#70 to #1 - Rascal (07/04/2014) [-]
I don't mean to start any **** here, although I probably will.

Anyway, most politicians are religious whereas most comedians are atheists.

I'm glad one is getting more respect.
User avatar #5 to #1 - worldatarms (07/04/2014) [-]
Makes sense, the majority of comedians I know have a degree in a completely different subject

Being a successful politician is measured by the ability to get elected, and re-elected by correctly representing their constituents.
Being a successful satirist is measured by the ability to get people to laugh while also making a people think.

Both professions require intelligence, but they use their intelligence in very different ways.
User avatar #36 to #14 - phudgepacker (07/04/2014) [-]
exactly. politicians are like social professionals, whereas engineers, scientists, etc are technical professionals. you may come off as 'intelligent' as a politician, but that just means you have good people skills. doesn't always equate to the best policies and decision making
#39 to #36 - apexhawk (07/04/2014) [-]
Listing the differences in thinking, decision making and articulation between politicians and comedians would require a lenghty essay, but that's pretty much what it comes down to.
User avatar #41 to #39 - phudgepacker (07/04/2014) [-]
also a lot of the decisions made during the bush administration were made by his cabinet, again because he was a poor leader he wasnt able to assert himself and make good compromises, which led to, in my opinion, a lot of the bad results that came from his term
User avatar #40 to #39 - phudgepacker (07/04/2014) [-]
i think its actually kind of ironic how bush (who i totally think he was a terrible president) is portrayed as really stupid and moronic in the media, when in reality i think he is actually a really intelligent guy. granted, he had a hell of an advantage getting elected because of his family. I just think he was a horrible leader, which is what being a president ultimately boils down to

Maybe that's because nowadays comedians tend to raise valid problems in society while the politicians keep talking while achieving nothing, making them look like a ******* joke.

Bush achieved a very significant amount, he privatized half of the government and put the US into two wars. He moved more than a trillion dollars from the government (i.e. taxpayers) and gave it to his fellow rich people.
People always treat Bush like an idiot but he managed to dupe most of the US through media collusion and sold the country to his friends. Evil perhaps, but not dumb
And I know Cheney was probably a bigger player but still, he started your country down a terrible path that was to his direct benefit
#59 to #16 - Rascal (07/04/2014) [-]
I can tell you are a retard when you are blaming Bush. Obama The Traitor let countless terrorist go, somehow ****** the economy to hell all while being openly corrupt, using executive power to go around congress and golfing the rest of it.
#64 to #59 - Rascal (07/04/2014) [-]
All of the bad things that Obama is doing are an extension of Bush's policies. The NSA, two wars, ridiculous debt, and a general reduction of rights all happened under Bush, Obama is just continuing these things.
He's still ****** , because he's a sell-out and has no real political leanings to the left or the right; just money. But Bush was worse, he took advantage of 9/11 to make money
User avatar #86 to #64 - Ashtaroth (07/04/2014) [-]
And what Bush did was mainly a continuation of what Clinton did, of what Bush 1 did, of what Reagan did, etc. etc. ad nauseum.
#87 to #86 - twilightdusk ONLINE (07/04/2014) [-]
Didn't we have a budget surplus when Clinton left office though? The country going into massive debt can at least be blamed on Bush.
User avatar #89 to #87 - Ashtaroth (07/04/2014) [-]
Yeah, we did have a budget surplus. The thing was, we achieved it by telling banks to do pretty much whatever they had to to get anyone who asked into a home, even if said people's grandchildren would never be able to pay it off. So we had a bunch of tax revenue that should never have existed in the first place. Bush even raised red flags about it when he entered office but was told by the then Democrat majority "don't worry bro. We got this handled." In the interest of working across the aisle, Bush made the biggest mistake of his presidency and actually listened to them.

