wasn't this picture taken when the family was on vacation? Don't forget, the Bin Ladins were a very rich family, they have one of the largest construction companies in the world
"We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people. For space science, like nuclear science and all technology, has no conscience of its own. Whether it will become a force for good or ill depends on man, and only if the United States occupies a position of pre-eminence can we help decide whether this new ocean will be a sea of peace or a new terrifying theater of war. I do not say that we should or will go unprotected against the hostile misuse of space any more than we go unprotected against the hostile use of land or sea, but I do say that space can be explored and mastered without feeding the fires of war, without repeating the mistakes that man has made in extending his writ around this globe of ours.
There is no strife, no prejudice, no national conflict in outer space as yet. Its hazards are hostile to us all. Its conquest deserves the best of all mankind, and its opportunity for peaceful cooperation may never come again. But why, some say, the Moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? ...
We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win .."

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending the best. They're not sending you, they're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. ... And some, I assume, are good people."
political influence from the us in the area during cold war era. making sure western-friendly regimes got to power, many dictators and nasty rulers under them.
after that backlash.
Well the burqa and the niqab are at least 3000 years old, and can be traced all the way back to Mesopotamian times, so women in that region have technically always been wearing "garbage bags."
the middle east was not heavily islam-rules in their daily lives before the cold war came to them.
here's a couple of pictures of Iran in the 60s and 70s.
soviet wanted to make the middle east communist, USA installed anyone willing to fight communists as leaders.
this just so happened to be a great way for radical muslim extremists to take power.
result: the middle east was radicalized, and many formerly promising nations became impoverished terror-regimes.
this is why when americans go "just nuke the whole middle-east and get rid of the problem" i want to punch them in the face and yell "you ******* created this!"
My history is a little ***** but I read a book a few years ago in school that was about the Islamic Revolution in Iran in the 70s. I think before it was basically an all right place and after it was like we know it now. This video kind of shows it in an interesting way.
Any of you guys watched this?
It's on the subject of Iran and the big changes they suffered around that time, I suggest you watch, I was skeptical at first "but...but it loks like a generic hipster indie movie! but ended up really enjoying it..
Iran 1960:
Pretty cool place. Not ideal, but hell of a lot better than now.
US starts ******* around with embassies and what not to make sure the guy the US wants becomes president. and so he does. Long story short: **** went down hill from there.
From what I recall the Iranian Prime Minister wanted to nationalize the Iranian oil fields, and pissed off the British. The Brits then convinced the US that Iran was in danger of falling under the USSR's influence, so they both staged a coup that overthrew the elected government and made the Shah the ruler of Iran. And said Shah wasn't exactly big on democracy, which pissed off the people and lead to him being overthrown by radical Muslims.
close but not quite, the Shar was TOO reformist, he pissed off the radical muslims through many western ideals, such as womens rights.
They did not like change.
" ******* around with embassies?" Are you referring to the time Iranians stormed sovereign soil and took American diplomats hostage? How is that US misbehavior?
Chill anon. That was the 1980s. This guy was talking about the 60s and 70s. Iran didn't want to be under the direction of the British and the West, and tried to strike out on their own and make their own path.
The UK doesn't like that, so they say that the Soviets are going to take over influencing and viola! The US and UK bring down the democratically elected leaders and instill their own dictator that is hated by the minority radicals, who now how a catalyst to fuel their words.
Then they take over, no one wins, and the Middle East goes to **** .
Iran really isn't that bad now. I'm not saying that it is good, but you have to be able to look at it without Western eyes. Yes there is oppression and relatively strict Islamic law, but most Iranians enjoy a halfway decent standard of living and are mostly secure. It would be good for them to no longer be a theocracy, but we have to leave that up to the people who live there to choose. Just because some people and places are vastly different, doesn't mean that they are wrong. Many Iranians probably have a similar view of the U.S. and Europe that many Westerners have of Iran.
Rich makes the rules
Huge difference in rich and poor
Rich only makes up 5-10%
Poor are ultra religious
Uprising
Rich leave
Poor make the rules
Bonus reason:
Christians, Jews and Muslims live in harmony
Europe decide they don't want no Jews in Europe no more
Create Israel
Israel take land because they want land
People say no, US say yes
So yes
People start blaming Jews
Ultra religious say "we must kill the Jews"
Fail
So much hate
So many of the fanatics
50 years later
Whole religion now of the fanatics.
Pretty much anyone with sigificant international influence has been ******* around in the Middle-East at some point. The British and the French are also to blame. Not just Russia and the US.
Reactionary Muslims. Islam used to be a religion of rationality and understanding the world and how it works, you know. Then the wrong people were put in power in the wrong places at the wrong time, and it all fell out from there. Also like 30-40 years of civil war will **** any country up- just ask Liberia.
