Truth be told, that's more than half the reason I want the US to beat more European teams. Not for reinforcing thir patriotism, but for imagining the butthurt. No I dont want the US to win because it will start a revolution here in Brasil if Brasil doesn't win. Im serious. I want as many butthurt Europeans as possible without the revolution.

Fake fans are everywhere, they didn't just come out during the world cup. It's fine that you don't like the people who only show up for the big games, but believe it or not a whole lot of Americans actually enjoy soccer and support different clubs year round.

****** true, MLS is getting bigger and bigger every year. The Portland Timbers sell out every game, even since their first game I think.

Well, look at it like a percentage. How much % of USA actually gives a **** about Football/Soccer ? 0.5%? 5%?

Now, What about Germany (and most of Europe)? 80%? Lets just be fair and say 50%. You can still see its a ******* huge margin.

Of course there are fans of soccer in USA, but thats because the USA is the size of the whole Europe combined, not because it's ingrained into your culture.

Picture the same situation with American Football or Baseball or Hockey or whatever you prefer. You would find the picture fair.

So a team's success should be based on the size of their fanbase by percentage in the home country.

If you're going to talk about why Germany should win, talk about how Germany is a better team, not about irrelevant things like fan fidelity and saturation.

Also, you're pulling percentages out of your ass with literally no data to back it up, making your point completely moot.
User avatar #43 to #34 - foxlift ONLINE (06/27/2014) [-]
Yo I didn't say I agree with it. I was explaining why people think that way. I don't even like sports in general, other than being a couch cancer.

And yeah, the percentages are pulled out of my ass. I was just trying to make an example. But you know it shouldn't be too far from that.

Just because people only watch it during the world cup doesn't mean they aren't fans. I mean really. What about the people who only watch the super bowl so that they can have a party. I think its great that people come together every 4 years to cheer on the american team.

Soccer is a major sport in America.
I dare you to find a school or park that doesn't have a soccer pitch.
I don't have the data, but I'm willing to bet its the #1 youth sport played in the US.
We have 19 professional soccer clubs in our top League (MLS), with 2 other professional level leagues below that (the NASL and the USL). Each with their own list of teams.

Just because we don't riot in stadiums or start pub brawls, doesn't mean we don't love "Futbol".

More importantly,
"America loves a winner"- George S. Patton

We don't care if its the World Cup or a game of hop scotch. American's play to win. 2nd place is only first loser. Competition is part of our national culture. Hell, we race between stop lights here. You give two American house wives grocery carts and they'll ram each other out of line just to say they finished shopping first.

The world should actually be thankful that soccer isn't more popular here. Do you have any idea what it would look like if we took the energy we put into the NFL and focused that on Soccer?
I think the rest of the world shudders at the thought of an American World Cup championship.
#126 to #94 - someguyonthewebz (06/27/2014) [-]
I would love to see America actually take Soccer more seriously. I used to play it when I was a kid and it's by far my most favorite sport that I never watch. (Football is more the thing in Texas.)

So..

Nobody's expecting us (Belgians) to beat the USA?

Oh well, we won three games. We're all happy here, especially since we haven't even been in a world cup in ages.
User avatar #168 to #92 - Epicgetguy (06/28/2014) [-]
You played Korea, Russia, and Algeria, three of the easiest teams in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, we had to deal with Portugal, Ghana (Who, by the way, kicked our asses TWICE in the previous cups) and Germany, who we held on our own just fine. We weren't even expected to get out of our group.

Although, if you do end up beating us, good luck Belgium guy.

America also has year round fans. There are just less of them. To say that there are none is just ignorant. (last sentence about the content)
User avatar #93 to #71 - moonboon (06/27/2014) [-]
Also the differences in populations is baffling if you actually think about it, most European countries populations barely reach over 60 thousand, with the exceptions of France and Germany, which basically means that the percentage of fans is different, but the amounts are actually quite close
