He is kinda a celebrity in SK.
It's kinda like Robert Downey jr coming in a Iron man costume on a convention, you think he's cool and all, but wait! He takes off his mask and you can see that it is the man in flesh. And you piss yourself.
She is South Korean. The black guy's name is Sam Ochiri.
He is a comedian / talent in Korean TV shows. From Ghana, he hopes to be a president of Ghana later. But for now he is earning massive amounts of money doing tv shows.
cool dude.
honestly at this point i dont give a **** if people confuse south koreans with chinese or japanese. promoting nationalism only makes racism and stereotyping worse.
if you weren't educated in Korea and know what the **** is up in here, gtfo. Nationalism in Korean education only brought ****** attitude towards the student. It gave us the impression that all Japanese people are bad, and all Americans are just bunch of money horny ********* , and Chinese are bunch of nasty communists who eat food while they **** .
sure, little bit of national pride is great, but in East Asia, each and every country is measuring their small ass dicks while America watches.
Well like I said, a bit is fine. But I didn't know Korea had that much going on.
Schools in the U.S. felt pretty neutral in most cases, though only a little bias over the U.S.'s actions in history and such.
The textbooks and what not never really demonized other nations or anything, though Besides Nazi Germany I guess. .
But what else can the U.S. do besides watch? It'd be kind of hypocritical to go and tell other countries to pull their heads out their ass.
Depends, if you are attractive white and tall you can get lots of pussy.
I am not white and mixed randoms so they'd probably lump me in with the island type foreigners.
i think asian people are just pretty racist in general. i'm half thai and live with that side of my family. my grandma is the sweetest person you'll ever meet. but bring up something about race and she'll take you on an unexpected journey to the most racist parts of her psyche. lol. the funny thing is you'd expect her to be really uncomfortable with black people right? wrong. she hates other asians. absolutely hates them. especially the chinese. if i had a dollar for every time she brought up the chinese in a negative manner, i'd probably not be living here anymore.
Generally the older generation is pretty xenophobic, but the younger generation is more or less indifferent, or they'll flock to you because they think English is cool and is usually a sign of intelligence. Or you run into the thugs and they'll just pick you out of the crowd because foreigners are easy targets. Especially you weebs on FJ.
My dad is white. He's been in Japan for more than 25 years. I often ask him if he feels Japanese are racist. He said the South of America is more racist, and Japanese are relatively nonjudgmental.
Really? I went there on exchange for six months, and I was stopped by the police twice, once because someone had done some vandalism nearby and they wanted to question me thinking I would have a connection, the other time it was simply the old "random" check thing. And that's just the police, some of the **** Japanese people say about you based on you being foreign (because they assume you don't know any japanese and won't understand) is insane. I especially liked the one about me surely being an aggressive asshole because I'm semi-tall and work out a little, and you know how white people "can't control their emotions". And that's just little white me, don't even get me started on the stories from my Black/Hispanic and especially Korean friends who I met there.
I've one the other hand never heard anything bad about South America, and I know loads of people who've gone there. I'm sure that doesn't mean it's not there though, they've got racism just the same as everywhere probably.
That's interesting. I'm half-Japanese American, born and raised in Japan, and I look like a 100% caucasian. But never in my life was I stopped by the police or got a random check.
Here's the thing. I'm not gonna lie, I did experience some unintentional racism, and I used to be angry about it. But the fact is, more than 98% of Japanese population is asian. If you don't look asian, you're someone that an average Japanese person will not encounter in their everyday life. I bet that you'll experience the same uncomfortableness if you live in a community where the population is 98% black. Same goes to Japanese people. If they lived somewhere with the population being 98% caucasian, I bet they'll experience some rudeness and funny looks. Same goes to blacks and hispanics. And honestly, I went to an international school in the Kansai area and met a lot of foreign students, but never heard/seen absolute racism towards them.
Now as I said before I'm half American. My mom is Japanese and my dad is from the State of Arkansas. Every year we visit there and I have to say, it's sometimes shocking to hear what people there say about my family. My sister looks very asian compared to me, and people sometimes ask rude questions about our ethnicity, race and be completely annoying. Though it's unintentional and they're probably not aware of how racist they sound, it does hurt my feelings, so I do get what you're saying. But obviously I've met a lot of great people there too, so I don't hate Arkansas actually. I just had some bad experience.
The thing is, I think every community shares the same percentage of assholes and good people. But what the original commentator said about Japan seems a little exaggerated to me. Some of the most racist people?? Really?
