Where to start?



Weight-based programs are the easiest to get into. So join a gym. Make sure they have barbells and free weights and a squat rack. Find one where you feel comfortable and is open around your schedule. Most gyms will give you a little tour if you are interested, and will often let you try things out for free for a day or two. Shop around. Find one you like. Take weeks if you have to. And then get started. Here are three popular SIMPLE routines that only use 5 exercises TOTAL, and require only three trips to the gym per week:

Stronglifts "5x5": stronglifts.com/5x5/ - One of the most popular. Simple and effective. Probably the easiest thing to start with. It's where I started.

Phrak's Greyskull Workout: i.stack.imgur.com/OUcEY.png - This was put together by reddit user Phrakture on /r/fitness as a modified version of a different workout.

Starting Strength "3x5": forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224 - considered one of the classic beginner programs. The only difficulty with this one is that one of the exercises (power clean) can be difficult to learn on your own. Some people substitute a rowing exercise for it.

Still don't want to sign up for a gym or use weights?? Try one of these bodyweight routines that is less focused on super heroes, and more focused on results:

Diet is at least 70% of the equation. Now while I think the rationale behind the Paleo diet is totally stupid and unfounded, paleo recipes are free of bread and pasta. Reducing those two things and replacing them with fruits and veggies is a seriously easy way to get started on burning fat, so it's nice to have some bread/pasta-free recipes around

Seriously, it may take time, commitment, and effort, but it's not complicated. We aren't talking about bodybuilding, or spending an hour or more in the gym every day. You can get a lot done with just 4 or 5 different exercises, three times a week, if you pick the right exercises. The two people in the progress pics just cleaned up their diets, started doing a few simple lifts, and stuck with it. Anyone without prior injury or disability can do it.

This is what I found most helpful when I started working out. Hopefully you find it helpful, too.

EDIT: For those freaking out about my comment regarding the bodyweight workout posts, I was NOT saying bodyweight workout plans are bad. I was making fun of those posts because they suck. Bodyweight exercises themselves are great, just look at any serious gymnast. Check out the Barstarzz youtube channel while you're at it (www.youtube.com/user/OfficialBarstarzz). The thing is, these folks follow workout plans. The things that get posted aren't plans, they are a random mish mash of exercises with something like "Batman" tacked onto the name to sound more interesting. Some of the exercises included in these are great, some are total **** .



Bodyweight workouts, when done correctly, can be very effective. There is a reason I actually included bodyweight stuff in this post, if you actually read it. My first recommendation for an overall beginner plan, however, is still weight training because it is easier to progress with when the exercises start to get easy. You just add more weight. With bodyweight routines, you typically have to change the way you actually do the exercise to make it challenging enough. Things like pull ups and dips are amazing muscle and strength builders. Pull ups, though, tend to be very challenging for beginners to do. I see plenty of bodybuilder types at the gym who still suck at strict pull ups. But whatever. You are free to exercise as you want. Truth be told, doing the Batman jumping jack work out is a 1000 times better than sitting on your ass and eating cheese doodles (though that has its merits, too). Do whatever ya like. These are just the recommendations of some guy on the internet.

Ive been trying to lose weight for the last two months and I cant figure out what Im doing wrong. I went from literally no physical activity and 5 sodas a day and tons of junkfood to completely giving up any beverage but water and eating more vegetables and lean meat and going to a gym 5 times a week. Cardio cardio cardio. Also, eating healthy is a must, but the single most important thing to do is watch your intake. Losing weight is a simple equation, you must burn more than you take in. Try doing a cleanse if you want rapid results, but bear in mind, it sucks.

25lbs is a pretty easy goal to reach. after a few months of not drinking soda ... or water... or anything, and cutting back on stuff like food, and air. I was finally able to reach my goal weight of 25 lbs. It's easy once you loose that extra fat, and skin, and organs.

