Anakin in 3, 4, 5
Darth Vader in 4, 5, 6

Something's ***** .

Did he just randomly switch in the movies?

Anakins from episode 2 is the only one that doesn't look retarded imo

uhhhhh luke skywalker's lightsaber is the one anakin built for ep 3
thats why its in episodes 3,4,5 while vader had to build a new one after obi-wan took it from him in ep 3

sidious has a cool one

but what about grip? i thought the ridged thing was for grip y'know, if your hands get sweaty you're not holding onto the laser stick
User avatar #6 to #1 - captainprincess (01/03/2016) [-]
he probably uses force powers to keep it in his geriatric hands
#7 to #6 - anon (01/03/2016) [-]
Everyone uses the Force to wield those things.
Otherwise they'd cut themselves up due to gyroscopic force.
User avatar #8 to #7 - captainprincess (01/03/2016) [-]
do the blades even have weight though

it's literally a laser loop and magnetic fields I thought
do those have mass
#37 to #8 - anon (01/04/2016) [-]
While the blades do not have any real weight, as a result of the energy circuit that keeps the blade stable, it produces "arc forces" which affect the way the blade interacts with matter, like the air around it. An ignited lightsaber, thus, is a particularly difficult weapon to wield because of these forces which, in a fashion, subtly jerk the blade in random directions when it contacts matter. For example, if one were to swing a lightsaber in a straight downward ark, it is entirely possible that the blade would land an inch or two to the left or right of the intended target. Also, a lightsaber left ignited on a table (horizontally) would eventually fall off of the table due to these forces.

So what is the effect of all this pseudo-science techno-babble? Well, those who are Force-Sensitive use the Force to compensate for these forces, while those who are not need to go through extensive training to learn to compensate via their own swordsmanship. In short, using a lightsaber is easy for a Force-Sensitive, with a little training, but it is very difficult (though by no means impossible) for a regular Joe.

***** , you are literally shooting plasma out of that thing up to three feet, that **** has RECOIL for days.
#51 to #50 - captainprincess (01/04/2016) [-]
Its more like a laser-plasma ring bent over double by magnets

Its kind of like a whip stuck in an eternal whip-crack
#53 to #51 - yoshtar (01/04/2016) [-]
well, yes, I was aware of that... so six feet of plasma blade, the trip out and the journey home.
and that's also not true of Early lightsabers, the protosaber, which was attached with a flexible wire to a belt-mounted power source.

that just makes the unique issue of a Lightsaber as a sword with recoil even worse.
User avatar #54 to #53 - captainprincess (01/04/2016) [-]
but where would the recoil come in
it's mass-less stuff being fired out and it's like it's a mechanical 'firing'

What's giving the kickback
#55 to #54 - yoshtar (01/04/2016) [-]
Plasma does have mass.

okay, so hear em out, I saw an old thing on Wookiepedia where a Sith Lord mentions that Lightsabers are based on a similar technology as a plasma cutter... and having used a plasma cutter to defeat and kill three partially trained apprentices.

tell me, do Plasma Cutters recoil?
User avatar #56 to #55 - captainprincess (01/04/2016) [-]
how the **** should I know
it's all theoretical technology

But I wouldn't THINk so
#57 to #56 - yoshtar (01/04/2016) [-]
like, real world plasma cutters, which use an electrical arc to excite air until it heats up into the fourth state of matter: Plasma.

if you want any idea on Plasma, think "The Sun", and you have about 90% of it.

Plasma cutter plasma isn't "The Sun" hot, but it's still hot enough that by projecting streams of this super-heated air through the nozzle of a plasma cutter, you can literally melt your way through thick sheet metal... y'know, like those high-pressure water-cutters... like Qui-Gon was doing in Episode One on the Trade Federation ship

so imagine a Lightsaber as a plasma cutter, but it's projecting it's thousand-degree high-pressure **** several feet from the handle, all contained within a magnetic 'envelope' thanks to techno-wizardry.
and then that's used as a melee weapon.

and that is why I posit that Lightsabers have recoil.
User avatar #58 to #57 - captainprincess (01/04/2016) [-]
None of that says recoil to me though
to me recoil speaks of kickback from a mechanical firing thing being used to shoot something via explosives or somesuch at high speeds

I don't see 'projection' and think theres anything giving kickback

but idk
Im not a scientist or anything I didnt even think plasma cutters were real

but yeah your description doesnt describe why anything would kick
#59 to #58 - yoshtar (01/04/2016) [-]
Newtons third law of motion: "Any action produces an equal or opposite reaction"
just as a Gun recoils into your shoulder when you squeeze the trigger, a hand-held device that spews out superheated air is going to press back into your hands and weigh against your arms.

just think of it as having a fan blow your hands into your body at arms length. a Very powerful fan.
User avatar #60 to #59 - captainprincess (01/04/2016) [-]
Where does the kinetic energy come from though
what's making it

I still don't get where a projection of hot gas is causing the same kind of kinetic energy that would shunt something in the same way that mechanical objects slamming into other objects and causing little explosions to propel an object, pushing against the end of the chamber, would hunt a gun ala "recoil"

I dont get it

User avatar #19 to #8 - adunsaveme (01/04/2016) [-]
probably not, but the hilt itself is heavy
#23 to #19 - danksouls ONLINE (01/04/2016) [-]
If the only thing with weight is the hilt it would still be extremely easy to wield because their is nowhere for the point of balance to be except on the hilt
User avatar #52 to #23 - captainprincess (01/04/2016) [-]
well maybe
I imagine it's like trying to swing a coffee mug with a paper-roll coming out of it

It's cannon that non-Jedi and people that aren't force sensitive can wield light sabers.

Amen, actually using scare tactics, ******* with Jedis mind before crushing them, like Dooku taught him. In the movie he's..........wasted.
User avatar #66 to #65 - theasexualgamer (01/05/2016) [-]
That scene in the Clone Wars where he took on 5 or 6 Jedi at once 2 or 3 of them being members of the Jedi council at nearly killed/incapacitated all of them except Ki Adi Mundi was awesome.
Then in Episode 3 he lost hands almost immediately and the 2008 Clone Wars series he couldn't kill a single Padawan.
User avatar #67 to #66 - sudminator (01/05/2016) [-]
Yeah sadly. You could chaulk his fail in the 3 to his organs being crushed by Windu in the the animated series, and that it affected him more than is obvious....but thats just an excuse.
User avatar #15 to #14 - imashitbricks (01/04/2016) [-]