You don't hear cops killing innocent whites/blacks in Japan. You don't hear foreigners being rejected by stores in Japan. When hollywood actors visit Japan, they go crazy. White and black models are used for clothing advertisement because they sell more. When a foreigner is lost at a station, station staff immediately help them. At midnight when you go to Osaka, you see bunch of whites having a great time, being drunk, hanging out with Japanese dudes.
I'm not denying you had some bad experience, but in my opinion, calling Japan one of the most racist country seems kinda forced and too simplistic.
Oh yeah, I'm not disagreeing with the simplicity of the first statement, it just amazed me you had never experienced anything.
And while it's true I haven't heard of the police shooting anybody, they do target Chinese and Korean residents quite often, and these groups are much more likely to get harassed. Also, that picture is from a 2006 ad in Japan, and there are worse ones from same campaign.
But what strikes me the most is, that when I've talked to japanese people about it, they seem to think that their racism isn't "real racism" because it's only an US phenomenon, and that the prejudice they might harbor towards Chinese people, etc. is completely justified. To be clear, this is not all japanese people, of course, point is, racists are everywhere, and in Japan the lack of awareness might be what makes it seems so racist to some, and some of those "good people" might be acting racist simply because they don't realize it's hurting some people, I don't know for sure, that's a guess on my part, but there are some quite good research articles you can find on the topic, I'm sure Google scholar has some of them available.
I absolutely agree about the awareness issue. The biggest problem of Japan is not the unintentional casual racism itself, but how people don't seem to realize it.
I have mixed feelings about Korean/Chinese problems in Japan, because it goes both ways. Sometimes Koreans/Chinese face racism, but they often also receive special treatment. There are many Koreans/Chinese who come to Japan solely for the welfare they get, while they complain about Japan, causing some Japanese to absolute hate both countries. So I see both sides of argument.
But again, I think for the most part, what you're saying is correct. I just think the original commenter is exaggerating. I know he's probably a ********** , but come on. It's like saying America is one of the most dangerous places to live in. It's not true at all, and I see people upvoting him like “Yeah that's true!!”. It's really not that bad in my opinion.
Wow that's crazy bro. I was in Japan for most of my life and guess what, I've never really seen any extreme racism in Japan too! And when I visit Arkansas, I sometimes encounter someone who's really rude towards my sister, who looks very asian compared to me. He or she will ask insensitive question about our ethnicities. But you've never seen racism there, right?
It's almost as if we all have different experiences in different places, isn't it?
My dad had better experiences in Japan. That's it. I wrote my dad's opinion. I didn't say it's a fact. It's his opinion.
If I wrote something like “Americans are some of the most violent people in the world” people would freak out in the comment section. Because it's simply not based on facts.
Japanese do not hate the white. I used my dad's opinion as an example. And when I asked him whether or not he experienced racism, he said he saw more racism in Arkansas towards my mom then he saw racism in Japan. It's just one man's opinion though. At least I clarified that it's my dad's opinion and didn't write it down like the absolute truth. And I personally experienced casual racism in both places and met a lot of great people too. Plus, my mother was in Arkansas as a student from Japan like 20 years ago, and I'm sure a lot of things have changed since then. My dad might even change his opinion if he went back to Arkansas for a long period of time.
Just because my dad saw some racism in Arkansas does not make Arkansas one of the most racist places, and just because you don't see racism happening, it also doesn't mean Arkansas is a completely racism-free environment.
I'm sure there are a lot of whites who are from Arkansas living in Japan and saying Japan is much more racist, just like how there probably is a lot of people who say the other way around.
I'm not saying you think Japanese are racist. I used my dad's opinion on racism in Japan to debunk the original comment. And then you automatically assumed my dad never visited the South, and then when I told you he's actually from Arkansas, you told me there's no racism there.
So I told you that I've personally experienced casual racism there, and brought up the racism in Japan issue to explain how racism can happen anywhere and why I used my dad's example to debunk the original comment.
I think it's mainly just the older generation, similar to any country now, but a lot of the younger generation is really becoming more open. But that's just a guess and i have no idea if its true or not. Also holy **** that cosplay.
I would be scared too, Tyrone comes out of nowhere wielding the super power of the glock and he goes bang bang and there goes my money along with my bike and wife
i don't know much about japanese or korean, but my partner is chinese and he informs me that chinese people especially coming from mainland china are pretty racist. There's an overall assumption of white people being stupid, but to add because of lightness of skin kind of being historically significant to decipher working people from royals, they don't really like darker people, or they're just not as beautiful. And for real his mother doesn't understand middle eastern politics at all and is just very scared of all of them. At least she's non-violent about it though. Ultimately though he says people are worse to each other just depending on what part of china they come from.
