I don't get why people find it so frustrating. It's not nearly as frustrating as a game like Super Meat Boy, and the entire point of the game is that it's hard to control. It's a very short game too when you get the movement down.

Super Meat Boy is difficult, but the controls are constant and fair. If you jump at moment X, you'll land at moment Y. After many deaths with instant resets, you'll find yourself completing early sections of a level by muscle memory.

Getting Over it has this slight irreguarity where, when the camera moves, which you have no control over, the position of your mouse, and therefore the position of your hammer, also moves. This means that you have this little, uncontrollable "bounce" to many of your movements, and in certain sections this tiny bounce can mean the difference between clinging to a crucial outcropping (like the playground slide) and dropping all the way back to clay.

Nothing you do in super meat boy will ever send you further back than the start of your current level. There are many things that can be done in Getting Over It that will send you back to a point just behind the first tree.

Also, the narrator being a condescending ass does not help at all, nor his choice in royalty-free music samples from the depression.

Yeah well, theres no way around it really.

I myself got recomended to play it by a friend, being told not to read a single word on the page.
Having learned my lesson from when he told me the same thing with school live, I listened. When the warning about graphic content or whatever popped up I didn't clue in either, I figured it was about something ecchi that could happen.

**** I hated him for that for a couple days.

Getting over it is a great game. Genuinely difficult without being unfair. Relying on the players skill and knowledge gained through trial and error. It's certainly not for everyone, but I love that it exists. Genuinely must be a decade or more since I last played I game I gave up on and didn't beat because it was too hard. Getting over it may be at that level of difficulty for me

Yeah, everyone keeps saying DDLC is amazing, but it just felt like a 30 minute long creepypasta in VN form to me. The meta tricks were pretty clever, but I didn't at all feel like it lives up to the hype

Getting into DDLC before the hype hit I knew it would end up like this. Once it was clear that it was reaching the mainstream it was bound to be spread around as the "best thing ever" by people that are used to reading Nekopara. But reading it before it got unreasonably popular it was pretty good for a short, 6 hour long free game.

The general plot is You/The Protag joins the School Literature club through a childhood friend, Sayori. You meet other girls' Natsuki, **** and the club leader Monika. As you participate in the club activities and get to know the girls better in the lead up to the School Festival, Sayori admits she suffers depression and that she loves you, you have to choose between returning her feelings and rejecting her. Both choices have the same outcome. As the day of the festival approaches, Sayori's usually bittersweet poem is replaced with a dark and morbid note repeatedly telling someone to get out of her head. When Sayori doesn't answer texts, the protagonist rushes to Sayori's home, where he discovers that she has committed suicide. The game glitches as you wonder if there was anything you could have done to avoid this and the game ends. You are sent to the main menu with all files gone. You have to start from the beginning of the game which is near identical except Sayori is absent. Either completely removed or replaced by glitches. Once again the protagonist meets the Literature Club (minus Sayori) and gets to know Natsuki and **** more. However, more and more unsettling events occur, with normal dialogue being replaced by darker content. Multiple other glitches occur, such as the game rewinding after the protagonist finds **** cutting herself and the game refusing to accept conversation selections that don't favour Monika. Before the festival, **** presents the protagonist with a poem consisting of illegible writing and bloodstains; after confessing her love to the protagonist, the player is given the choice to either accept or decline her love. Regardless of the player's choice, **** also commits suicide. Upon discovering ****** body, Natsuki becomes ill and flees. Monika then appears, and addresses the player directly. Monika then apologies and deletes the "character files" for **** and Natsuki, causing the game to restart once again. Upon starting a new game, you are placed in an ethereal room with Monika seated across from him. Monika explains that she is aware that she's trapped in a game and that she is able to manipulate the game's files to alter the other characters' personalities or erase them altogether. She admits to making Sayori "more and more depressed" and "amplifying ****** obsessive personality" to make them more unlikable so the player would focus on her instead. She confesses her love directly not to the protagonist, but to you the player. Monika will sit and talk to you indefinitely about various topics until you manually enter the game's directory and delete Monika's character file. Upon doing this, the game glitches once more and Monika panics as she's deleted from the game's world. However, she accepts that loving the player means letting them be happy, so she accepts you living happily without her.

