I think Notch is so-so everything (programmer/businessman) and will never do anything major again.

Just playing Devil's advocate here.

Being bought by facebook means the rift gets a ton more funds, and they're being allowed to operate independently. True it has implications that facebook will take control, but for now just means that the rift gets developed faster and better.
#15 to #14 - Hightower (03/26/2014) [-]
It also means those funds will go to developing ******* Farmville VR and other ******** facebook games. On it's own Oculus was a good idea with a ton of potential, now that it's under facebooks control, everything developed for it will be for social games. If I wanted to be social while I game, I probably wouldn't be in a ******* VR headset...

"Zuckerberg says that their efforts with Oculus will continue to focus on gaming initially, and that the company will continue to operate independently of Facebook. But after gaming, Zuckerberg says, they’re going to expand into a variety of other arenas."

Sure... "initially"

"Oh great! I can't wait to play Farmville with the Oculus!" - No one ever.

They couldn't have waited for Valve to come along and do something cool with the Oculus. Sellouts.

What were the Oculus guys thinking? 'I know gamers will hate us if we make this deal but...it's ******* two billion dollars man... **** it deal!'

There will be others, guys. It's not like the Oculus Rift will be the only one.

BEFORE (but really after) YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT FACEBOOK

just remember that you probably have one.
User avatar #71 to #65 - Awesomecarrot (03/26/2014) [-]
Yah, but I still feel completely fine being pissed off at them for this.
Like really, what is a social network going to do with a VR device?
It's just stupid. It's like Youtube buying a donut franchise.

The octopus drift was doomed anyway, sony's working on one now and would have cut them apart if it came to a competition. Sony has
a) an established brand with projects actually released
b) a brand new console
c) ********* of money and contacts
d) power to make games vr compatible
The thrift is a cool idea but sony's going to be the ones that make it work
#95 to #87 - hybredmoon (03/26/2014) [-]
You know what would have made rift successful that sony's stuff doesn't have?
PC compatability.

For anyone who doesn't know what's going on, Facebook bought the Oculus Rift.

I don't think Oculus is the next evolution in gaming.
To be honest everyone's talking about how great and amazing the Oculus is, I still just don't find it practical.
It really just honestly seems dumb to me. Just my opinion though.

Jesus Christ, are you guys so scared about it? I mean honestly, more funding for the rift is good thing

>inb4 VR Farmville

Facebook is a business, they know nobody wants that, they may include some social network type features as options, but overall I believe they'll leave it to the devs and just make a profit. If anything Facebook might make it better, I mean, ITS ******* FACEBOOK FOR GODS SAKE, they know who would be interested in buying it and who wouldn't, and throughthepower of likes, can see who gamers are and what they're actually interested in. They know who the target audience And what they want, no matter what you think about it on a personal level.

Tldr: Facebook is a successful business that isn't run by complete idiots
User avatar #121 - skulldan ONLINE (03/27/2014) [+] (4 replies)
facebook hasnt "ruined" anything they have bought, all they did was take profits after taking control. Nothing wrong with standing in the background doing what you can to make money, government does it.
