I've had some bad run ins with police, but this man is a Prince Among Men, and I hope his life goes well.

i spent the first 3 years of high school walking and riding a bike to school (it was a 3 mile trip back and forth) after my junior year i worked during the summer and bought the cheapest working car i could find which was a rice burner (does it make me a ricer even though i had no other choice?) which stuggled to reach 90mph but had a terribly loud muffler and the cop must have though i was speeding because of it, i bought a sticker that said i "know... i know... license and registration..." when the cop reached my door i already had my permit and registration which made him laugh, he left me off with a warning

apparently if you make a cop laugh youll have a better time
User avatar #343 to #319 - policexplain (07/31/2015) [-]
I speak from experience. If you have a sense of humor about the whole incident, you're much more likely to get off with a warning.

My dad was a cop growing up. He always taught me, just don't be a dick.

Every time I get pulled over, I just ask the guy how he's doing. Give him my info and chill. People forget that they are just doing their job. For every bad cop there are 300 good cops. Just need to treat them like human beings.

#721 to #236 - trailoftears (07/31/2015) [-]
Not OP but i might as well.

I got stopped by 2 cops (here police are always in at least pairs, never alone) in a nearby village where i've been stopped 2 times before in the last 2 weeks and all three times they asked me if i would agree to be tested for drugs. First two times i agreed because why not, i don't take anything illegal. Third time it was honestly just pissing me off and i was trying to be somewhere with my buddy in the car so i declined.

They would ask me why of course and i told them i was tested on this very road twice in the last two weeks and i'm annoyed that they would always test me for drugs just because of my age/appearance (Not sure how it is elsehere, but here testing for anything but alcohol isn't exactly standard procedure unless there are very clear signs of drug use).

Anyway he keept asking though i was giving him a very clear and acceptable answer, but he kept asking about 10 times so i was getting pissed of course and i moved my hands up to gesture while explaining for the 11th time, then he grabbed my arm, twisted it behind my back and pressed me against my car and asked if i wanted a warning or a fine for attempted assault. Lucikly even while pissed i was smart enough to not argue at that point and they let me go with a "warning".

Unforturnately i had no video proof or anything so i could only report it as complaint instead of actually sueing him.

But all of my other run-ins with the police have been either normal or very entertaining. Also i'm too lazy to spellcheck all of this so deal with it
#1018 to #721 - anon (08/01/2015) [-]
youre a faggot for not taking the test tho
User avatar #1019 to #1018 - trailoftears (08/01/2015) [-]
like i said, i was trying to be somewhere and those tests take at least 10 minutes. They're completely voluntary.

largesetofballs Biggest one for me was in my senior year of college, about a month before graduation. Up until then, worst I had was a speeding ticket. But anyways, one night me and some friends went to the bar to grab a drink and relax. W e ran into an old friend who was visiting for the weekend, and we ended up having a few extra drinks. So, we decided not to drive, for obvious reasons. Since it was only a mile back to my apartment, we were going to walk instead of paying out the ass for a taxi. Now, one of my buddies was a bit of a lightweight, and he was staggering quite a bit. So halfway back, a cop pulls up, says that we look intoxicated, and has each of us do a field sobriety test. We did poorly enough that another cruiser was called in so we could all be taken back to the station, and given breathalyzers. When all was said and done, we were each charged with public intoxication, had to serve a year on probation, go to AA, and pay about $3000 worth of fines. Thing is, if we had just driven, at worst the driver would have gotten ****** over, but the passengers would have been fine. And I'm not saying the cop needed to meet quota, but this was the 28th that everything happened on. Put a real sour taste in my mouth about cops after that.
User avatar #900 to #884 - daragon (07/31/2015) [-]
How the **** can you get arrested for public intoxication and get more tan a slap on the wrist? How uptight is I'm assuming your nationality here America?! In Denmark you can walk down the street chugging an entire bottle of *insert alcohol here* and no can do **** . Not that people generally drink in the streets
User avatar #980 to #900 - onlylettersyousay (08/01/2015) [-]
I'm American. Public intoxication is a misdemeanor, so as long as you have an otherwise clean record, and you're an asshole to the cop, you're not going to do jail time. Just fines, and probation. And AA in this case, since alcohol was involved.
#1035 to #980 - thatsdrfryetoyou ONLINE (08/01/2015) [-]
I recall the limits on public intoxication is not given by blood alcohol content but rather obnoxiousness

Like you can't wander down the street shouting obscenities or be like harassing people, but staggering on your adventure home shouldn't be any sort of criminal

That said, I suppose different states/cities might have different laws
User avatar #1044 to #1035 - onlylettersyousay (08/03/2015) [-]
The way it was read to us, staggering was enough to have you field tested, since they were worried about drunk people getting hit by cars. Too drunk to drive = too drunk to be on the sidewalk near cars. sorry for the delay, I was camping this weekend.

