Don't worry. Because of the crippling fear of being alone, I was in quite a lot of relationships, some rather lasting, without feeling anything, even sexual desire
I've had a total of 3 relationships thus far where I was in love with a few dozen not even close

Almost same here, she didn't cheat (to my knowledge), she just broke up way too early (We both still had feelings for each other, she just felt like the time apart hurt too much) ((It was long distance and stuff, I was planning a surprise visit but because of school, I wouldn't have had time until this summer))
(((We're still friends, I'm not over her but I told her I was back when I had that week or so after a breakup where you think you are and I haven't dared correct myself yet))
Sorry for the huge wall of text
inb4 "not even close to the feeling of being cheated on" to which my response is that you may be right and I'm sorry you had to go through that

I'm feeling you there. I also had a long-distance thing with a girl that I truly loved, but the distance was too much for her and she fell for another guy. I know that she hasn't made a move yet on him, because of too low self-esteem and self-respect. I bought two tickets for us to an even near where she lives (before she broke up with me), but she turned me down.

I don't think much about her anymore, but if she wanted to be back together, I don't think I could resist.

It doesn't translate like that. It's stories, not plays. Romeo and Julie doesn't get funnier as time pass, but you can start to joke about ww2 or similar.

Guys, guys. It's a tragic satire. It's making fun of how dramatic Italians and teenagers are, and showing how terribly things can go when you think with your genitals and not your head. Of course, because it's a satire, it's exaggerating all of these aspects heavily to make its point.
User avatar #4 to #1 - Zydratejunkie (01/09/2014) [-]

I fell in love in 3rd grade. For no particular reason, it was more of a crush and I didn't entirely understand but I never forgot about her. Many years later while I was still in high school the same girl fell in love with me. I'd only loved one person my entire life, and that love, like a miracle was returned. We found each other, and I guess I always knew. I have to say it was something special, and it really made me a person that I really needed to be.

Regardless of what anyone says, I know that love was the real deal. For a moment I grasped something people spend their entire lives searching for. It was the happiest time in my life. How can I describe it? "Having someone that accepts and loves you despite all of your flaws, someone that understands you... someone that isn't obliged to love you. Someone that loves you, for you. " Feeling like your whole and that you have something to live for. Like all of a sudden you have something to lose. All of a sudden there is someone to protect. And you'd stake your entire life on that.

And then we were torn apart and everything ended horribly.

So I think. Often regardless of age you can find love, but if you lose that love you have to live with it for the rest of your life.

I fell in love when he walked into class in the 4th grade. He asked me out when I was 13, and 6 years later we're still together. We've never had a breakup, never cheated (of course, I put my full trust in him, and he, me.), and though I want to be a mother more than anything in the world--I'm not ready.
I'm not going to say it was all roses and chocolate. It was hard. My family was upper middle-class and he was dirt poor. Many times I would pay for our dates and meals and spend all of my money on him. We argue, we fight, I'm much more mature and down-to-earth than he is. We're nothing alike. He's a country-boy, big trucks and hunting is his forte. I'm an Alternative Rock girl that hates when people kill animals and doesn't really like meat (Yes, I eat it, but it has to be well-done.)

Relationships are hard. But you can't just give up. If you can look back and say, "I don't know why I liked them." then you were never truly in love in the first place. It's a strange, and believe it or not, annoying feeling. It's tiresome and awesome at the same time. Love itself is an oxymoron of sorts.

I know how you feel from the other end. My family is upper middle class, my last girlfriend was in the one percent and the girl I'm with is in the two percent. It doesn't look so bad that I'm in the 5% but once you get to that range the amount of money increases dramatically over percentage.
User avatar #98 to #15 - infinitereaper ONLINE (01/09/2014) [-]
I know the feeling, she and I were nothing alike. But we were perfect for each other. We would argue sometimes, over trivial things, but fight? Not really. I'm a strange person, and so is she. However, I'm far stranger, and I often think that only someone as unique as unique as her could ever love me. But that's all over. All I know is that all those possibilities are gone. She's gone. There is nothing to cherish anymore. Nothing to protect. No one to live for. Nothing to lose.

It's quite an empty feeling.

At that point i was planning the breakup and texted " somthing like this is alot to handle" then she said maybe im not right for u and to think about it.and i said ok making like i was all sad and stuff.Fast forward about a week honestly i forgot about the text because Battlefield 3.

