered with
his ability to rest, let alone sleep
Vader' s shiny black combat boots contained durasteel that hinged on the
sides of the foot of the boot to allow him to walk The boots soles
also contained a ferromagnetic core which could be activated by
Vaders controls to generate a strong
magnetic fields to cling to starship hulls

So basically the suit made his life hell
User avatar #8 to #3 - iamawhitenigger (12/24/2015) [-]
pretty sure the no legs or arms and 3rd degree burns made his life hell, too

Well it was either that or die on Mustafar though it turned out that Vader's suit and cybernetics were actually very primitive compared to the technology available. This was done deliberately as Emperor Palpatine wanted to ensure that Vader would never become powerful enough to betray him. Of course as anybody who's seen episode 6 knows, this apparently wasn't enough to keep him from killing the Emperor, even if it cost him his own life.
User avatar #39 to #3 - usernameisnotallow (12/24/2015) [-]
it likely had drawbacks intentionally implemented because palpatine was afraid vader might surpass him
it also periodically beeped incessantly for no apparent reason

Also, doesn't pain and anger make a Sith Lord's connection to the Force stronger? It seems like that was the reason for Kylo Ren punching his wound.

Ya either it was filthered, or maybe he didnt eat at all, there wasnt much organic bits left, and what was left he kept going by the power of the dark side alone?

That makes no sense: he takes his mask off when he's in there. There's been many a time I was dropping a deuce and wish I had a mask on.

He pooped in the shower and watched it disintegrate

Wow, it seems like having all four of your limbs chopped off and being seared by magma really damages your quality of life.

youd think with all the space ships and magic swords they would have a way to induce temporary deafness
i mean even we have something for that, we call them ear plugs
User avatar #19 to #14 - ltbuttstrong (12/24/2015) [-]
Well considering it was Sidious' designs he probably focused on efficiency, combat prowess and intimidation factors, with little to no regard to comfort.
#24 to #19 - anon (12/24/2015) [-]
Actually Palpatine deliberately used outdated technology to reconstruct Vader to keep him from becoming too powerful to control.
User avatar #25 to #24 - ltbuttstrong (12/24/2015) [-]

User avatar #20 to #14 - unoletmehavename (12/24/2015) [-]
It was probably Palpatines little **** eating idea,to keep Vader tired angry, more in tune with the Dark side.

interesting explanation
User avatar #22 to #21 - unoletmehavename (12/24/2015) [-]
I read it somewhere that Palpatine cut corners on some suit things, like comfort, and generally feeling ok in that suit, the needles that connected to the suit were painfull, and of course he refused to give him pain killers during the operation.

When i saw the movie as a kid I always thought the buttons exposed on his belt were the stupidest part of the design. I pretty much thought that Luke would defeat him by pushing some button causing him to explode
#26 to #16 - anon (12/24/2015) [-]
Actually in one of the comics, a Jedi Master did exactly that, temporarily disabling Vader's life support, but even if his suit is compromised, Vader can use the Force to keep himself alive for iirc up to 24 hours, with the best example of this being in The Force Unleashed.

User avatar #65 to #44 - clavatninenine (12/25/2015) [-]
He looks badass because his outfit is modeled after Darth Revan.
User avatar #47 to #44 - darthblam (12/24/2015) [-]
That's kind of the point.
The character is intentionally an unstable, wannabe Darth Vader.
User avatar #52 - kingofkrauts (12/25/2015) [-]
You know, they fly with superluminal speed, use the force and pretty much reign over a whole galaxy...but they are not able to re-clone some bloody skin like we partially do today, or get him a cybernetical lung or whatever?
(Still, the suit kicks ass.)
User avatar #62 to #52 - kjftiger (12/25/2015) [-]
I feel like they could, but I think that him needing the suit is part of how he was stuck under the emperors control.

So you're telling me in that last one, that Darth Vader could take a Space Walk on the outside of a Star Destroyer, and the only thing he'd be affected by is the direct radiation from any nearby stars?!

Damn, I need to get me some of that armor.

Its hard for Vader to long for the ideal of life without his suit but a certain asshole jedi sort of seared off his legs and left him to get burned alive in a ball of fire.

You don't get to live or breathe normally after that

Well basically, Him and his old Jedi Master, Obi-Wan fought on a lava planet, Mustafar, at the end Vader was on a floating platform above the lava, while Obi-Wan was on a patch of land leading uphill, Vader attempted to jump over Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan promply cut off Vader's limbs, now before all this he had already lost a hand in a lightsaber duel and had it replaced with a prosthetic, lucky(though you could argue unlucky) for Vader, his robotic hand wasn't cut off, after Obi-Wan left him to die by the pool of lava, Vader's rage kept him alive long enough to use the robotic hand to crawl away from the lava, and get rescued by his Sith Master, Darth Sidious, AKA Emperor Palpatine, and from there the suit was made
User avatar #68 - hudis (12/25/2015) [-]