User avatar #967 to #900 - zestyfox (07/31/2015) [-]
Well, in his profile it does say he is from the USA, so unless he's lying, I'd say your assumption is correct. Also, daaamn. What are you supposed to do if you get drunk at a bar? Stay there the night until you're sober? Totally agree with you
User avatar #979 to #967 - onlylettersyousay (08/01/2015) [-]
DJstar is right, you're suppose to either have someone stay sober to drive you, or take a taxi. Except that taxi's rape you for fare, and being the sober one is no fun. It's a lot of ******** .
User avatar #968 to #967 - DJstar (07/31/2015) [-]
Like it says in his story, you're supposed to call a taxi. or have a designated driver on you. but i always found that public intoxication ******* stupid. because A) you can't go drinking by yourself. B)The guy drinking with you shall be void of fun since he can't drink. and C) If you don't have a car and you meet a really ****** cop, having a sober friend around will still not mean **** as those who are buzzed can still get hit with Intoxication. it's all ******* stupid.

then again America has always been retarded when it comes to drugs and what not.
#982 to #884 - largesetofballs (08/01/2015) [-]
Wow that cop is a dick, The cops that work for my township are terrible when i was in highschool i would get pulled over at least 3 times a month not for speeding or traffic violations mind you, but they would pull me over just to see if they could ticket me for something. Then again they did it to everybody so they could make their quota of the month.
User avatar #983 to #982 - onlylettersyousay (08/01/2015) [-]
I maintain that quotas were the worst thing that ever happened to police forces. It made it so finding fault took precedent over actually protecting and serving. I can't believe you were getting pulled over several times a month, thought, that's just ****** up.
#984 to #983 - largesetofballs (08/01/2015) [-]
Well my area had a lot of teenagers we smoked pot drank and partied I know a lot of the police in my area, im friends with them (somewhat) and they hate the quotas so much.
User avatar #985 to #984 - onlylettersyousay (08/01/2015) [-]
Still though, they should have some sort of probable cause other than "They're teens in the area" before pulling you over.
#987 to #985 - largesetofballs (08/01/2015) [-]
They dont need a cause to pull you over, but i know my rights i show them my id and i dont answer questions, after some time i ask if im being detained if not then i go on my merry way.

Some asshole found that in the articles of confederation there's a clause talking about a free inhabitant. You can live on the continent, free of government, with minimal/no rights, and minimal/no responsibilities. If you murder, you'll be hunted down- etc etc.
However
The articles of confederation were abolished what, 200 years ago now? Upon the signing of the constitution.
Now the country covers the continent and there's no "Free" land for such a person to exist.
Then there's the World Passport which is some other bullcrap that some 3rd world countries accept. Saying you're citizen of no country and want to wander the world in peace. You follow the most basic laws and get no rights.
User avatar #732 to #32 - inomgod (07/31/2015) [-]
I will tell you, I'd rather follow the laws and claim those citizen's rights. Otherwise they could hold you indefinitely as an enemy of the state. The Articles of Confederation is not the law of the land so.....
User avatar #680 to #593 - bobthecrop (07/31/2015) [-]
Well I can tell you here and now that the "Free inhabitant" thing she claimed, does not exempt her from any laws. A free inhabitant simply referred to someone who wasn't a slave, homeless, on welfare or a convict. In the articles of Confederation, a free inhabitant was simply allowed to freely travel between the several states of the United States, the "catch" being that the free inhabitant should follow the laws of the state they were in, not the state they were from... Y'know pretty basic stuff, all the stuff she is raving was some **** that she made up.

User avatar #1027 to #864 - bobthecrop (08/01/2015) [-]
And well, I don't know if this is obvious or not, but the articles of confederation are all superseded by the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution who both came after the articles of confederation, and basically made all laws and codes put forth by the articles of confederation moot.

Jokes on them, I'm quite visibly brown South Asian from a community where a small amount of South Asian kids think they're hot **** and are a significant contributor of gang violence, so my entire generation of brown kids got stereotyped . Side note: this is also probably one of the few cases where not being white is advantageous Side note 2: being white isn't as advantageous as it used to be when racism was wide-spread; the main advantage to being white now is statistical, because statistically speaking you're more likely to be born into a wealthier family that can afford you more opportunities Side note 3: racism, "privilege", and all that other bs is way more complicated than the essentially ignorant and basic points of view of the "SJW"s and the people on the other end of the spectrum we haven't named

Also, if you think about it, an insignificant number of police shootings, or arrests, or stoppages are actually brought to media attention. With the exception of the Brown case, many of them were genuinely controversial, like the guy who got shot while running away and it was caught on camera, and the strangling of Eric Garner arguably, Brown's case only got fame because at first it looked like he was innocent but only after the case started developing was it made clear he was a terrible posterboy for a genuine issue .

Point is, racism is a legit thing and should be taken seriously, but I'm not really that worried about being branded a racist. It's not as bad as the "SJW" crowd makes it out to be, but the majority of people aren't that extreme, and the media only shows us sensationalist trends so it seems worse than it is.

Actually, the AoC gave the states the right amount. But, that was replaced behind the Founding Fathers' backs by the constitution which transferred power to the Federal government. Then, the rest of the state's power were lost in the Civil War.

You are correct, all clauses within the articles of confederation became null and void with the ratification of the constitution, state constitutions with laws that came from the articles but conflicted with the us constitution were also nulled
