Not 100% proof, but still pretty likely. And also, well, the fact that he attacks you is sort of a hint I guess? Everyone from Carim tends to backstab the player in DS1, irrc.

you can pretty much see from some screenshots about Dark Souls 3 that the Main character still uses heavy armor meaning that the Hollow menance is still going on