I ran into her a few times after..her self shame gives me power....as i said those moments are like gold ******* dust and i saw my opportunit and taken them. User avatar #58 to #42 - pokimone (01/09/2014) [-]
Its implied that he's in his early 20s, but an official age is never really stated. Its generally agreed that hes between 20-25 though. People often also forget, that while it was common for older men to marry younger women back then, that Romeo and Juiliet are a work of fiction... Using it as a frame of reference for a relationship is like saying "Hermione and Ron worked out just fine, and they didn't get along at first." or something like that.
User avatar #76 to #58 - kinginyellow (01/09/2014) [-]
I'd say his maturity level puts him lower, around 16-18 level. They also mention his only experience of love being Rosaline, so he doesn't seem that old if he only had one fling for a few days.
#50 to #42 - John Cena (01/09/2014) [-]
Same anon
In higher classes it was actually preferred very young girls got with rich upperclass men. The older and richer, the more likely a father would give their teenage daughter to them in return for status and wealth. So for all we know romeo might have been a very mature man.

It was a tragedy not a romance

And since Shakespear was pretty much a clever, double edged sword with a pen (see Hamlet), it was probably intended to be a satire ABOUT romance in the form of a tragedy.

Stupid teenage girls.
User avatar #90 to #60 - kinginyellow (01/09/2014) [-]
Hamlet man....that ending was just a massive *********** . I kept wondering why most of the characters weren't dead and then BAM, everyone gonna die.

And all the references to Oedipus and the whole "everyone hates the truth so they live in the lies"

My senior year English teacher had a fetish for stories with horrible endings (of all the books we read, Ethan Frome was the only one where nobody died, and they were horribly disfigured for life) and we were pretty used to it by the time we reached Hamlet, but once we realized why everyone died the whole room just got silent.

Watch Romeo and Juliet films. Plays. The book itself.
He was old enough to where he thought he would die any day, which back then, 40 was considered incredibly old and on borrowed time.
#79 to #72 - juffs (01/09/2014) [-]
Okay, that's a misconception. The average lifespan was 40 because of the INSANE rates of child mortality. Kids dropping left and right from all sorts of **** because there are no hospitals to fix them.

The accepted rule of thumb was that if a man lived to see twenty, he could expect to see seventy
User avatar #78 to #72 - bossguycumsplash ONLINE (01/09/2014) [-]
Might as well point out he was overly dramatic, also every resource I can find mostly education related sites say 16ish, given that 40 was considered old he was described as "A young man". If you can find some solid proof that I cant do link it.
User avatar #74 to #72 - kinginyellow (01/09/2014) [-]
Dude, Romeo is closer to 18, probably under. That's why he's still so immature about love and has only ever really found one woman (Rosaline) by then.
User avatar #77 to #74 - niggershrimps (01/09/2014) [-]
No, he REALLY isn't. Please do some research.
User avatar #80 to #77 - kinginyellow (01/09/2014) [-]
You actually might want to do some research. His age is NEVER shown in the play, and your only "proof" is to watch the films, and one line you claim to be in the play without actually giving a line, page, act, or scene. I actually bothered to look it up, and it's implies he's still around a teen because of his maturity level and how quickly he jumps on his infatuation with Juliet.
User avatar #83 to #80 - niggershrimps (01/09/2014) [-]
Hurr durr it doesn't say the age so you must be right and I must be wrong.
User avatar #84 to #83 - kinginyellow (01/09/2014) [-]
You're just acting like an idiot now. Still can't tell me where that line is?
User avatar #85 to #84 - niggershrimps (01/09/2014) [-]
Find where it says he's 18 or younger and I'll shut up.
User avatar #88 to #85 - kinginyellow (01/09/2014) [-]
I never said it stated his age bracket, that's where you're getting butthurt. I said he's not closer to late 20's because of his lack of maturity and the fact that he's only ever had one relationship, barely, and he quickly jumps on the "love bandwagon". That along with his vocabulary spells out younger person, most likely teen. He's even described in most of the play books as a "young man", so if YOU say 40 is the limit, young would be way less than 25.
User avatar #99 to #88 - niggershrimps (01/09/2014) [-]
