Sigh... there goes the Flash drive ordered.

Idiots drove it straight onto a reef near Tauranga New Zealand, still cleaning it up 2 years later

Well no wonder it went wrong. You're supposed to sail a ship, not drive it.

Fun fact. most likely the ship company probably isn't paying a dime for this.

When something like this happens, unless it is directly linked to a fault by the captain they will declare havari gross.
Basically this means that everyone with goods on that ship has to pay for the cleanup afterwards which needless to say has bankrupted quite a few companies ^^.

I did not know shipping containers were attached to each other. I thought they were just stacked up.

Well if they weren't then it would be very easy for one on the top to kind of fall off as the ship swayed. I'm sure they're usually very tightly bolted down

I did not know there was that much sway on cargo ships. Also I thought they weighed everything before they loaded it to make sure the ship wasn't top heavy

I don't know much about ships but I've been on a large cruise ship and the ship does sway sometimes. and you can feel it. I think its just the currents. And again, this ship hit a reef

I'd like to know how it happened

I **** you not, it was because the dumb **** crew decided not to look at the charts. Seriously

Happened in New Zealand. Rena strayed off the shipping lane and struck a reef off Tauranga. Parts of the ship are still there and there is an argument as to whether to get rid of the last section of the corpse or leave it there.
