So That's Why.... . This is why they renew Spiderman.

I'd take a weird looking dude over a pretty boy that is supposed to get bullied within High School. Honestly, I can't imagine a man like Andrew Garfield getting bullied in high school. Toby was weird and awkward.

I would of picked Evans Peters, personally.

He may be a pretty boy but doesn't personality come into play? He was socially ackward in the way he acted. And he looks pretty weird lookin' to me
#47 to #37 - robbuck (01/23/2014) [-]
nah the new spider man actor plays his role like the dumb popular kid. yet somehow hes smart and gets picked on?
#123 to #37 - thevoodoofrog (01/23/2014) [-]
The dude dresses well, looks good, is super intelligent, rides a ******* SKATEBOARD, and aside from his awkwardness, he would be the kind of guy that everyone would want to hang out with in highschool.

The fact that he's bullied at all is retarded.
#136 to #123 - kez (01/23/2014) [-]
Hes bullied cos his personality.

You prob get bullied and blame it on you not being good looking enough or something not your fault.

Its your personality.

He was without a doubt the best Spiderman. He was geeky and socially awkward, just as Parker should be. It was easy for me to relate to him when I saw His movies when I was much much younger. He also had the best one liners.

Garfield was like that cool guy in high school, where just about everything went his way. Plus, the cgi in that movie was crap.

THANK YOU! Everyone I complain to about the cgi looking retarded acted like I was stupid. Sure, there are a few moments in the first spiderman when the special effects weren't good, but some in the new series actually distracted me with how silly and out of place it was.
User avatar #111 to #110 - wilfredfanforever (01/23/2014) [-]
I've seen better cgi in the corny sc-fi channel super shark movies. They made the cgi just look silly. Have you seen the latest Wolfman movie? if they had those kind of makeup artists making The Lizard, then it would have been much better.
User avatar #112 to #111 - ThpiderMan (01/23/2014) [-]
The lizard was just a disaster. It looked like someone clumsily edited in a video game character.
User avatar #113 to #112 - wilfredfanforever (01/23/2014) [-]
God, The Lizard was just a huge ******* mess. On a side note, what did you think of Spiderman 3? it got a lot of **** but I really really liked it.
User avatar #116 to #113 - ThpiderMan (01/23/2014) [-]
I consider it the worst of the trilogy, but it's not terrible like people say. Is the whole emo-spidey dancing down the street a little silly? Yeah, but I thought it was tongue-in-cheek, self aware of it's ludicrousness, but some people saw it and thought it was being serious and took it as such. I didn't like the Sandman much, but he's one of my least favorite spider man villians, so that was to be expected, even if sandman teaming up with the baddies was one of the worst parts of the whole series. It seemed very forced, which is one reason I wasn't too sad when they didn't make a 4, as many villians/good guys that were present, it'd probably turn into a free for all battle royal of stars trying to get you to notice them. I also expected a lot more out of New Goblin. In retrospect it's a above average movie, but at the time I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little dissapointed.
User avatar #117 to #116 - wilfredfanforever (01/23/2014) [-]
I can agree for the most part. I liked the silly dancing, I took it as a joke and comic relief from the whole, "Oh Mary Jane hates me" drama bomb. I Thought the Sandman was interesting and actually liked him and why he did what he did. I would of liked to see more of Venom in the story, that guy is my all time favorite Marvel Villain.
User avatar #118 to #117 - ThpiderMan (01/23/2014) [-]
I like the actor for Sandman, I liked the backstory in the movie of sandman, but I just hated his motivation for joining venom in the end, and after Venom is defeated, Sandman's just like "lol I guess I'm not evil now".
User avatar #119 to #118 - wilfredfanforever (01/23/2014) [-]
Same here. After he was done with Venom and Sandman showed up, I thought, " alright, that's one down, now take care of the other one." But Then sandman was like, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it". Then Spidey was like, "Ah it's cool bro, don't worry about it."
User avatar #120 to #119 - ThpiderMan (01/23/2014) [-]
It felt like the budget ran out. It really hurt the movie in my view, because Sandman was pretty compelling until the last half hour of the movie.

A good actor is a good actor, no matter how he looks. It's wrong that the movie industry prefers ****** actors with pretty faces (before you ask, yes, I do think Andrew Garfield is horrible as Spiderman) over average looking, but good actors. Since when are heroes defined by their sex appeal, anyway?
Same with actresses. I find Emma Stone fitting for the role of Gwen, so I can't complain, but there's a lot of movies with main roles played by hot chicks with no acting abilities whatsoever. It would make a lot of movies better and more realistic if they just focused on acting instead of looks.
#32 to #7 - mayoroftownsville (01/23/2014) [-]
It's not about him not being good looking, it's about all the weird-ass faces he makes.
User avatar #58 to #7 - bronybox (01/23/2014) [-]
Heroes have always been defined by their sex appeal.
It's kind of, like, the basic hero stereotype to be brave, dashing, and charismatic.

hulk, the thing, metamorpho,batman....but yeah most parts dashing and handsome
User avatar #162 to #144 - bronybox (01/24/2014) [-]
Heroes such as the Hulk and Superman stem from a different appeal, rather than being intrinsically heroic, they are awkward, and most all relateable.

Batman is a charming sexy mfer

You seem to forget that they usually depict Peter Parker as a pretty boy in the comics. What Toby nailed was the awkwardness of a full-blown nerd, but compared being Spider-Man to Andrew, he sucked. Garfield did a superb job as being Spidey.Though I'll admit, the first Spider-Man movie will always be one of my favorite superhero movies, even if the first reboot movie is better.

Garfield played Spiderman much more true to the character though.

Yes, toby came off as a better loser Peter, but that's about it.

This is why they never should've remade Spider-Man.
#50 - naroemcgarson (01/23/2014) [-]
I like him as spider man because of this. I mean he had his own personality and flaws, he looks and acts like a nerdy teen (which is exactly what Peter Parker is supposed to be) instead of just another cut past pretty boy super hero character. It is not like they went back and remade Curse of the Black Pearl because Johnny Depp was too eccentric as Jack Sparrow. (only spider man pic I have)

I've read a **** ton of people say that this is why Tobey is the better Spiderman, not the worse one. But they say it's because Peter Parker is supposed to be a geeky, awkward, overall dork guy and Tobey fits the bill in a lot of ways (more than Andrew Garfield, at least).

While I think this is really true, you gotta remember that in these movies, Spiderman actually fights people. And he figures out his powers as the first person to ever discover them - he was as shocked as anyone would have been; there had never been a case like this before. So unlike Captain America or Thor that had people tell them what they could and couldn't do with their powers, Parker figured it out on his own. Hence the often goofy facial expressions.

Not to mention that not everyone in the ******* world can get thrown out of a jet and look pretty afterwards

tldr: Maguire does a lot better job at being Spiderman because he acts as Parker would have.

I think both of them are good at being Spiderman. You know how comic book people reboot series and they use a different artist? It's kinda like that. I like the spiderman movies that I grew up watching, but the new ones entail a new angle of the story.
