Harry Potter is a series of seven epic fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling. The series, named after the titular character, chronicles the adventures of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story arc concerns Harry's quest to overcome the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who aims to become immortal, conquer the wizarding world, subjugate non-magical people, and destroy all those who stand in his way, especially Harry Potter.

According to Freud we subconsciously pick our partners that look similar to our mums/dads (Mums if you're interested in females etc)

Maybe with certain things yea. My mom is a hard working lady. I would never marry someone who just likes to sit around watching tv all day and never cleans. I would rather **** an actual pig than deal with that **** .

I thought that most of Freud's theories turned out to be grade-A ******** .

It's not that they 'turned out to be' it's just he decided all of his theories with no actual proof or experimentation. A lot of people followed it until they looked at a bunch of people and realised that he was talking out of his arse.

But its true that people pick their partners because of similarities to their parents?

Its not 100% the case but i've seen it happen through out my life.

There's also something called "genetic sexual attraction" where human beings are more attracted to those who are genetically similar to them. In certain cases where siblings who were never raised together meet, they often find themselves strongly attracted to one another, presumably because of this. It's possible that genetic sexual attraction leads people to instinctively chose mates who are more likely to resemble family, including parents.

So it might be true that people choose partners because of similarities to parents - either because one's parents are seen as good role models for a healthy relationship, or due to sexual imprinting, or even genetic sexual attraction. But it's not 100% certain to my knowledge.

It's an interesting subject.

Typically, humans instinctively lose the ability to be sexually attracted to those near them during early childhood (which is why most people are not attracted to their parents or siblings). But some animals are known to experience "sexual imprinting" where they seek out mates that have similar traits to their parents. It's possible that this can happen to humans too, but from what I've read it's not well established.

The only one of his theories that, to my knowledge, is still used in mainstream Psychology is the Subconscious (Id, Ego, SuperEgo) but even that is used very loosely and uncommonly.

I always had a hard time believing this because I seem to be almost exclusively attracted to brunettes while most of the girls in my family are blonde.

they only discreddited him because he took a LOT of cocain.
My mom has a doctorate in psychology and they are pretty much like "he was right, even though he was wrong. people are finding out that a lot of his theories have merit, but he just had the wrong idea behind it"