Picture of Afghanistan in the 1950s.
Unfortunately, my beloved America had a huge hand in this by deposing rational rulers, installing despots that supported our interests, and funding terrorists groups. That ended up blowing up in both our and their faces.
Well to be fair there were a lot of bad things about it, tickets were more expensive (around 50% counting for inflation), and average wages were a lot lower so fewer could afford it. you were around 5 times more likely to die during a flight. If you don't like smoking you'd have a bad time as there were a lot of smoking on the flights, and as drinks mostly were free on flights most people got drunk to stave off boredom.
About that manta ray, it's likely not photoshopped at all. Though while they can reach that size, you'd be hard pressed to find such an impressive specimen these days. Since the 50's much of the larger fish species, once found in great numbers and sizes, have pretty much disappeared now.
What I'd pay to see the ocean in all it's former glory...
Perhaps, though that one is within the mature size range of a manta ray, abeitly the upper range. I wouldn't be too surprised if it was real in any case
I'm no hippie, but, the **** we've done to the world makes me butthurt. So many amazing things we can't see because we've killed them. Even something as boring as bison would be awesome to see in their megaherds of old.
If you watch wildlife documentaries, watch The African Lion. It's an old disney documentary. The size of the herds in that compared to their sizes in modern documentaries is somewhat depressing.
i feel ******* lied to by many people regarding John Lennon.
The man was a **** human, through and through, and i would have appreciated even the littlest amount of truth when it came to who he actually was, what he did to his gal and son, the way he ****** off on the rest of the band for that smarmy "art rock" panty waste cunt yoko.
i still like the music, but had I known, i wouldn't have idolized him like i did in my youth
well he was human. he admitted that he had psychological problems and he couldnt bear it so he god drugged, beat his women, had affairs etc. but he also tried to fight for world peace and didnt hide the things he did. he said about himself that he is terrible and that the most violent people want peace the most. im not defending the things he did but everyone should see the whole picture not just judge based on few facts of his private life or his music.
"All you need is love" Well, that's all you need, I need my couple of houses and a flight service at my whim, along with lovers across the planet and drugs....
He was a pretty **** person in general. There's no way around it. That shouldn't let you down if you truly believe in his message, though. Look up to ideas before men.
You and everyone who comes up with these ****** little pieces of rhetoric are the reason that retards believe everything they ******* read. I'm pretty sure the proof for that statement consists entirely of the fact that its counter-intuitive and seems smart because its contrary to popular belief.
He simply 'made good music' and 'was a bad person'.
Don't make the mistake that because he music makes you feel all nice and warm, that everything he does is a ******* statement. He was a guy, a musician and a ******* cunt.
that is his literal quote. and i said i do not defend his actions i just said that hateful cunts like you should first consider the whole story and not just bash everyone as trash because they are convinced that they know the ultimate truth about the whole universe
"he said about himself that he is terrible and that the most violent people want peace the most."
1. If even he himself said he was terrible, why the **** didn't he just stop being terrible? Declaring yourself to be **** means nothing if you're not going to do anything about it.
2. What ******** logic is that? So, what? The most peaceful and resilient people are the ones that want everyone to kill each other?
idk why do people with depression drink, cut themselves, commit suicide, ******** on internet or do other *************** . why dont they just stop themselves. he at least managed to admit the problem and tried to work on it. he was far from a saint but this fj ******** with hating on everyone based on one thing and ignoring everything else is just ridiculous
Well, people with depression need a therapist, or medicine, or someone to talk to about there problems. And the using the excuse that "everyone is human, we all have flaws" as a means to stop hate is stupid. Are we not allowed to hate anyone?
One thing I've always hated with growing up is finding out just how glorified certain people were and figuring out that people you considered to be absolute heroes weren't completely good or even mostly good.
In the end, the best thing to do is to make as balanced a perspective as humanly possible and try not to be jostled by glorifications or vilifications of character and look at everything as objectively as possible. It sounds like obvious common sense, but people even now still prefer to uphold tinted views on figures, whether they're musicians like Elvis or Lennon, or historical figures like the Founding Fathers of the US. Where this really becomes a problem is when these tinted views are applied in politics and real actions, and not just opinionated posts.
I read the Beatle biography, Shout! and it shed a lot light on how the Beatles treated each other and other folks around them. Ringo seemed to be the only guy that was a good **** out of the group although George wasn't all that bad, he could just be a real dick to his girlfriend/wife (and I'm sure the lack of respect towards his writing during the Beatles' run didn't help that). Ringo was even the only one who personally went to visit Yokel Ono when John was shot to express his condolences and console her.
Also, as far as the music goes, John is my favorite songwriter while they were together and George is my favorite after they all went solo.