The game starts over once again with Sayori, **** and Natsuki all alive and normal, playing out similarly to the initial playthrough (minus Monika). Shortly after meeting everyone, though, Sayori explains to the player that now that she's the president of the literature club, she knows everything about the game and what the player did.
Monika suddenly intervenes once more, claiming she's changed her mind, and the game glitches again. Monika then speaks audibly to the player (the only spoken dialogue in the game). She sings a song she had been preparing, which plays over the credits (which display all of the scenes available to witness in the game and erasing those the player failed to witness). The game ends with a thank you note from Monika, stating that she has disbanded the literature club because "there is no happiness" in it.

my favourite parts were probably

1. the music, at first it's happy and uplifting but by the end of the game it creeps you out since you start expecting things to pull a full 180 on you.

2. the little "glitches" for example when choosing poem words you see the chibis of the characters on the side and ****** face at one point becomes demonic for a split second making you do a double-take

It was a really great game. Another thing with the game files is I was playing it with the folder open on my second monitor, completely by chance, and when the game started glitching out, the game files are altered, some text documents appearing and weird pictures and stuff in the games directory.

I played it alone in a dark room in the middle of the night and hadn't really read anything about it other than it was supposedly scary. It did a really good job breaking the 4th wall in an effectively creepy way and it's a really creative concept for the game.

Thats not the full true ending, to get it u need to have gone thru all the routes until they "end" by reloading saves back to the beginning, then on the 4th time, you end up at the same point but after you do what you need to, there is a special thing after the credits, and its not monica with the thank you note.

I believe that there is a sequel hinted at within the game files as well, I'm doing more research on it but from everything I've seen, Team Salvato seems to be planning a straight up horror game that is somehow connected to DDLC and all the characters. Pretty interesting stuff

It's a visual novel. If you go into it not knowing anything about it and just thinking it's a visual novel you'll get a good spook out of it.
If you go into it expecting a game and knowing all about the horror elements you're going to be disappointed.

It's an interactive story, most games are just interactive stories, and most of the time the choices don't change the ending or the outcome, more often than that you aren't even given choices. the couches actually do matter, as they change the order of events, or how certain things happen, but they key points of the game don't change, just like EVERY other game.

Without spoiling too much, the game draws you in and lowers your guard by having you meet an all-female literature club in which every girl has an unique and charming personality.

It was marketed as a cliché sweet and cute magical girl show.
It keeps the guise going for a few episode, then things start going wrong, won't mention more specifics cause it would ruin a good amount of the fun.
It's a classic, even without the novelty of not knowing what's gonna happen, it's still a solid watch just cause it's directed quite well and the production quality's really high.
Though I'm a huge sucker for Shaft (heh, I mean the studio..) so take it with a grain of salt.
Also has a wonderful artstyle shift whenever they head into the Witch-Dimension thingy, amazing OST too:

Short answer: Magical girls with crippling depression

Long answer: Girl and her classmates meet this omnipotent alien thing who will grant them any wish so long as they sign a contract and become a guardian against "witches", beings that kill for no discernible reason. Turns out that the cute god thing is actually an alien trying to prevent the heat-death of the universe by fighting against entropy, and can only do so with the purity of small girls' souls. Then they learn that witches are actually previous magical girls who have had their hope for humanity shattered, thus letting their power and evil consume them and warp them into the demonic witches. Lots of sadness, contract signing, and devil contractual **** happens, and then Madoka wishes for all magical girls to be wiped from humanity's history, letting her bear the role of the first and only magical girl, holding the universe against entropy itself. Some **** with time travel happens, because black-haired magical girl is hungry for pink girl's pussy so she tries to stop the contract from being made.

Then the movies happen and they become allegorical Christ and Lucifer.

It's ******* weird m8.