#90 to #15 - twilightdusk ONLINE (07/04/2014) [-]
People need to know who you are in order to vote for you, you need to be able to get your message out. You need to have money in order to buy ad space in newspapers, television networks, buy your way onto whatever debates are being held for the position, etc. There are only two real ways to do this:

1) Be stupidly rich, far beyond anything that approaches being the average American citizen.
2) Sign up to be the candidate for one of the political parties, in which case they fund your campaign and in exchange you do whatever they tell you to do, say whatever they tell you to say, and ultimately serve their donors first and the rest of the American population second.

It's also interesting to note that, while congress as a whole has a 13% approval rating right now, people tend to have a favorable opinion of their own representatives. It seems that most people have a general opinion of "Congress is lazy, corrupt, and never manages to get anything done, but my representatives are good people!"

Fox isn't even close to the worst offender. MSNBC is horrific and CNN is terrible too.

Also it's more like Fox and the other news stations are playing to what the politicians say, not the other way around.
#49 to #33 - Rascal (07/04/2014) [-]
MSNBC has several partisan liberal programs and only one major conservative and thus leans liberal. Depending on the time of day they may seem to be liberal or conservative.

CNN is mindlessly centrist- they avoid any form of analysis like poison and just parrot what the respective parties say. If there is analysis it will be in terms of the political horse race ("Democrats claim X and Republicans claim Y- good or bad news for the president?") and never in terms of adjudicating fact. Mostly they just chase sensationalism.

FOX News is pure propaganda- they openly lie and misrepresent facts, directly collude with the Republican Party in deciding what to cover and how, and promote false narratives. The daily messaging that is to be communicated is distributed to each program and they all reinforce each other, day after day. That is unique among american news channels and goes beyond being a partisan conservative station. There is no other US 24 hour news station that operates like this.

This is mainly because most people think they understand politics when they really have no clue what's going on.

People rather accept an easy explanation of current events rather than the truth. Comedians try (emphasis on try) to explain things, but they usually get many things wrong because people won't ever notice. They bash on one side because it's popular and gets ratings. Remember, comedians are not there to provide facts but they're there to get popular and receive ratings.

Name a couple politicians on the top of your head. Do you know who your mayor is? The Superintendent of your school system? Can you list some political values you hold that does not deal with the "kids meal of politics" (i.e. gay rights, gun rights, marijuana, etc.)?

Don't take politics seriously, but not because of some ******** reason. Don't take politics seriously because you're apathetic and don't have the time nor the energy to comprehend and analyze our current situations.

Well, I'm not defending politicians per se, I just think a sober mind is required when making statements that are along the lines of "I'm gonna replace someone stupid and ridiculous by accident with someone stupid and ridiculous on purpose. That'll fix my government".

I'd rather a degree of plutocracy almost... The fact that people who do not understand science are the chief of committees responsible for federal funding of scientific endeavors is ridiculous.

I do wonder why our politicians don't need to pass some degree of aptitude test to run for higher office... Is it considered discrimination to want to filter out stupidity and narrow scopes of knowledge from congress?

inB4 everyone in the comments hating on Fox News... nevermind.

Seriously though, So many people seem to hate on Fox, but when I ask people why they usually can't cite any specific examples, or their argument boils down to "Bill O'rielly defended Christianity/something I don't agree with and therefore he is a big stupid poopy head"

I'm not saying that Fox doesn't have bias, nor am I saying it is better/worse than other news stations. But if you're going to hate on something based on popular opinion and vague statements, then you're kind of just as bad as those you claim to be more informed than.

Militant is a strong word, but perhaps an apt one. To their credit, Fox will often cover stories that other news channels won't touch, so in that respect they are a bit more balanced.

All I see is a not so clever way to passively denounce Obama and his endless failures and **** ups while clinging to your said, illogical, and ultimately doomed lib-tard ideals of taking away from those to get free stuff from da guv'munt.

And none of you ******** EVER call out for lower income tax to help the hundreds of millions of wal-mart/minimum wage employees. Instead you demand that Wal-mart/every employer pay them MORE just so they will turn around and increase the prices of their products and services thus punishing everyone in the long run via inflation. This vicious cycle has been repeated over and OVER AND OVER since the inception of the "minimum wage" (inflation driver).