ProTip for dating/marriage:

This is a genuine question. I get the attraction of a girl with a big ass and large hips. But I don't understand why people find fat ones more attractive it seems. Like, for example, the left pic of her, it's literally just FLAB, which is soft and jiggly and, i don't know, just fat.

There's a girl who I work with who's ass is like twice as large as my torso, and every other girl is like "Damn I wish I had her ass," when it's literally just fat, from everything she eats going to her thighs, which makes her look a bit dis-proportioned.

I personally find the one on the right more attractive because her body isn't going to be as hard as a rock, but her ass and thighs are now big because of muscle, so when i grab either, they're going to be wicked firm, rather than just squish in my hands.

Well psychologically according to many theories in evolutionary psychology a lot of men like girls with bigger thighs/hips/buttocks because it is a sign of fecundity and that any children that will result will be very healthy and intelligent. That also has some merit as far as women with bigger fat stores in those areas (not due to steatopygia and probably due to being genetically inclined to accumulate more fat there as apposed to the torso) have children with healthier brains as much of the omega 3 fats they eat store in those areas and only withdrawal after extreme weight loss or during the last few months of pregnancy (accounting for other healthy eating during pregnancy) and those fats go directly to the fetuses brain development.

It's hard-coded into our brains. Our instincts haven't worn off completely, and they probably never will. Large hipbones mean a wider birth canal, which mean less pain and bleeding when giving birth, which means there is a lower chance of the woman dying after the baby is delivered, which means she can still have children, which means more humans. Large breasts mean large quantitties of milk, so children will have more calcium in their diets, resulting in stronger bones for both the child and their descendants. Our minds seek out large hips because of our base instict to multiply the human population. Our attraction to large breasts is born of our ingrained desire to improve our species. Also, since there were no obese humans in prehistoric times, our brain doesn't know the difference between a fat ass and large hipbones.

Large breasts have nothing to do with milk production. Now, women who have large breasts are more likely to have more estrogen and therefore are more fertile but otherwise smaller breasted women make as much milk as larger breasted ones. It absolutely matters what you train.
Yes, just doing a bunch of different exercises makes you reasonably fit and decent-looking, especially if you're fat and trying to look respectable.
But you have to do some sort of routine. There's a term bodybuilders and athletes use to describe when people just do a bunch of exercises with no program: " ************** ".
I've never gotten better results than I did when I stuck with a program.
To amend your statement: Just actually pick a program and go to the gym, and stick with it. It really doesn't matter what program 5x5 stronglifts, 5/3/1, etc. just as long as you do it and stick to it for a couple of months.

I agree with you. Chubby girls are good for girlfriends and **** early in life and fit girls are better to marry.

Fact is, both the chubby girl and fit girl are going to gain weight later in life, so basically the fit girl will eventually turn into a chubby girl.

A lot of it is the angle at which the photo was taken. The first picture was taken at an angle which accentuates the hips and bosom while applying a thinning effect to the waist.

The second picture was taken at an off-frontal angle wherein her glutes are contracted, therefore reducing the appearance of her hips. The spread-ness of her thighs also accentuates their thinness and the existence of a thigh gap.

She's also wearing a sports bra in the second picture. Sports bras are designed to compress soft tissues. This causes the torso to appear significantly more rectangular in shape, especially when compared to the shape taken when wearing a bikini bra (see picture one).

There's lots of other things that I could point out, but tl;dr, the lady has the same width of hip in the second picture as in the first picture, but is more curvy in the second picture than the first. It's an angles and clothing game.

Where I work you can get tomatoes for 70p, cucumbers for 45p, lettuce for like 80p and stuff like onions for 60p. I guess if you were buying stuff by weight it could add up but if not it seems cheaper than buying unhealthy snacks. But I guess it could be more expensive elsewhere

It can be but I think most people just look at the price per pound rather than the price of the item in question. Up town a pound of apples cost $1.50-$2. I got a single apple for 37cents. That and prices fluctuate but it really isn't much of a difference.
