All captive white tigers are descended from one male that was caught in Siberia. As a result, they are massively inbred. The white tigers on display simply have the least apparent defects. A white tiger I worked with was a beautiful specimen but had a compromised immune system and died from a common infection. pic related its me with the tiger

It's pretty sickening that zoos are willing to purposely inbreed (not ****** S. American or Middle Eastern zoos, but ones like Barcelona, San Diego, etc.) rare animals with albinism mutations because of this **** being spouted to the public (and the subsequent demand) about how white tigers are so rare and all that crap, rather than understanding it's just a mutation. And not necessarily a beneficial one.

It is really unfortunate. While volunteering at a local vet clinic, one of our younger vets was studying further into zoology and told me about the inbreeding malpractice. He said proper breeding requires them to mate with another unrelated tiger/tigress in hopes for a chance of the white coat mutation kicking in. Just like how one kid out of an entire family of brown eyes, is born with blue eyes. Wish the vet achieves his goal fast enough to save whatever is left of the species.

Reminds me of yin yang.
User avatar #74 to #32 - quasimodem (01/22/2014) [-]
Isn't a yin yang symbol one with a dragon and a tiger.

I'm just asking, not trying to say you're wrong
User avatar #153 to #74 - zeroqp (01/22/2014) [-]
Oh, that I don't know. I haven't even heard of the tiger and the dragon (but they both sound like they have connections to Chinese culture and history just like Yin Yang does. I was just refering to the fact that in the picture one of the cats is dark and the other is light and they are both oriented like yin yang.

Most animals (or all, can't remember) have antiseptic saliva. That's why when you hurt your finger your first instinct is to stick it in your mouth
#104 to #89 - innocentbabies (01/22/2014) [-]
At the same time though, there's a ******** of nasty crap in your mouth, so I would advise against that over, say, soap and water.
