That last one is a really good tip.

You can also just uae grammarly which has some pretty godd grammatical checking, better then word anyway

You clearly did not use this "grammarly".

"I've finished my dissertation, better make sure I haven't ****** anything up in this." - Lots of people.
User avatar #94 to #85 - elcreepo ONLINE (10/04/2015) [-]
Pretty much every single doctorate student does this with their dissertation, if you can't do this with a simple 6,000 word paper you're retarded
User avatar #109 to #94 - emiyashirou (10/04/2015) [-]
Honestly I don't see how it could be more efficient to listen to things in google translate compared to checking it manually. The speed it reads that stuff is slow as **** , you're gonna have to sit and listen for at least an hour even for a simple 6000 word paper.

I mean, for an important project like a doctorate paper where you're gonna want to check for mistakes a multiple times, sure, it's probably a good idea. For a 6000 word paper it just isn't worth the effort though.
User avatar #111 to #109 - corycool ONLINE (10/04/2015) [-]
Because it's your paper. so when you read it it's more likely you'll read it as how you want it to sound not how it actually sounds.

>not worth the effort simply by sitting and listening

User avatar #181 to #177 - emiyashirou (10/04/2015) [-]
Yeah, except you're going to have to sit and concentrate on picking out grammar errors from speech for 45 minutes. While you could use the magical grammar checking and spellcheck functions in word to do it in a 30 seconds.
User avatar #220 to #181 - elcreepo ONLINE (10/05/2015) [-]
Guess what, magical grammar and word tools don't find things like run on sentences and hanging participials, **** that if you're a doctorate student you should never have in your dissertation, because it makes you sound like you didn't learn a damn thing.

You have to read the whole thing out loud. And what's better, reading it yourself, or reading it with google, both of which are gonna be slow, but at least with one you only do half the effort?
#184 to #181 - anisbanana ONLINE (10/04/2015) [-]
Magical grammar and spellcheck functions will not pick up things like hanging participles, but will easily be noticable if read outloud. To what ungodly school did you go to where it took you 45 minutes to read about 1200 words? The google translate voice reads at 120 words per minute, which would amount to 10 minutes of listening. #rekt
User avatar #189 to #184 - emiyashirou (10/04/2015) [-]
To what ungodly school did you go to where you don't have basic reading comprehension?

6000 words at 120 words a minute is 50 minutes, which, guess what? Is more than 45 minutes.
User avatar #182 to #181 - emiyashirou (10/04/2015) [-]

The best way to absorb information:
*see it
*hear it
*do it

By writing and re-reading your own work, you've already satisfied two of the criteria. Hearing it is the last step. It's a change of pace from reading the material and give you one more chance to catch mistakes and perceive the material from another person's point of view.
User avatar #219 to #109 - elcreepo ONLINE (10/05/2015) [-]
You miss a ******* of stuff by not reading it out loud, and some people would rather not read all those pages out loud.

Every student I've ever known who writes good papers are students who read it out loud in some form. Some **** CAN'T be caught by spellcheck or other automated systems.

Sentence structure errors and run on sentences are hard to find just by eye alone.

Also checking it manually by sight is WAY slower than being read... just saying. Google translate does the effort of making sure it sounds correct

6000 words is literally nothing. You're either retarded or you have the attention span of a fly. Or both.
User avatar #143 to #141 - emiyashirou (10/04/2015) [-]
Google translate takes at least 45 minutes to read that much out loud.
User avatar #190 to #143 - pinethrush (10/04/2015) [-]
You wouldn't want to spend another 45 minutes just making sure you don't lose points for dumb ******* typing errors? If you've spent hours writing a 6,000 word paper, then 45 minutes is nothing.
User avatar #191 to #190 - emiyashirou (10/04/2015) [-]
I do check my work for errors, but not by sitting on my ass and listening to google read my entire paper out loud.
User avatar #192 to #191 - pinethrush (10/04/2015) [-]
You're bound to miss some that you would have otherwise noticed if the paper was read out loud to you. If you don't like google reading it to you, then get a friend to read it. That way they can also help you on the paper itself, rather than grammar and spelling and **** .
User avatar #145 to #143 - alltimetens (10/04/2015) [-]
I'd rather listen for 45 minutes than risk losing points for ****** errors.

Then again, I hardly ever make errors when it comes to writing essays.

Exposure of neck and inner wrists
User avatar #87 to #82 - infinitereaper (10/04/2015) [-]
When a person is frightened they will instinctively tense up and move to protect their vulnerable parts. The opposite is also true. For example, girls who find you attractive, will open up their legs more when they are standing towards you, and close them more with everybody else. It's unconscious behavior like this that you can learn to read sometimes.
User avatar #93 to #87 - newprinny (10/04/2015) [-]

Just means you're the submissive one

There are straight men and women who act their opposites too, and lesbian women can be either way also

Women just generally get the "submissive" role but I know plenty of straight chicks who are the man in their relationship... and act every bit of it.

User avatar #218 to #144 - elcreepo ONLINE (10/05/2015) [-]
There's always at least one in every group of them. The one that leads them. She attracts submissive/weaker girls to her like a queen bee.

The ones that are loners, too, tend to be very strong and assertive, which comes off as being a bitch and can leave them with no female friends.

Also any prestigious school, like medical or law, has some pretty ballsy women.

Also BDSM chats have a lot of subs and doms looking for partners

I guess that could have something to do with it but I don't think that's the case. When I'm feeling bored or disinterested I tend to feel all stiff and constrained.
